Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 213: Allt-A-Bhainne 24 Year Old 1993 for MMM

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, bottles his next MMM single cask. For the third release in their Antarctica Series, photographer Ilse Everaert allowed them to use a magnificent photo of Paradise Bay. But with these hot temperatures, they also wanted to offer something of a summery whisky. In their (not so) humble opinion, they succeeded. Please meet tehir 24 years old Allt-A-Bhainne, a malt of which owner Chivas does not even have an official release. But Mark & Manny thought of you. You’re welcome. Remember: only 50 bottles as Mark & Manny are wont to do.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Kilchoman – Scotch Whisky News

PHIL

https://youtu.be/zexa2I2qm_s

A beloved little distillery on Islay that overcame a lot of odds to be considered one of the finest whiskies produced, in a region with so much intimidating competition, most of us would shy away. Producing less than 100,000 liters a year, Kilchoman have fought and worked their way through the ranks of the whisky hierarchy. Starting out in 2005 and already having huge success with the quality of their new make spirit, we now see them thirteen years later. Whisky is hitting the double digit figures and demand is increasing more and more. One of only 238 bottles produced, this single cask selection, bottled by The Whisky Shop really does show off the depth to the spirit produced at Kilchoman. Full bodied, spicy, well balance and a change in flavour that is reminiscent of some of the best Islay whiskies I’ve ever had. Switching from BBQ smoke and peat into creamy white chocolate with hazelnuts and a wonderful hit of salt as well. A true contender for whisky of the year!

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 212: Yamazaki Limited Edition 2017

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, tastes the coveted Yamazaki Limited Edition 2017. It is Suntory’s yearly returning NAS-whisky that showcases what Japanese whisky is all about. Beautifully layered, mouth coating and flavorsome, it is a liquid delight. Tasting it in the ancient French city of Avignon only adds to the experience.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Glen Scotia The Whisky Shop Exclusive – Scotch Whisky News

Glen-Scotia

Two days late (WI kept this back and published a week later) but have we got something for you lot! Not only have we got the opportunity to shoot in a rather amazing cathedral of booze that is, The Whisky Shop Manchester but we can also take a look at one of their new exclusive from the formidable, Glen Scotia. A single cask expression from a lone ex-bourbon barrel, it packs spice and sweetness with a lovely coating of ashy and sooty peat towards the finish. A huge wave of clementines and orange skin on the nose, creamy almost butterscotch feel to the palate and a bitter and smoky finish that reveals more and more about the slight peat kicking around towards the end. A real stunner and now a proud part of my whisky collection, I mean, it’s Glen Scotia, what can go wrong? Cheers!

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 211: Taketsuru Pure Malt

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, makes his first mizuwari! The famous whisky concerns Suntory and Nikka have taken their aged malts off the shelves and replaced them with NAS releases. Nikka no longer has its Taketsuru Pure Malt 12 Year Old, but a NAS-version now. This blended malt is made with mostly Miyagikyo, but a bit of Yoichi went in there as well. The result is a light malt that works wonderfully in a refreshing mizuwari.
