Independent distiller Eden Mill is bringing its range of  single malts to the world-famous Old Course Hotel in St Andrews through an immersive experience.

Located just seven minutes from the site of their soon-to-be completed distillery, ‘Eden Mill at the Old Course Hotel’ is now open to the public offering a distinct experience – the Eden Mill Single Malt Flight.

Situated on the fourth floor of the iconic hotel, the whisky experience is hosted in a private tasting room opposite the Road Hole Bar that looks across the 17th green on the Old Course. Each session includes a welcome drink, an educational showcase of each spirit and a chance to sample the range. Expert brand experience ambassadors will also provide spirits fans with an overview of the Eden Mill story and plans for the new distillery opening just along the road.

EDEN MILL SINGLE MALT FLIGHT | (£40)

Built for whisky lovers, the Single Malt Flight introduces Eden Mill’s premium whiskies, journeying through four drams from bourbon maturation and sherry finishes to an elusive ‘mystery dram’! The experience explores Eden Mill’s core range of whiskies, showcasing the brand’s signature Lowland spirit style and masterful use of cask maturation.

The journey begins with a whisky highball using The Guard Bridge Blended Malt Scotch and ginger ale – a classic serve to whet the palate and introduce guests to the Eden Mill house style. The tasting includes the Bourbon and Sherry flagship Single Malts, an unreleased mystery dram from the distiller’s blending room, and finally the 2023 Art of St Andrews hero expression – matured in ex-Cognac casks. Throughout the experience, guests learn about each whiskies’ maturation style, cask influence and flavour profile – with the chance to compare and contrast their thoughts with other whisky aficionados in the room.

Commenting on the partnership, Hannah Ingram, Head of Marketing at Eden Mill, said: “St Andrews is our home – and we’re immensely proud of where we’re from – so it made absolute sense to collaborate with the iconic Old Course Hotel, a world-renowned destination for luxury experiences.

“We want to provide an unforgettable showcase for locals and visitors alike, educating gin lovers on locally-sourced botanicals and how to serve their favourite gin, as well as presenting our wonderful range of single malts to whisky fans. The experience will tell the Eden Mill story so far, and announce our very exciting plans for the future!”

The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, is a prestigious AA five star resort that overlooks the famous Old Course and West Sands Beach in St Andrews. ‘Eden Mill at the Old Course Hotel’ is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, 12 – 5pm.

Tickets for the whisky experiences are available on the Eden Mill website: www.edenmill.com

Speyside single malt also backs Paul Lawrie’s Tartan Pro Tour

Edward Kitson, Championship Director, The Senior Open; Jamie Stewart, Commercial Director, LMB-UK

Glen Moray single malt Scotch whisky is taking a swing at the world of golf after being unveiled today (30th May) as the new Official Whisky of the Senior Open presented by Rolex.

The three-year, six figure partnership will commence this summer when the prestigious championship – Europe’s only senior major – returns to the home of golf in Scotland and the spectacular setting of Carnoustie Golf Links.

Taking place from 25th to 28th July, an expected crowd of 35,000 spectators can look forward to visiting Glen Moray’s whisky bar in the Championship Village – alongside four days of world class play and a rare opportunity to see some of golf’s greatest legends in action.

The Glen Moray team – including Global Brand Ambassador Iain Allan – will be on hand with some first-class hospitality, serving up a taste of the distillery’s famously smooth and fruity single malt whiskies, plus a specially commissioned cocktail designed to refresh fans over the four-day event.

In additional news, Glen Moray has also been confirmed as the official whisky of the Tartan Pro Tour: the Scottish-based development tour for male and female golfers, founded by golfing icon and The Open Champion in 1999, Paul Lawrie.

Teeing off in May 2024 and touring 13 Scottish golf courses during the year, Glen Moray will be on hand with the drams at each – as well as being title sponsor of the brand’s ‘home leg’ event at the Nairn Dunbar Golf Course near the distillery.

Crafted in the historic town of Elgin since 1897 and now one of the UK’s top selling single malt whiskies, Glen Moray will be supporting its new golf partnerships with a marketing campaign that explores the deep Scottish roots shared by whisky and golf, and the joys of a ‘Classic Round’ – both of golf and of whisky. This will be rolled out across advertising, digital and PR channels as well as a range of trade activations around the UK.

