NEW Auchentoshan, Bowmore, Glen Garioch Single Malt Scotch Whisky For The USA Market – Scotch Whisky News

Introducing three NEW and exceptional single malt Scotch whiskies from Auchentoshan, Bowmore and Glen Garioch.  All bottled at cask strength, all limited editions, all launching in the next few months as noted below, some in time for the holidays (in case you’re looking for a special gift or working on a gift guide).

Auchentoshan Valinch 2012 Limited Edition Vintage – Launch date: November 2012
Often referred to as the cellar master’s best friend, a ‘valinch’ is a tube that is extended into the cask to get samples for tasting to determine if the whisky is ready for bottling. An apt name for this malt since the spirit is cask-strength. This is the 2nd bottling of this limited edition. As Scotland’s only triple-distilled malt, Auchentoshan is incredibly velvety and smooth yet Valinch has a distinct kick due to its cask strength.

SRP: $59.99 (750ml; 57.2% ABV); 1,300 bottles for U.S.

Glen Garioch 1986 Vintage – Launch date: November 2012
A new introduction from this small Highland distillery, Glen Garioch 1986 is very limited with 3,000 bottles available for the entire world. It is the fifth expression in Glen Garioch’s Vintage range to date – 1978, 1990, 1991 and 1994. It’s a liquid gem from a Highland distillery, a perfect dram for the whisky connoisseur.

SRP: $249.99 (750ml; 54.6%), 250 bottles for U.S.

Bowmore Dorus Mor Small Batch Release – Launch date: January 2013
This cask-strength, 10 Years Old Bowmore can be found throughout the world by a more ‘tempestous’ name that can’t be used in the U.S., so only here it’s known as Dorus Mor, a name chosen by the brand’s Facebook fans. A heady and strong whisky from the magical island of Islay, Bowmore Dorus Mor tastes of the very sea itself, bursting with the soul of the untamed Scottish weather and shows Bowmore’s trademark peat smokiness. This formidable tour de force is worthy of its strong name.

SRP $ $119.99 (750ml; 55.1% ABV); 2,400 bottles for U.S.

This weeks search for an amazing “holiday-worthy” whiskey takes us back to the Green Mountains of Shoreham Vermont and Whistle Pig farm distillery, where they have recently released a special edition of their amazing rye whisky: WhistlePig TripleOne Rye Whiskey

Prior to tasting the original WhistlePig, the best rye I’d ever had was north and south of about a quarter pound of pastrami, with Russian dressing oozing out of the side. I’ve never been a big rye drinker, but after a few swigs of the original Pig, I quickly became a convert.

WhistlePig TripleOne, like the regular WhistlePig Rye, comes from Canadian grown rye as well. It was aged in new American oak barrels like the original offering, only for 11 years instead of 10.

WhistlePig looks to have had some fun with the play on 11, for besides it being aged 11 years it was bottled at 111 proof, with only 1100 cases released.

This is an very limited production whiskey. Fortunately for us, our man Nicky The Neck has a ski-house in VT, where he has been know by his neighbors to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to teach pigs to sing.

And so we’re are thrilled to be be able to offer you the opportunity to acquire a bottle of WhistlePig TripleOne Rye Whiskey for $111, while supplies last…because once it’s gone, it’s gone.

I urge you to give WhistlePig TripleOne Rye Whiskey a try. It will challenge everything you’ve ever thought about rye whiskey, and leave you squealing with happiness (sorry…just couldn’t resist).

Until next week…I wish you high spirits!

WHISTLEPIG TripleOne STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY

TASTING NOTES – WhistlePig Master Distiller David Pickerell

COLOR: Dark amber, very viscous

NOSE: Deep, rich, and promising, with lots of wood notes, oak, smoke, caramel, and vanilla all with a spicy richness peeking out from behind the trees.

TASTE: Neat: Amazingly spicy at first, with a wide array of distinctinve spices: clove, mint, anise, allspice, ginger backed by intense wood notes.

Cut with a few drops of water: The spiciness takes a half-step back and a very surprising note of Calvados comes to the front.

Add a few more drops of water: Leather and burnt orange start, dark chocolate develops late.

FINISH: Long and clean, with lots of caramel, butterscotch, and vanilla.
