The Spirits Embassy

AA SE 1

A higher strength single malt Scotch whisky, crafted with our century-old traditions. After at least 15 years maturing in traditional American oak and Spanish oak, it is non-chill filtered to protect its subtle flavours.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition || £44.00 incl. VAT

At Glenglassaugh, in addition to the traditional production, they also produce a very limited quantity of whisky using richly peated malted barley as the cereal varietal. The malted barley has been dried in the traditional way, over peat infused kilns, giving the whisky its unique smoky flavour. Glenglassaugh ‘Torfa’, with its peaty, phenolic nature, is a unique expression, and is quite different to the usual style of whisky produced in the Highlands.

Glenglassaugh Torfa || £38.00 incl. VAT

The water of Jura has long been believed to possess mystical qualities, owing to a legendary blessing by St Columba nearly 1,500 years ago. The islanders certainly have a history of longevity, with stories of a man who lived to see 180 Christmases in his own home – as an ancient gravestone not far from the Distillery attests. Whether island myth or fact, Diuriachs can certainly control the ageing process when it comes to whisky, so why not drink a drop of Elixir while the night’s still young?

The fight for greater transparency in Scotch whisky continues… – Scotch Whisky News

AA John

“The fight for greater transparency in Scotch whisky continues…”

Over the last few weeks we have been excited to witness a growing industry momentum behind our Scotch Whisky Transparency campaign, with other producers publicly adding to the debate.  As one of the many thousands of enthusiasts who signed our Statement of Beliefs, I’m writing to tell you where we, at Compass Box, stand today and what our next planned steps are.

Our talks with the wider Scotch industry continue behind the scenes and we are making progress in the critical task of building a consensus that change needs to take place.   Importantly, we have recently identified a pragmatic approach that we believe could allow authorities to use the existing regulations to crackdown on misleading product information whilst still permitting full transparency.  Until we have had the chance to discuss this approach with the industry we will continue to work within the confines of the existing regulations – but it offers the prospect of change on the horizon.  We will of course keep you fully posted as the situation develops.

In the meantime, those interested in greater transparency in the world of Scotch whisky may wish to keep their eyes open for our second Limited Edition release of 2016. Details will be shared in the coming days but rest assured it is a whisky with which to ponder the world of Scotch not only as it is, but also as it could be! As ever, we remain grateful for your support as the fight for greater transparency in the world of Scotch whisky continues.

New Releases from The Spirits Embassy – Scotch Whisky News

The Spirits EmbassyAA Glenkinchie 1

The Glenkinchie 12 Year Old replaces the discontinued 10 year-old as the main expression of the Lowland style. Glenkinchie distillery was founded in 1825 in the farmland around Edinburgh as Milton distillery. It was renamed to Glenkinchie in 1837 and had became a global sensation by the end of the 1980s.

Glenkinchie 12 Year Old || £35.00 incl. VAT

AA Benrinnes 1

The only Speyside dram to be triple-distilled like a Lowland malt or Irish whiskey. This is a very interesting dram and with a lot more body and character than Lowland and Irish Whiskey – making this spirit pretty impressive on the palate.

Benrinnes 15 Year Old || £49.50 incl. VAT

AA Glenkinchie 2

This 2000 vintage Glenkinchie Distillers Edition was bottled in 2014 at 43% ABV. The whisky was finished in Amontillado Sherry casks and harbors spicy aromas and a depth of dark fruit on the palate, which highly compliments the freshness and honey notes of Glenkinchie single malt.

Glenkinchie Distiller’s Edition || £53.50 incl. VAT

Whisky Ramblings Via Video #127 – Belgian Whisky News

Whisky Ramblings Via Video #127

Mark Dermul, Belgian Whisky blogger, tries new Belgian whisky! ‘Kempisch Vuur’ is a single cask that yielded only 300 bottles of 50cl. Once you realize that it was a quarter cask from Laphroaig, you will understand that this is peaty stuff. That is a first for Belgium!
