Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 264: Caol Ila 10 Year Old Feis Ile 2018
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, text. Caol Ila released a 22 years old malt for Feis Ile 2019, but despite Mark’s shout out on social media, he has not (yet) been able to get one. Last year, his buddy Manny was on Islay, so he knew that the Feis Ile 2018 release – a Caol Ila 10 Year Old – would find its way to Ghent. It is a vatting of 8 casks: Refill American Oak Hogsheads and Rejuvenated European Oak Butts – whatever that means. Pierrick Guillaume, the French Master Distiller, selected the cask himself.
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 263: Port Charlotte 16 Year Old 2001 The Heretic
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries the Heretic! This was the Feis Ile 2018 release from Port Charlotte (from the Bruichladdich Distillery, of course) and is, according to the label ‘the last of the first’, meaning the last casks of the first distillate. It’s a vatting of American oak, rum casks and even French wine casks.
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 262: Lagavulin 18 Year Old Feis Ile 2018
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries another Lagavulin. In 2018 they launched for the third festival an a row an 18 Year Old. Mark admits that those Feis Ile releases, the distillery exclusives and mostly the Jazz Festival bottlings are very much to his liking. It is a vatting of refill hogsheads and sherry butts.
Old Pulteney haven’t ever been known for big sherry cask whiskies, certainly not in my years experience with the brand. This is where single casks expressions really come into their own, showing you the side of a brand that you may not be fully aware of. This thing reminds me of a baby Bunnahabhain/GlenDronach hybrid, but with a lot more punch and a finish that is truly extraordinary. Needless to say, i bought one…welcome to the club! Cheers!

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 261: Kilchoman 11 Year Old 2007 Feis Ile 2018
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tastes Kilchoman! For Feis Ile 2018 Kilchoman vatted 4 bourbon barrels, which resulted in a limited release of 744 bottles which sold out in a flash. Thanks to the Whisky Amigos (Belgian friends) Mark was able to get one. It was the oldest Kilchoman on the market with its 11 years old age. Distilled in March 2007 and bottled in May 2018. Let’s get to it!
Welcome to this weeks episode of the show,in which I’ll be reviewing some new-ish releases from Mossburn Distillers.

The Lowlands, with the exception of Ailsa Bay, single malts from this region have never really thrilled me. It’s not fun to admit but it’s true. Enter, Kingsbarn! Tried their new-make spirit a few years ago and loved it! Now it’s time for that first official single malt bottling and, ladies and gentleman; it’s delicious! Matured in 90% 1st refill Bourbon Casks and 10% STR Wine Barriques, it’s loaded with tropical summer flavours, along with being balanced, delicate and slightly drying. Cheers!