Jamie Stewart, UK Commercial Director of Glen Moray parent company LMB-UK said: ‘We are thrilled to be joining the Senior Open Championship and an event that is renowned for its world class golf and convivial atmosphere, set within some of the UK’s most famous courses. Golf and Scotch whisky have so much in common, from our reputation as Scottish icons around the world to our shared ability to gather friends together to enjoy good times. As the Championship’s official whisky, we are very much looking forward to celebrating these shared values, and to introducing our single malt whiskies and the story of Glen Moray to golf fans. We’re also very proud to be backing Scottish golfers at the early stage of their career through our partnership with Paul Lawrie’s Tartan Pro Tour.’

Edward Kitson, Championship Director at the European Tour Group, added: ‘The Senior Open presented by Rolex is where legends of the game test their skills on some of the finest courses in the UK. It’s only fitting that a legendary Scottish whisky will also be there. We look forward to working together to showcase their products to the thousands of fans at Carnoustie, who can sample Glen Moray’s single malt whiskies when taking a break from watching the on-course action.’

Paul Lawrie also welcomed Glen Moray to the Tartan Pro Tour’s stable of sponsors. He said: ‘It’s great to have the support of Glen Moray as an event sponsor. We look forward to the Tour’s first visit to Nairn Dunbar Golf Club on the Moray Firth, close to the Glen Moray Distillery. The Tartan Pro Tour is becoming ever more popular for players aspiring to the highest levels of professional golf and having a global brand like Glen Moray backing the sport – through both the Tartan Pro Tour and the Senior Open – is great news.’

The Senior Open presented by Rolex is jointly owned by the European Tour Group and The R&A and is staged each July at one of the UK’s most iconic golf courses.

Crafted in the heart of Speyside since 1897, Glen Moray’s smooth, fruity single malt whisky embodies the classic Speyside style. It has been made on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin for over 125 years using skills passed down through the generations and a process that includes double distillation in copper stills and careful ageing in traditional warehouses. The distillery’s craftsmen are experts in maturing and marrying many different types of casks, creating the array of flavours which inspire Glen Moray’s extensive range. Inclusive and inviting, Glen Moray is perfect for enjoying on its own and in cocktails, by whisky aficionados and new whisky fans alike.

The Senior Open Presented by Rolex

The Senior Open Presented by Rolex will take place at Carnoustie Golf Links for the first time since 2016 as the iconic Scottish venue hosts Europe’s only Senior Major Championship from July 25-28, 2024.

Carnoustie previously hosted the Championship in 2010 and 2016, with Germany’s Bernhard Langer triumphing first, then England’s Paul Broadhurst winning his maiden Senior Major most recently.

The 2023 Senior Open saw Germany’s Alex Čejka win the Senior Claret Jug for the first time, prevailing over Pádraig Harrington in a play-off.

Langer became the first golfer in history to win The Senior Open four times with his victory in 2019 at Royal Lytham & St Annes – moving ahead of Gary Player and Tom Watson with whom he previously shared three wins. The German also broke his own record of Senior Major Championship victories – securing his 11th at Royal Lytham & St Annes and since adding a 12th at the 2023 U.S. Senior Open.

Čejka’s victory in 2023 was the seventh consecutive European success in this event, adding to Langer’s victories in 2017 and 2019, Broadhurst’s win in 2016, Miguel Angel Jiménez’s triumph in 2018 on the Old Course at St Andrews, Stephen Dodd’s victory at Sunningdale in 2021 and Darren Clarke’s success at Gleneagles in 2022.

The Senior Open was introduced in 1987 at Turnberry in Ayrshire when Neil Coles, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the European Tour group, won the inaugural title. This led, two years later, to the formal inception of what is now the Legends Tour.

Beam Suntory and Supercritical Solutions Celebrate a World-First in Journey to Net Zero Hydrogen Distilling for Whisky Production – Scotch Whisky News

Beam Suntory and Supercritical Solutions Celebrate a World-First in Journey to Net Zero Hydrogen Distilling for Whisky Production

Successful direct-fired distillation trial using 100% hydrogen for whisky production is a world-first achievement.
The milestone, achieved at the Yamazaki distillery’s pilot distillery in Japan, marks positive progress for the ‘WhiskHy’ project, funded by UK government’s Green Distilleries Competition.

