New Kilchoman Expressions in Town From Impex Beverages – Scotch Whisky News

AA Kilchoman 2008

Kilchoman 2008 Vintage & PX Finish ImpEx Exclusive are now in!

Established in 2005, Kilchoman  is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Based on a farm on the rugged west coast of Islay, Kilchoman was the first distillery to be built on the island for 125 years. Kilchoman displays all that is great about the grass-roots traditions of Scotch whisky distilling. As well as being one of only a handful of distilleries still practicing floor malting, barley is also grown on the farm, making Kilchoman the only distillery to complete all parts of the whisky making process on site. Kilchoman truly is Islay’s farm distillery – from barley to bottling.

AA Kilchoman Sherry Cask

Kilchoman 2008 Vintage 46% ABV

This is Kilchoman’s first ever seven year old single malt, the most mature expression to be released by the Islay distillery since its establishment in 2005. The Limited Edition 2008 Vintage is a vatting of fresh ex American bourbon barrels filled in July 2008 and bottled in August 2015. This latest release is a continuation of Kilchoman’s by-annually released Vintage range, the distillery having previously bottled 2006 and 2007 Vintages. Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder and Managing Director; ‘The 2008 Vintage is a classic bourbon barrel aged Kilchoman however the additional maturation has added layers of soft fruit and sweetness not seen in previous releases.’    SRP $100/btl

Kilchoman PX Sherry Cask Finish (#680/2010) ImpEx Exclusive 57.2% alc

This is a single cask release initially matured in an ex-Bourbon barrel before being transferred into a Pedro Ximenez Sherry cask for a 4 month finishing period, prior to being bottled at cask strength. ImpEx Exclusive.  SRP $140/btl

Please feel free to reach out for more detail on both bottlings: office@impexbev.com

NEW RELEASES FROM SPRINGBANK/GLENGYLE!! – Scotch Whisky News

Springbank Society

NEW RELEASES FROM SPRINGBANK/GLENGYLE!!

Firstly, just a quick update on the latest Society bottling. The bottling became fully reserved within 6 days which is a new record for a Society bottling so thank you to everyone who has ordered! Everyone who has placed an order should now have had a reply so thank you for your patience with this and I look forward to getting all remaining orders processed and sent within the next week or so. If you have emailed and not received a reply then please let me know ASAP.

In other news, we are releasing not one, not two but THREE new releases this week!! Before I tell you about them, please note that if you wish to order any of the bottles from us then you have to phone our shop directly on +44 (0) 1586 55 1710 (option 1). Each of the new releases is extremely limited and are likely to sell out within the first few hours so I will not be able to keep track of how many bottles the shop have.

Now to the details…the first new release is the 2015 version of our Springbank Green. This whisky is 13 years old, was made using organic barley and has been fully matured in sherry casks. It has been bottled at 46% and there are 9,000 bottles available for worldwide distribution. The retail price for the Springbank Green is £60.00 and unfortunately Society Members will not receive the 10% discount on this. The tasting notes for the new Springbank Green are:

Nose: Sweet cereal notes are accompanied with raisin butter, apple crumble, kiwi fruit and turkish delight.

Palate: The palate is fruity with raisins and orange zest to the fore. Marzipan, vanilla and soft sherry notes are also present.

Finish: A long, medium dry finish with classic Springbank sweet salty notes, along with hints of bung cloth and fig rolls.

The second new release is the 2015 edition of the famous Springbank 25 year old. This whisky has been matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks before being married together in port casks. It has been bottled at 46% and is limited to only 900 bottles worldwide. The price of the Springbank 25 year old is £350.00 and again, unfortunately there will be no Society discount offered on this. The tasting notes for the 2015 Springbank 25 year old are:

Nose: The nose is light and fruity with notes of red apples and blueberries. Honeycomb and milk chocolate provide a sweet creaminess, which combines well with traditional dunnage warehouse aromas.

Palate: Very well balanced with notes of toffee apple, brandy butter, liquorice, milk chocolate and honeycomb.  Finish: Long and bold with light spices and black pepper immediately recognisable against a backdrop of dried peat. Butterscotch follows up at the end.

The third and final new release this week comes from our sister distillery, Glengyle. As many of you will be aware, 2016 will be an exciting year for Kilkerran whisky as it will turn 12 years old and we will release that as the first core range product from Glengyle Distillery.

As a treat for our UK customers right now, we are releasing a special single cask bottling which was distilled in May 2006 and bottled in October 2015. The whisky has been matured in a calvados cask, has been bottled at a cask strength of 57.3% and is extremely limited with only 282 bottles available. The price of this bottling is £52.00 and again because it is so limited, Society Members will not receive their discount on this. The tasting notes for the new Kilkerran UK Single Cask are:

Nose: Green apples, grapes, pear drops, pineapple and barley sugar.

Palate: Barley sugar is fairly prominent. Rich and buttery with stewing citrus fruits and mint.

Finish: Long, dry with tobacco, hints of peat and earthy notes.

All three bottlings will begin arriving in stores this week and will be available in our Campbeltown shop from today (Thursday 29th October) and will also of course be available in our Cadenhead shops in Edinburgh and London as well as other retailers. In addition, our European Cadenhead shops will be receiving stock of the Springbank Green and Springbank 25 year old in the coming weeks.

Please remember, if you would like to order any of the above bottles from our Campbeltown shop then you must contact them directly as I cannot take orders for the three new bottlings. You can telephone the shop on +44 (0) 1586 55 1710 (option 1).

Many thanks and best regards,

AA glenmorangie-a-midwinter-dram

$128.62

Glenmorangie A Midwinter Night’s Dram Highland single malt Scotch whiskey. This Limited Edition whisky is inspired by the great Scottish winters. Matured in Bourbon casks made from American white oak.

Aroma: Notes of orange marmalade, toffee, walnuts and mulled wine; tones of wine-soaked fruit, Christmas cake and a distinct whiff of musk or incense.

Taste: A rich, warming, peppery texture leading into myriad flavours of chocolate orange, ginger, walnuts, praline and some sweet butter candy.

Finish: A soft, medium strength, creamy finish, with further notes of malt biscuit and plump raisins.

Glenmorangie malt whisky Distillery was established in 1843 by William Matheson at Morangie Farm where distilling had been practiced as early as 1703. Glenmorangie is situated on the shore of the Dornoch Firth at Tain in Scotland’s Highland whisky region. Tall gin stills were installed rather than shorter whisky stills when the distillery was established and so Glenmorangie has ten of the tallest whisky stills in Scotland standing  5.14m tall. Glenmorangie Distillery has a visitor centre which offers distillery tours.

Increasingly Rare Whiskies from Closed Distilleries From Royal Mile Whiskies – Scotch Whisky News

AA RMW 1

CLOSED DISTILLERIES – Taste the History

Many distilleries have long since closed, but their whisky lives on, albeit in ever decreasing quantities. It’s fascinating to sample a dram knowing that it will never be produced again and this could possibly be your last chance to try it. It is equally interesting to realise that it wasn’t actually produced with a view to being drunk as a single malt. At the time production was geared towards making blends so the original intention would have been to mix it with other single malt and grain whiskies. In a few short decades single malt has not only become the pinnacle of whisky drinking to many, but the last gulps from these previously overlooked spirits have come to be cherished by drinkers as a record of what once was. Pressure on dwindling stocks and new investors are resulting in some slightly scary prices, but there are still a few affordable chances to try the individual characteristics and nuances of these spirits from the past. (Click here for a selection of whiskies available from deceased distilleries).
