Whiskies associated with films, film stars and celebrities in general tend not to go down well – the only lasting example is the GoT Lagavulin, which was genuinely nice but in all honesty it’s hard to get Lagavulin wrong.

This thing has proven so popular that even beyond the stretch of Kingsman 2, this whisky is still around and people are still buying it because of the quality. Selected from the top floors of OF’s warehouses and batched at a higher proof, Statesman has cut it’s own groove into this Bourbon world as product that actually ended up being better than the film it was associated with. At last! I can finally talk about the wonderful Bourbon that is, Old Forester. I’m no stranger to some of Kentucky’s finest; this stuff is up there with some of the best and with a price tag that doesn’t break the wallet. 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley provide a flavour profile that’s drier but still very welcoming with juicy fruits, fruit cordials and nutty, spicy rye. Heavily pleated and fresh as a daisy, in comparison to its Scottish rivals, this distillery is one of my favourites in Japan.  Heavy, oily and layered with familiar flavours for West Coast Scotch fans, it should be on everyone’s radar to try! Cheers!