Scotland, UK (April 2024) – Beam Suntory and Supercritical Solutions Ltd (Supercritical) are celebrating a milestone moment for the WhiskHy project as trials prove that hydrogen is a viable fuel source for direct-fired distillation. The successful trial is a world-first achievement in hydrogen distilling for whisky production .

In 2021, the WhiskHy project received green innovation project funding from the UK government to carry out feasibility studies for green hydrogen-based decarbonisation technology at Beam Suntory-owned distilleries. The funding was awarded through the Green Distilleries competition, which forms part of the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero’s ‘Net Zero Innovation Portfolio’, with the project having made considerable advancements towards zero emission distilling at an industrial scale.

As part of its Proof Positive sustainability strategy, Beam Suntory is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its entire value chain by 2040, and pursuing innovative green technology across its global distilleries to do so. This ambition provided a unique opportunity to partner with Suntory’s Yamazaki team in Japan to carry out the trial at its pilot distillery, which is specifically designed to carry out such innovative research and development.

The world-first successful trial used 100% hydrogen to directly heat the still . A part of the distilled spirit will be casked in Scotland at the Glen Garioch distillery, where it will be quality assessed as it matures. The Glen Garioch distillery recently underwent a £6 million renovation project to reinstate traditional malting floors and a direct-fired still.

‘Direct-firing’ is regarded as a traditional method of distilling, by which a direct flame is used rather than an indirect heating by steam coils. This process is key to the WhiskHy project, as it offers the potential to cut carbon emissions by up to 100% if using green hydrogen, thus rendering the process net-zero. Through associated maillard reactions, direct-firing can also enhance spirit quality and depth of character, as evidenced at the Glen Garioch distillery.

As part of Project WhiskHy, Supercritical has advanced its proprietary technology, the first ever ultra-efficient, high pressure electrolyser, which would enable a distillery to produce and store hydrogen on site, powered by local renewable power sources. The development of Supercritical’s electrolyser recently reached a milestone of its own: the establishment of its green hydrogen demonstrator in northeast England, an essential step in the journey to commercial scale deployment.

Matt Bird, CEO, Supercritical comments: “The WhiskHy project at Beam Suntory’s renowned Yamazaki distillery has been a testament to the engineering prowess and dedication to net zero innovation within the group. This landmark trial not only marks a significant stride in hydrogen fuel advancement but also sets the stage for ongoing progress and collaboration. Our partnership with Beam Suntory is poised to remove the premium of green hydrogen, leveraging our cutting-edge technology for a sustainable future.”

Alistair Longwell, Head of Distilling and Environment, Beam Suntory, adds: “As a company, we are intent on pushing the boundaries of green innovation. We have an ambition to achieve net zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2040, and it is through unique collaborative projects such as WhiskHy that we will get there. We are thrilled to have achieved this new milestone and look forward to continuing our progress with Supercritical as we pursue a more sustainable, resilient future for our industry.”

Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, comments: “After visiting Supercritical last year and seeing their exciting technologies first-hand, I am thrilled they have reached this new milestone alongside Beam Suntory – with the potential to kickstart a new clean green whisky industry. By backing the project with £2.9 million in government support, we are helping businesses seize the opportunities of hydrogen and cut their emissions on the journey to net zero.”

Katsunori Kurihara, COO of Spirits, Wine Development & Production Division at Suntory Spirits Ltd, adds: “Ever since we began whisky making at the Yamazaki Distillery in 1923, we have been striving to craft with a relentless pursuit of perfection and persistent innovation. The whisky business embodies Suntory’s philosophy ‘to inspire the brilliance of life by creating rich experiences for people, in harmony with nature’. To coexist with people and nature, and to aspire to produce Suntory Whisky beloved by all, we will work towards a net zero goal while maintaining the quality craftsmanship of our whiskies.”

Laphroaig Scotch Whisky Introduces Càirdeas 2024 Cask Favourites – Islay Scotch Whisky News

Laphroaig Scotch Whisky Introduces Càirdeas 2024 Cask Favourites

We are pleased to announce the introduction of the new Laphroaig Càirdeas 2024 Cask Favourites Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Available in US as of late June, the bottle is offered at 52.4% ABV and at a suggested retail price of $109.99 (700ml). Available on ReserveBar, preorder is live now.

For more than two centuries, Laphroaig’s master craftsmen have worked to shape this richly flavored Scotch whisky. This 10-year-old Càirdeas edition was created by Master Blender, Calum Fraser, to pay homage to the first Càirdeas offerings that made Laphroaig what it is today – a rich and distinct Scotch whisky.

