K&L California “OLD PARTICULAR’S GRAND FINALE” – Scotch Whisky News

KL125

OLD PARTICULAR’S GRAND FINALE

Not only do we have a 25 year old single barrel of Scotch at a full 62% proof for a mere $79.99, we’ve got all that from one of Scotland’s fallen soldiers: the mighty Cambus, closed forever in 1993. A rare and collectable treat!

1991 Cambus 25 Year Old “Old Particular” K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Grain Scotch Whisky (750ml) ($79.99)

The final cask from our most recent shipment of Old Particular single casks is this lovely little number from Cambus, one of Diageo’s top grain distilleries until it was closed forever in 1993. That means every bottle of Cambus that gets consumed from this point out moves the whisky a step closer to total extinction! This 25 year old single cask, originally distilled in September of 1991, is a glorious example of both Cambus and grain whisky at its most splendid. The nose is a hedonistic wave of butterscotch and vanilla, followed by tropical notes on the palate with plenty of oak spice and syrup. Those who love the banana element that can be found in Bourbon should go gaga for this. It’s difficult to believe the whisky is bottled at 62% ABV, mainly because of how rich and wonderful it is. While offering spice and plenty of heft, the power is still masked by the symphony of vanilla and syrup on the finish. For collectors who enjoy drinking whisky made at now-defunct facilities, a bottle of 25 year old Cambus represents quite an affordable luxury at $79.99. For fans of Scotch or even American whiskies who enjoy drinking delicious, cask strength, single barrel expressions, this is a must have.

David Driscoll | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 13, 2017

This isn’t the first cask of Cambus we’ve bottled in my time at K&L, but this 25 year easily represents the best value/quality ratio we’ve offered in some time in the legendary lore of “closed” distilleries. Drinking whisky from a “closed” distillery for Scotch fans is much like shopping for vintage couture in that it’s a chance to enjoy a piece of history once thought forever gone. Cambus was dismantled in 1993, but the whisky lives on in this bottle! Rich and full of vanilla bean, caramel, and burnt banana, this is a whisky that’s as easy to love as it is to drink. And it’s somewhat of a collectable. All that, at cask strength, for eighty bucks!

Ryan Woodhouse | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 14, 2017

I fell for Cambus the first time I tasted it. We did a single cask previously that just blew me away. I figured since the distillery closed more than two decades ago the chance of ever seeing it again was slim. But wait…another stunning bottle shows up and the richness, texture and pure opulence of this spirit all comes flooding back to me. To be honest this is a perfect illustration of how ridiculous it is that grain whiskey seems to be held in lower regard the malt. If straight drinking pleasure and satisfaction is your motivation I’d probably suggest the opposite. This has all the intensity, complexity and drinkability you could ever hope for…plus it’s 25 years old and pricing well under $100. You need this on your bar…and not just to look at…this is made for daily drinking.

Andrew Stevens | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: June 14, 2017

At this point I hope there are no holdouts that shop our whisky selection who believe that single grain whisky cannot deliver when it is by itself. If so please grab a bottle of this 25 year old Cambus to change your mind. This beauty opens up with soft notes of almond, vanilla, hay and early orchard fruit. There is an elegance here, but still plenty of flavor and complexity. Notes of creamy vanilla custard and grans intermingle with a rising notes of spice and a little heat that lingers long after that last sip.

GLEN KEITH 20 YEAR OLD at The Whisky Shop – Scotch Whisky News

WS GlenK

Glen Keith 20 year old

This 20 year old Speyside single malt was distilled at Glen Keith in August 1996. Matured in a single refill butt, only 60 bottles were produced in April 2017. Presented at a natural cask strength of 58.3% abv without chill filtration. A very complex Glen Keith which offers notes of tropical fruit and a candy sweetness that is out of this world. One of our favourite whiskies of the year so far! Please note: Stock is highly limited.

Ardbeg Kelpie rises from the depths…at The Whisky Shop – Scotch Whisky News

KelpieWS

Ardbeg Kelpie

A limited edition bottling celebrating Ardbeg Day at the 2017 Islay Festival, Kelpie is the distillery’s first whisky with a heart matured in virgin oak from the Black Sea coast. Only a handful of whiskies have ever been matured in Black Sea casks, renowned for their deep flavour influence. When married with ex-bourbon cask matured Ardbeg spirit, the resulting Islay single malt tells of its ties to the Black Sea and the waves of flavour its casks have created.

Intense aromas of oily peat, chocolate, smoked fish and a curious herbal note dance on the nose with waves of spicy black pepper. The palate is rich and peppery with treacle, coffee, smoky bacon and dark chocolate before a burst of peach, hickory and black olives. The finish has deep flavours of clove, tar and rich toffee, seemingly lasting forever.

ROYAL SALUTE UNVEILS EXCLUSIVE 30 YEAR OLD THE FLASK EDITION

Bespoke flask offers whisky connoisseurs the best of British luxury on the move

19th June 2017, Royal Salute, the exceptionally crafted and aged Scotch whisky, has unveiled an exclusive bespoke collector’s item – Royal Salute 30 Year Old The Flask Edition, offering whisky connoisseurs a luxurious way to drink Royal Salute on the move. The collector’s item houses a precious, rich and silky 30 year-old liquid, crafted exclusively by Royal Salute’s Director of Blending, Sandy Hyslop, and is presented alongside a bespoke porcelain flask, and other elegant accessories, from London’s award-winning designer, Afroditi Krassa.

A distinctive, full-bodied blend, Royal Salute 30-year-old The Flask Edition has been expertly crafted with some of the finest Scotch whiskies, aged for a minimum of 30 years. Providing the perfect vessel to house this unique blend, the edition is accompanied by a custom-made porcelain flask complete with funnel and wooden serving tray designed to provide the ultimate whisky drinking experience at home or while travelling. Afroditi Krassa, who created the refined accessories, has taken inspiration from one of the most ancient and elemental of art forms – the crystalline glazing process – and given it a contemporary twist.

Peter Moore, Global Prestige Brand Director at Chivas Brothers, commented: “The Royal Salute 30 Year Old The Flask Edition is a unique collector’s item that represents the perfect travel accessory for those on the go and celebrates our brand’s long history of crafting and refining luxury. The Flask Edition was first exclusively released in China and sold out immediately. Given this success, we are delighted to release limited quantities of this extraordinary product globally and give whisky aficionados the chance to enjoy Royal Salute at home or on the move.”

London-based Afroditi Krassa said of the collaboration: “I have a simple motivation each time I start a new project: I want to challenge the status quo. That’s why I was so inspired by Royal Salute – while all other whisky brands are content with glass, Royal Salute houses its whisky in precious porcelain. I wanted to apply the same attitude to a flask and create something that is beautiful while also turning tradition on its head. Ceramics has a rich history and this project presented a really interesting contrast of ancient techniques crafted for a modern audience.”

A true collectors’ item, only a limited number of Royal Salute 30 Year Old The Flask Edition will be released. Initially available exclusively in China, a limited number can now be purchased at select, prestigious retailers across the globe, with a RRP of $790.
