Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 486: D.R.K.N.S.S. Batch 2 Asta Morris – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 486: D.R.K.N.S.S. Batch 2 Asta Morris

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, tries something sinister… Last year he tasted the first batch of D.R.K.N.S.S. – or Darkness for short – from Asta Morris. That was a sherry-aged Lowlander, 465 bottles strong. However, this second batch, which has just been released, is a Highland malt. Obviously also matured on a sherry cask and the release this time is no less than 601 bottles strong.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews The Lakes Whiskymaker’s #6 – English Whisky News

The Lakes Whiskymaker’s #6, 52%

https://youtu.be/3E_xx4i7l1o

Established in 2011, The Lakes Distillery has really pushed itseld to the forefront of English whisky. Releasing a collection of well loved blends and limited release single malts, this is The Whiskymaker’s release #6. A vatting of ex-Oloroso, Pedro Ximinez and red wine casks from some European country (a little more clarity would’ve been great there.) Beyond that, it is honestly one of the best single malts I’ve tried this year, even if it does have some stiff competition from very well established Scottish brands.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Rabbit Hole Heigold Bourbon – American Whiskey News

https://youtu.be/AKC3lU8cgRg

Welcome back to the world of bourbon! It feels like so long since something new appeared in the UK, luckily that wait is over…for me, anyway.

Rabbit Hole is the concept of Kaveh Zamanian, a former clinical psychologist, now whisky maker! Here we have the Heigold, a Kentucky straight bourbon with 70% corn, 25% malted German rye and 5% malted barley. The name Heigold and the inclusion of German rye specifically is a reference to a German rock cutter who moved to Kentucky in the 1800’s. Lacking in the tropical fruit area, but very strong in the heavy spice and butterscotch flavour profile, Rabbit Hole Heigold is a relatively affordable and powerful style of bourbon that stands up on its own and probably in your favourite cocktail.