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2024 Cask Favourites celebrates 30 years of friendship, a ten-year-old expression that pays homage to Laphroaig’s well-loved releases: 2019’s Triple Wood and 2021’s PX Cask. Married together by Master Blender, Calum Fraser, as an aged statement celebrating the very first Càirdeas expressions.

Developed in ex-Bourbon barrels, this single malt combines the distinctive peaty flavor of Laphroaig with notes of freshly ground ginger, charred citrus fruits, and a whisper of bonfire notes embers through on the finish. The celebratory malt is bottled at a fixed strength for a memorable experience to share with friends.

Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries that still uses a traditional malting floor, and this is where Laphroaig’s Càirdeas malt starts its life. It begins as malted barley, gently dried and infused by the thick smoke from our signature cold smoking process in our ancient peat kilns. It’s then mixed with the crisp waters of the Kilbride Stream, one of Islay’s unique natural features, before being distilled. The spirit is matured twice — first in over-charred first and second-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and quarter casks before being finished in PX casks, adding fruity sweetness, resulting in a whisky of greater depth, designed to be savored.

TASTING NOTES

Bold, pale gold in color.

Packed with quintessential smoky peat and charred citrus fruit aromas.

With notes of caramelized sugar and cinnamon dominate the nose.

Followed by delicate notes of hazelnut and honey sweetness.

A tannic oak paired with earthy peat and subtle sea-salt bring the whisky to a finish.

Laphroaig Scotch whisky has been dividing opinions since 1845, when Donald and Alexander Johnston first opened their distillery on the Isle of Islay. Its unique smoky taste can be attributed to the island’s peat. Rich in moss, lichen and heather, this peat is unlike anything found on the Scottish mainland. Good whisky needs good water, and the distillery has its own supply in the Kilbride stream which flows through the peat beds. It also needs experience, and with the wisdom of two centuries of craftsmanship, each expression of Laphroaig is a true masterpiece.

Glenmorangie Takes its Single-Estate Whisky’s Creamy Style to New Heights – Scotch Whisky News

Glenmorangie takes its single-estate whisky’s creamy style to new heights

Field-to-glass series’ fourth release bottles the taste of the Distillery’s Highland homeland

Astonishingly rich and silky, the latest release of Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate takes the single-estate whisky’s creamy character to new heights of deliciousness. Crafted from barley grown in just eight fields on Glenmorangie’s own Estate located near the distillery, this grain-to-glass series bottles the spirit and flavour of the Highland single malt Scotch whisky’s homeland for whisky lovers everywhere. Aged for 15 years in designer bourbon casks to magnify its acclaimed creaminess, the fourth batch limited release is silky, rich and rounded, with notes of fruit and honey.

Glenmorangie’s Cadboll Estate lies just moments from the Distillery on the fertile Easter Ross Peninsula, which divides the Moray and Dornoch Firths. Few live in this world of wide-open skies, endless barley fields and beautiful beaches. And since it is far off the beaten track, only so many can visit. Inspired to share the essence of Glenmorangie with fans around the world, its whisky creators set about crafting a whisky from field to glass, and so the Cadboll Estate series was born. Each release begins with barley grown in only 26 hectares – eight fields – on the Estate. Planted and harvested precisely as the Distillery specifies, this small plot brings forth a spirit of rich creaminess.

To celebrate the Cadboll harvest of 2007, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators matured its precious spirit in their renowned designer casks. Hand-hewn from select American white oaks, air-dried and seasoned with bourbon to their exacting specifications, these casks are custom-made to bring Glenmorangie’s soft spirit to its best. Aged 15 years in that wood, the fourth batch release of Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate is uniquely full and silky, enriched with notes of honeycomb, apricots and pears.

Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden, said: “Grown in just eight fields near the Glenmorangie Distillery, Cadboll barley brings our spirit even more creaminess. To accentuate its incredible softness, we aged the fourth batch release of Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate in our renowned designer casks. Bespoke from field to glass, this 15-year-old single-estate whisky is alive with rich, silky flavours. Honeyed aromas of apricots and pears, and tastes of butter candy, orange and melon gives whisky lovers a delicious taste of our Highland homeland, wherever in the world they happen to be.”

