Taketsuru Age Statements at Milroys of Soho – Japanese Whisky News

AA Milroys13

*COMING SOON*

Taketsuru age statements

This Wednesday, the Taketsuru 17 year and Taketsuru 21 year will be landing in store. Notoriously fast sellers so get your hands on them quick.

Milroys14

Masataka Taketsuru.

Founder of Japanese whisky.

Japanese whisky has been becoming increasingly prominent in the whisky industry and we have Mr Taketsuru to thank for it. In the early 1900s he did apprenticeships at Hazelburn and Longmorn after studying Organic Chemistry at the university of Glasgow. In 1920 he moved back to Japan with his Scottish wife Rita where he helped to establish Suntory as a whisky brand before he left and opened Yoichi Distillery in the mountains of Hokkaido and thus, the Nikka brand.

Macallan 23 Year-Old At Unbeatable Post-Brexit Pricing at K&L California – Scotch Whisky News

kl_logo_trans

A Colossus Of Deal On One Of The World’s Most Coveted Scotches

1993 Macallan 23 Year Old “Old Particular – K&L Exclusive”

($299.99)

“We’ll always take older casks of Macallan if there’s a reasonable price attached to the barrel. In this case, $299 is beyond reasonable. It’s downright unreal.” – David Driscoll, K&L Spirits Buyer

This single cask of barrel strength Macallan 23 represents our biggest coup yet in the post-Brexit Scotch era. We’re living in whisky world where Macallan 25 now costs $1700 per bottle. If the distillery even offered a cask strength edition of that expression it would easily be over $2000. Yet somehow, someway, we’ve managed to secure a single barrel of 23 year old Macallan at full proof for a shocking $299.

One of the main differences you’ll find in the Old Particular offering is the lack of sherry influence, which would normally be the calling card of the distillery version. Rather than toffee and cakebread, this single hogshead cask highlights the finesse and fruitiness of the Highland legend. With ample vanilla, dried apricot, oak spice, and plenty of sweet malted barley on the finish, the flavors are dialed up at 110.2 proof, so a bit of water is recommended. Macallan is one of the most graceful and effortless whiskies in the world, qualities that have cemented its status as the elite Scottish single malt distillery. We have to imagine this will be the last time we’re able to offer a whisky of this status at this price. Having just gone back to find more this past month, prices were upward of $800 per bottle for casks of the same maturity.

1993 Macallan 23 Year Old “Old Particular – K&L Exclusive” Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) ($299.99)

David Driscoll | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: February 07, 2017

Come and get it while you can! That’s pretty much all I can add to the above tasting notes. This is classic Highland whisky that showcases everything Macallan is famous for (other than the sherry). It’s elegant, complex, easy to love, full of Highland flavor, and it tastes expensive. I would never pay $2000 for a bottle, but of course we’re not asking you to. We’ll always take older casks of Macallan if there’s a reasonable price attached to the barrel. In this case, $299 is beyond reasonable. It’s downright unreal considering the market.

New Release from Bunnahabhain at The Whisky Shop – Scotch Whisky News

AA Whisky Shop Header

AA BunnaWS

Bunnahabhain Moine Oloroso

This limited edition from Islay’s Bunnahabhain distillery takes its name from the Scots Gaelic for peat, Moine, and the seven Oloroso sherry casks in which it was matured. Revealing a side of the distillery not often seen, this rich and complex single malt is presented non chill-filtered at a cask strength of 60.1% abv.

The nose is rich in raisins, sultanas and toffee before a peppery smoke. The palate is rounded with sweet sherry and dried fruit, salted toffee and a syrupy feel developing into smoke layered over oak and citrus. Sweet smoke lingers in the finish.

New 2017 Whisky – a Caperdonich Carn Mor at The Whisky Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

TWB 10 Yrs

Carn_Mor_2017_release-

Our first batch of brand new scotch whisky bottled in 2017 has just landed with us, from the lovely folks at Morrison & MacKay. A lovely selection of new Carn Mor whisky including a rather special bottling from one of Scotland’s lost Whisky Distilleries; Caperdonich. Alongside this rare malt are some superb drams we have come to expect from the Carn Mor label. A bold smokey Ledaig, a sherried Speysider and a lesser known Croftengea from the stills at Loch Lomond Distillery. We’ve had a wee taste of them too. A fine selection to kick of 2017 scotch whiskey!

The Strictly Limited Editions

From single distilleries these bottlings may come from one or two casks.  Generally younger scotch but offer a great variety and show that age isn’t everything.

Springbank Local Barley Update – Scotch Whisky News

Springbank Society

Hey folks, me again.

I have wrestled back control of the Society mailing list from Mairi P although this message isn’t really from me either; I’m writing on behalf of the Cadenhead Campbeltown shop.

As many of you will have seen by now through our Social Media accounts, we have announced that the new Local Barley will be available soon.

And the last word of that sentence is important – soon.

Remember folks, when the Springbank Local Barley 11yo is actually released the Society will receive a newsletter (a proper one this time) telling you when it is available for purchase.

I’m afraid it is not yet available but Donald (Campbeltown Shop Manager) has asked me to drop you all a message because he is getting a lot of enquiries into the Campbeltown Shop about the LB. He cannot reserve any bottles and it will be sold on a first come first serve basis by telephone order (and will be one per person). All of this information will be stressed again in the future newsletter I referenced above.

Some of you are anxious to find out more information on this release and I promise you will have it in good time. I know you are all excited, we are too, but this highly anticipated release will be available soon, very soon. But not just yet. Slainte Nathan For the Springbank Society

The tasting will take place on Wednesday 24th May at 11:30am in the Malt Barns at Springbank Distillery and will be free for members to attend. Please note that we cannot allow any non-members into this tasting.

The tasting will involve choosing the next Society bottling (due for release in Autumn) but will take a slightly different format to previous years which we are very excited about. That’s all we can say at the moment but we promise it will be a fun way to start the festivities.

On arrival to Springbank Distillery, you will be greeted with a champagne reception which will also feature a range of locally sourced canapés.

Following this, you will sample a selection of whiskies, hand drawn from the cask by a member of our senior production team. The most popular choice will be bottled for you to take home on the night.

You will then be led to your table to enjoy a four course meal with a specially selected wine to accompany each course.

To end your unique experience, each attendee will be presented with their own exclusive 70cl hand drawn bottle, chosen earlier in the evening.
