Whisky Wednesday Reviews Abasolo Mexican – Mexican Whisky News

Destilería Y Bodega Abasolo!
Welcome one and all to Mexican whisky!
Created using a 4,000 year old process called Nixtamalization. This 100% corn whisky is double distilled in traditional copper pots, then aged in a combination of fresh and refill American oak casks. A tribute to the heirloom nature of corn in and from Mexico, delivering its presence and rather lovely taste to the world stage! Also! Nixta Corn Liqueur! The same process and mash as the whisky, but with a lower ABV and has the addition of a clarified corn mash. Sweet, indulgent and just the right amount of savoury alcohol to contrast the sweetness! Cheers!
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 350: Mortlach 12 Year Old 2007 Carn Mor – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 350: Mortlach 12 Year Old 2007 Carn Mor
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, was able to able to taste this Mortlach from Morrison & Mackay in their Carn Mor Strictly Limited series thanks to his buddy Manny. It’s a vatting of two very active sherry casks, that yielded some 700 bottles, albeit at 47.5%, which Mark does not believe to be cask strength. It was not love at first sight, but eventually the malt grew on him.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Caol Ila Distillers Edition – Scotch Whisky News

Situated on the northern coast of Islay, Caol Ila is a favourite. It combines the powerful smoke of the island with a welcoming and very characterful sweet creaminess. What makes this Distiller’s Edition slightly different: an extra few months in Moscatel wine casks, making that creaminess ever more indulgent and allowing the sweetness to be more balanced with the smoke. Avoiding the herbal route that Islay whiskies can usually wander down, this is elegant, bold and has a sweetness that is approachable for those who both love and are perhaps avoidant of Islay whiskies most of the time
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 349: Mortlach 20 Year Old 1978 Rare Malts Selection – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 349: Mortlach 20 Year Old 1978 Rare Malts Selection
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, got hold a golden oldie from the Rare Malts Selection. This Mortlach has by now been in the bottle longer than it ever spent in the cask. Distilled in 1978 and bottled after 20 years at a whopping 62.2% ABV. You’ll have a very hard time getting hold of this bottle now – or need very deep pockets – but Mark got his hands on it via a raffle and poured it as the finale in his online masterclass last October.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 348: Mortlach 16 Year Old – old versus new – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 348: Mortlach 16 Year Old – old versus new
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, puts the classic Mortlach 16 years old from the much acclaimed Fauna & Flora series against the more modern version, today’s 16 years old Distiller’s Dram. That’s going to be quite the party, we should think.
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 347: Mortlach 14 Year Old Alexander’s Way – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 347: Mortlach 14 Year Old Alexander’s Way
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries the Beast of Dufftown. Originally the 14 years old Alexander’s Way – which refers to the fiendishly complicated process of 2.81x distilled that creates that typical umami spirit that Mortlach is known for – was only available as a travel retail expression, but today you can find it quite easily.