Glenmorangie Cadboll Estate Batch 4 is now available to purchase online at Glenmorangie.com, the distillery visitor centre in Tain and at other select retailers, RRP: £76.

About Glenmorangie:

Glenmorangie’s whisky makers use endless imagination and five key ingredients – wood, water, barley, yeast and time – to dream up delicious single malt whiskies. They’ve been honing their craft for 180 years. They create a delicate and fruity spirit in stills as tall as an adult giraffe to allow for more taste and aroma. Led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden, this crackerjack crew are on a mission to bring new flavours and possibilities to the world of single malt.

Glenmorangie celebrates the joy of delicious single malt in every part of its universe, from its boutique hotel Glenmorangie House to its colourful brand campaign, shot by famed photographer Miles Aldridge. With its tagline “It’s Kind of Delicious and Wonderful”, Glenmorangie invites whisky lovers old and new to see themselves in Glenmorangie’s world.

About The Cadboll Estate series:

This unique series of field-to-glass whiskies was created to share the spirit and flavour of Glenmorangie’s ruggedly beautiful, yet remote homeland with whisky lovers old and new. It began with the first release of Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate in 2020, a deep and creamy single malt distilled in 2004 and aged in first-fill American white oak bourbon casks. The release was named Best Single Malt 15 Year Old at the International Whisky Competition (IWC) in 2021 and won a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), and gold at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) that year. The silky richness of the second batch, distilled in 2005, wonderfully reflected the subtle changes each year brings to the Highlands. It was awarded gold medals at the IWC, SFWSC, ISC and Scottish Whisky Awards. The nutty, spicy and creamy notes of the Amontillado-cask-matured third batch release, which won Gold in the 2023 International Spirits Challenge, are a deliciously sherried take on the series’ style.

About Cadboll barley:

Grown only in eight fields, covering 26 hectares of Glenmorangie’s Cadboll Estate, Glenmorangie’s own barley is grown and harvested just as its whisky creators wish – even down to the barley variety and the fields in which it is planted. When the barley is harvested, they arrange for it to be malted exactly as they choose, to bring even more creaminess to Glenmorangie’s wonderfully delicate spirit. Only enough barley can be harvested from the Estate each year for one or two weeks of production at the Distillery, meaning it is exceptionally precious.

About Glenmorangie’s designer casks:

Crafted each year in very small numbers, these casks are designed to be the perfect vessel for Glenmorangie’s spirit. They begin life in the forest’s northern slopes of Missouri’s Ozark Mountains. There, slow-growth American white oaks have a particularly porous structure. Inviting greater synergy between wood and spirit, they magnify Glenmorangie’s creamy character.

Only the best trees are selected to be cut into staves. Their wood is allowed to dry slowly in the open air, rather than a kiln, for two years, delivering gentler, sweeter flavours. Hand-crafted to Glenmorangie’s exacting specifications, the casks are then heavily toasted, and lightly charred to augment their natural wood notes. Seasoned with bourbon for four years to bring smoothness, they offer Glenmorangie the ultimate journey to maturation.

About Glenmorangie’s Whisky Creators:

Glenmorangie’s Whisky Creation Team’s favourite phrase is “What if?”. GLASGOW’S BLUE LAGOON & FIFE WHISKY BOTTLER TEAM-UP TO GIVE AWAY 50 FISH SUPPERS WITH WHISKY-INFUSED SAUCE

GLASGOW’S BLUE LAGOON & FIFE WHISKY BOTTLER TEAM-UP TO GIVE AWAY 50 FISH SUPPERS WITH WHISKY-INFUSED SAUCE

Glasgow institution Blue Lagoon has partnered with The Single Cask to celebrate International Fish & Chip Day on Thursday 6th June – offering 50 free Fish Suppers with whisky-infused sauce to take-away from their famed city-centre Gordon Street venue.

To celebrate International Fish & Chip Day on Thursday 6th June, Scottish Whisky bottler The Single Cask announces a special partnership with Glasgow’s iconic fish & chip shop Blue Lagoon.

Located next to Glasgow Central Station, Blue Lagoon Gordon Street will give 50 take-away Fish Suppers with whisky-infused sauce to the first customers who walk through the venue’s doors and ask for a ‘The Single Cask Saucy Sensation’ – with the offer lasting until the 50 are gone.

Fife-based The Single Cask have been working with local supplier The Whisky Sauce Co to create a range of delicious single cask whisky sauces*. The bottles will be on offer at The Single Cask events throughout the year and are available to buy online now from The Single Cask.

