Well, it was going to happen eventually. I think I’ve found something that’s duller than television on a Saturday night. Firstly though, i would like to make clear that some people will enjoy this whisky, and that’s fine. However, personally, I think this is one of the finest examples of bland and forgettable that can be envisaged in the spirits world. Imagine going to all the effort of creating spirit, germinating, grinding, fermenting and distilling – ageing for a minimum of twelve years and then…taking away any key distillery character by filtering, colouring and bottling at 40%. This isn’t in anyway a good example of what Fettercairn can do, yes, I’ve never personally got on with it as a single malt but in the warehouse, there must be some incredible stock…statistically. What a disappointment.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 225: Glen Keith 22 Year Old 1995 Lads of Lobland
Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, sips an atypical Glen Keith. This is the 8th and final release in the Lads of Lobland series by the Belgian Bring Your Own Bottle Club – or BYOB-C (‘biopsy’). It was bottled in collaboration with Liquid Art. They chose a Speysider: Glen Keith 1995, matured for no less than 22 years.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 224: Arran Rum Cask Finish for Belgium
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a small batch Arran. At the end of 2017 Arran launched a small batch of 900 bottles, exclusively for Belgium, of an Arran 2007 Rum Cask Finish. Cut to 46%, this is a surprisingly easy-going malt, which – if you are looking for complexity – is a bit of a let-down. If, however, you are looking for a sweet and soft after dinner dram, then this is for you.
What happens when you launch a product that blends Scottish single malts and English malt whisky together? Steel Bonnets. The Lakes Distillery is my most local whisky distillery – I’ve been a big fan of The One, even with its sweeter vibe but this has peaked my attention for a while. A NCF and Natural Colour whisky bottled at a higher strength with a flavour palate of rich butterscotch and toffee notes but back by decent spice notes with a hint of smoke running through it. A genuine delight – check it out and as always, comment! Cheers!
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 223: Mortlach’s new range – 12, 16, 20 Year Old
Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, sheds his light on the revamped Mortlach Range. For the longest time, Mortlach 16 Year Old in the Fauna & Flora series was the only one available. But in 2015 it was replaced by a new range in 50cl bottles… at prohibitive prices. The result: the bottles gathered dust on the shelves. Diageo had to rethink their Beast of Dufftown strategy and came up with a new range with a price tag that mortal man can again afford. Hurray! Let’s have a look at those three new releases!
