Rare 50 Year Old Whisky On Sale at Oddbins – Scotch Whisky News

Rare 50 year old whisky on sale at Oddbins

UK wine merchant and malt specialist Oddbins is pleased to announce a unique opportunity to purchase an extremely rare and desirable bottle of whisky. The 50 year old Auchentoshan single malt whisky, distilled in April 1957 and bottled in July 2007, is one of the last remaining bottles on sale anywhere in the UK.

Originally priced at £2850, the stylishly packaged bottle is now available from Oddbins for only £2550.

There were only ever 144 bottles of the 1957 malt released, with most being sold to collectors abroad. It comes with its own hand-numbered book telling the story behind the bottling. Built in 1825, Auchentoshan (pronounced “och-n-tosh-n”) is one of the last distilleries in Scotland to retain the tradition of distilling three times, rather than the now industry standard of double distillation. The result of this process is a lighter, sweeter, more fragrant whisky. However, after 50 years in barrels previously used for Oloroso sherry, the Auchentoshan 1957 is deep bronze in colour and has flavours of treacle and butterscotch.

Situated near Glasgow, the distillery is one of only a few left in Scotland’s Lowlands – once the country’s main region for whisky production – adding to the appeal of the 1957 release.

Anyone interested in purchasing this hard to find malt should contact Oddbins by email at with their name and a daytime and/or evening contact number.  Due to EU regulations, Oddbins are not able to organise international delivery but we can offer free of charge delivery of the Auchentoshan 1957 to anywhere in the UK via our home delivery service.

Delicate liquorice as well as raisins and sultanas. Slight hint of vanilla and tropical fruits; bananas and mangos. A waft of peat smoke in the background.

WhiskyCast Publishes Episode #305 – American Whiskey News

Brown-Forman’s cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky has an impact on whiskies all over the world. The cooperage makes all of the barrels for Jack Daniel’s, Woodford Reserve, and Brown-Forman’s other whiskies…and of course, those barrels are later sent to distilleries in Scotland and around the world for aging whiskies. It’s also one of the few cooperages open for tours, and general manager Greg Roshkowski will give us a tour in this episode. In the news, the Christchurch earthquake and its connection to the whisky world, plenty of awards, and more new whiskies!

Australian Whisky Stones – Scotch Whisky Accessory

Submitted by Phil Adobewan…

Whiskey and Whisky lovers all over the country have been trying to get hold of Traditional Steartite Whiskey Stones for years (I know I am one of them) and they are HARD to find. They are a great thing for Australian drinking conditions, cooling the drink without ice.  They don’t chill like ice, that is actually a very bad thing to do, it dilutes and pollutes!

Whiskey stones gently keep your bevvy at ‘cellar temperature’ and are reusable and will not affect the drink in any other way, they are chemically inert and non-toxic.  (They are made from the same stone that talcum powder is made from.

Lark Australian Whisky Soon To Be Available In The United States – Australian Whisky News

Good morning to all!
I am writing to you today because over the past several months, each of you has contacted Lark Distillery in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia about the availability of their wonderful whiskies here in the United States.

Marsalle Company in Franklin Park, IL has been appointed the U.S. importer for Lark Whiskies, and we have been working hard in preparation for their arrival in this country.

I am very pleased to tell you that Lark Whiskies will be arriving here in the U.S. in late March, with the formal launch planned for April. We will be launching three different whiskies here in the U.S.:

Lark Single Cask Single Malt Whisky   43% abv
Lark Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky   58% abv
Lark Distiller’s Selection Single Cask Release   46% abv

We are in the process of appointing distributors in a number of states across the country. These distributors will be handling sales and distribution of Lark Whiskies in their appointed markets.

We expect to launch Lark Whiskies initially in California, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Massachusetts, with additional markets to follow as supply will allow.

The initial quantities are limited, as you might expect with high quality, hand-crafted whiskies such as Lark. For this reason we will be rolling these products out on an allocated basis to make sure we can meet expected demand in the marketplace.

The good news here is that we expect the available supply of Lark Whiskies to increase sufficiently to meet the market’s needs by summer/fall of this year.

We are very excited about the upcoming launch, and we appreciate your enthusiasm for these award-winning whiskies. If you would like further details regarding launch timing, distributor information in your state, or if you have any other questions for us, please feel free to contact me. My contact information is listed below.

Thanks for your interest in Lark Whiskies – your patience is about to be rewarded!