The Single Cask ‘Chippy Sauce’ is made using a 9-year-old single cask whisky from Benrinnes Distillery and uses balsamic vinegar of Modena to create that classic sweet & spicy flavour. Often associated with Edinburgh residents, The Single Cask are confident that Glaswegians will approve of their delicious single cask whisky ‘Chippy Sauce’.

Blue Lagoon has been a Glasgow phenomenon for nearly 50 years. Italian born entrepreneur Ersilio Varese & childhood sweetheart Edda Varese opened the first Blue Lagoon fish and chip shop on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street in 1975. The company is now headed up by Director Alessandro Varese, who manages venues across the city.

Founded in Fife, The Whisky Sauce Co specialises in creating the best whisky sauces in the country – creating a single cask range for the first-time which were debuted to lucky whisky fans at Feis Ile whisky festival on Islay at the end of May.

The Single Cask recently took on the challenge of demystifying whisky flavour as they relaunched their brand. By using five mood categories, whisky fans can quickly navigate to whichever whiskies they are in the mood for.
Helen Stewart, Brand Marketing Manager at The Single Cask, said: “Glasgow is such an exciting city and to partner with someone with the legendary history of Blue Lagoon is really special. We believe this collaboration showcases both flavour and character extremely well, two things that are very important to us at The Single Cask.

“We are always searching for the ultimate single cask experience and we really believe this can be found in so many different and innovative ways. Our brand new approach to flavour profiling is where each whisky we bottle is allocated to one of five moods. Partnerships like this really show the variety of possibilities when exploring, tasting and enjoying the ultimate single cask experience.”

Adding his thoughts on the partnership, Alessandro Varese, Director at Blue Lagoon said: “We strive to give the people of Glasgow the best fish and chips in the city. The Single Cask whisky is exceptional. It works deliciously in the ‘Chippy Sauce’ they have created. Their approach to flavour lends itself perfectly to our Fish Suppers at Blue Lagoon.

“As we always say, think fish and chips, think Blue Lagoon – this partnership will definitely get people thinking about our fish suppers on International Fish & Chip Day!”

The Single Cask pride themselves on bottling only the most outstanding, characterful, and distinctive single casks of whisky. The company values the distinct personality and cherishes the individuality of every single cask – celebrating whiskies that start conversations through their irresistible attraction: https://www.thesinglecask.co.uk/

Bottling unique spirits, hand-picked one cask at a time – The Single Cask bottles award-winning whiskies at natural cask strength, without any intervention such as chill filtration or artificial colours.

Powered by the incredible sense of togetherness whisky creates and a growing fascination with the one-of-a-kind personality of single cask bottlings, the passion soon led to the launch of their first bar in Singapore.

Now with a Glenrothes-based warehouse home to over 3000 casks, new retailers, on-trade partners and importers (such as the newly appointed High Spirits in the Netherlands) they are creating an ever-growing fan club family.

The Single Cask’s expertise is in the sourcing of casks and in the maturation – a bold pursuit to uncover whiskies that are both of exceptional quality and character. All their bottlings are tasting panel approved by The Single Cask Taste Masters – an exclusive panel of experts who seek out the thrill of the taste, helping it to become the best experience possible.

Bimber Distillery celebrates sporting excellence with The Spirit of the Underground Release No.6 – English Whisky News

Bimber Distillery celebrates sporting excellence with

The Spirit of the Underground Release No.6

London’s Bimber Distillery today announced the launch of the sixth release of its celebrated The Spirit of the Underground Collection, produced in conjunction with Transport for London (TfL).

Release No.6 travels to four new stations, each connected to a revered sporting location. All four single cask releases – Oval, Stratford, Wembley Park and Wimbledon – showcase the past and present of these legendary London locations. However, for this release the eye-catching labels and packaging designs also celebrate the sporting excellence which has taken place at each hallowed ground and thrilled people around the world for generations.

Drawn from Bimber’s finest casks, this release presents the distillery’s first selection of ‘double maturations’. Each expression has been matured in a combination of American and European oak, spending over 3 years within the second cask in order to masterfully weave both wood styles together. Each double cask expression has been crafted to tease out new aromas and flavours from the twin-cask approach. Carefully selected, monitored and then bottled at just the right moment, these new Spirit of the Underground releases present with an incredible depth of flavour and a perfect balance between the two casks and Bimber’s naturally fruit-forward spirit style. All four new releases showcase a different double maturation, with each bottled at natural cask strength and without filtration:

  • Oval – moscatel sherry cask double maturation 57.6%, 307 bottles
  • Stratford – fino sherry cask double maturation, 58.5%, 325 bottles
  • Wembley Park – marsala cask double maturation, 58.3%, 305 bottles
  • Wimbledon – Vino de Naranja cask double maturation, 56.6% 298 bottles

The Collection, which will total 44 individual releases, features a selection of iconic single malt whiskies that celebrate the heritage and diversity of the distillery’s home city. With eye-catchingly unique designs, each bottle presents a different Tube station on the London Underground network – the oldest underground passenger railway service in the world.

Release No.6 of The Spirit of the Underground Collection will be available directly from Bimber’s Spirit of the Underground website from Wednesday 5th till Sunday 9th June via a ballot and with an RRP of £135 per bottle.

Speaking of the launch of the sixth release, Bimber’s Matt McKay said: “We have been excited about releasing these four new stations since we first launched the Collection back in May 2021. Every great sporting moment is accompanied by a memorable story, whether that’s about perseverance, friendship, victory or loss. The sixth release of The Spirit of The Underground celebrates not only the history of four iconic locations but also the shared ability of both sport and whisky to bring people together. For this very special release we are delighted to unveil our first ‘double maturation’ casks. We have been internally trialling this new, longer approach to the maturation of our European oak casks and are thrilled to now offer these new Bimber flavour journeys to customers. Each tells its own double maturation story, and we’re tremendously excited to see how our double cask programme develops over the coming years.”

Ellen Sankey, Brand Licensing Manager at TfL, said: “The continuation of our partnership with Bimber Distillery sees the release of four new bottles, all with an association with key sporting locations across our network. We are proud to be collaborating with a London based independent brand, highlighting again that the city houses products of great quality. The creative and original use of our branding to help portray unique elements of our city’s association with sporting history shows the benefit that an innovative, long-term collaborations like this can have.”

This collection is the latest addition to a robust licensing programme, developed by TfL and its international licensing representative IMG, that brings the London Underground’s rich legacy and iconic brand identity to global audiences in unique and authentic ways.

All the expressions in The Spirit of the Underground Collection were crafted to Bimber’s exacting standards. The spirit was produced from the distillery’s single farm barley and malted on a dedicated floor at Warminster Maltings before being fermented for seven days in bespoke, on-site constructed American oak washbacks. Distillation took place in Bimber’s customised stills which possess an increased copper surface area, which results in a rich fruit-forward, layered spirit.

J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery Offers Custom Bourbon Bottles Perfect for Father’s Day

J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery Offers Custom Bourbon Bottles Perfect for Father’s Day

FRANKFORT, KY (May 30, 2024) –  Forget neckties for Father’s Day, give Dad a custom bottle of double-staved™ bourbon with your own personalized label from J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery.  Order online and choose Dad’s favorite mash bill from hundreds of proprietary double-staved barrels pre-selected by the Mattingly team of blenders.  Customize it even further by choosing the bottle shape, wax color for the stopper, and your own personal message on the label for Dad.  The J. Mattingly 1845 team will hand bottle it to your custom specifications and have it shipped to Dad’s door.   Orders placed before June 5 will be received by Father’s Day on June 16.  Orders placed after June 5 have the option of a downloadable gift card which can be printed and given to Dad on his special day.

All of J. Mattingly 1845’s whiskeys undergo its proprietary double-staving process, allowing the whiskey inside the barrels additional surface exposure to charred barrel staves to impart more flavor and color.  This extra surface exposure of the charred staves inside the barrels imparts more caramel and vanilla naturally from the wood, resulting in a more flavorful taste profile.  The barrels are then married together and after rigorous taste tests from J. Mattingly 1845’s team of blenders, a one-of-a-kind blend is created.

“The online custom bourbon bottles truly are a one-of-a-kind gift that dad, or any bourbon lover, will treasure,” said Harry Richart, president of J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery.  “Not only is the liquid inside with our double-staved bourbon blends never repeated, but your choice of bottle shape, custom message for the label and wax color combination make it a unique creation not found on the liquor store shelf.  It’s a gift that stands out from all others with all the customization opportunities.”
