The Whisky Lounge Presents – Newcastle Whisky Lounge Festival June 12th (UPDATE) – Scotch Whisky News

wl20festival20newcastle20logo20250x188

HI all,

Hope you are looking forward to the Whisky Festival on Saturday – we certainly are!

I have some very exciting news regarding the last masterclass session of the day…

Rather than give this over to one distillery or brand, I have decided to give 25 lucky people the opportunity to taste some of the finest whiskies they will ever taste! These whiskies will be presented by the people responsible for their production or sales and will NOT be available to taste in the main hall. The whiskies on tasting will include a 40 Year Old Glenfarclas, presented by George Grant and a 1972 Glenlivet, from Berry Brothers and Rudd, presented by Edward Bates among others!

This very exciting session is now booking and at only £15 represents amazing value and the opportunity of a lifetime! In order to book you need to email me by return with your name, how many places you require plus a contact number for you.

I have also had to move the other masterclasses for the day forward slightly, to ensure none of them clash with this momentous event.
So as a reminder…

12.15-1.30pm

Diageo – Distillers Editions, £7.50

Colin Dunn – UK Malt Whisky Ambassador, Diageo

2.00-3.15pm

English Whisky – A Momentous Occasion, £7.50

David Fitt, Head Distiller, St. George’s Distillery

2.00-3.15pm

Suntory – Japanese Whiskies, £7.50

Dr. Inatomi, Senior Global Brand Ambassador, Suntory

3.45-5.00pm

Best of The Fest! – The Whisky Lounge, £15

Eddie Ludlow plus a panel of special guests

I am also running an introductory session at the Whisky Lounge stand at around 12.30pm for those who are new to the event and would like to arm themselves for the day to come with some fundamental knowledge. The cost of this is only £5.

For all of these sessions please email with your name, places required and a contact number.

I really look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Slainte!
Eddie

The Whisky Lounge – Arran An Island Story – Scotch Whisky News

Arran – An Island Story
The Red Lion, Crown Passage, London SW1
Tuesday June 22nd 2010, 7.30pm

£20.00 / ticket

red20lion20120250x188
When the opening of the Arran distillery at Lochranza was announced in 1996 there was much excitement among whisky-lovers at the prospect of a new whisky on the market. The only frustrating thing was that there was a long wait to endure before being able to taste mature stock. Thankfully the guys (and gals) at Arran are not without vision and decided to release whisky at a younger age in order to keep everyone happy. They are also not averse to experimenting with different casks…

We are delighted to announce this series of tastings in order that we can taste a whole sluice of their whiskies at different ages and cask types. We will also be exclusively sampling a new bottling that is being released around the same time as this series. At most of the tastings we will be welcoming the very passionate and knowledgeable UK Brand Ambassador, Celine Tetu – definitely an added bonus!

As always each tasting is designed to be fun and enjoyable for all levels of whisky drinker, and is not a lecture. You will almost certainly learn something new every time, but if you don’t walk out with a smile on your face then there we have done something wrong!

You will not be sent a ticket through the post. Your details will be added to the event register and all you need to do is print the payment confirmation page and bring it with you to the event.

Michael Jackson Whisky Companion Book Launch with Dominic Roskow

Monday 14th June 7pm

With the release of the new Whisky Companion, the very knowledgeable and conversant writer, whisky expert, and main contributor to the book, Dominic Roskow will be hosting a press launch at The Whisky Exchange, Vinopolis, on Monday 14th June. Dominic will be discussing the book, while taking us through 6 different Whyte and Mackay whiskies (Dalmore, Jura, Whyte & Mackay Blends). Dominic will no doubt be happy to sign a few copies of the book, which you’ll be able to purchase on the evening, and will of course be available to answer any questions you may have.

This event is absolutely FREE of charge, though places are quite limited. It will take the form of an informal event in the shop (as opposed to our more common seated affairs), and should last no more than around 90min. As stated, the places for this are very limited, so please do not ring and take a place unless you are sure you are coming. We will know who you are….

In order to reserve a place at this event, please call us on +44 (0)207 403 8788 to provide your details.

Masterclasses

There will be four masterclasses during this festival. In order to book onto the classes you will need to first book a general entry ticket and then email masterclasses@thewhiskylounge.com with your requirements and contact details.

The Whisky Lounge has announced the masterclasses for the much anticipated 2nd Newcastle Whisky Lounge Festival on Saturday June 12th.

12.15-1.30pm Whisk(e)y – What’s it all about? £5

Eddie Ludlow, The Whisky Lounge

Eddie, founder of The Whisky Lounge and Whisky Evangelist, takes you through an introductory tasting of the main styles of whiskies available in the UK today and talks you through what makes them ‘tick’. Perfect for those who would like to know the basics and want to then enjoy the rest of the day feeling a little more ‘prepared’.

1.00-2.15pm Diageo – Distillers Editions £7.50

Colin Dunn – UK Malt Whisky Ambassador, Diageo

Friend and supporter of The Whisky Lounge, Colin Dunn, makes his Newcastle Festival masterclass debut! He is great fun and has a fantastic reputation for getting people excited about whisky. Not to mention a lovely selection of whiskies of all styles to show you!

2.00-3.15pm English Whisky – Who would have thought! £7.50

David Fitt, Head Distiller, St. George’s Distillery

A very exciting time is upon us – the first English malt whisky distillery for around 120 years commenced production in 2006. Jim Murray loves it and so do we. Come and hear (and taste) from the horse’s mouth the story of how it all happened and what they are up to.

3.00-4.15pm Suntory – Japanese Whiskies (7.50)

Personnel to be confirmed

Japanese whiskies are firmly on the radar now with many of their whiskies now multiple-award winners. Join an expert from Morrison Bowmore on a fascinating journey into the heart of the industry whilst tasting some amazing whiskies of course.

3.45-5.00pm Best of the Fest(ival) – The Whisky Lounge (TBC) (£15)

Eddie Ludlow, Founder, The Whisky Lounge, plus special guests

You, Eddie and a panel of experts decide on the best whiskies from a selection of premium bottlings representing some of the assembled exhibitors in a blind taste-off. Who will come top and win this prestigious prize?  A very appropriate way to end the day!

As a reminder, the festival takes place…

The Civic Centre, Barras Bridge, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Saturday 12th June 2010 12-5pm

Tickets are only £18 for the full session and include a Glencairn tasting glass, all of your drams, water and a festival guide.

The tastings aim to inform and entertain. The relaxed approach is still structured and props are used so the tastes and smells of the various influences on production can be experienced first hand, for example there will be the opportunity to smell and/or taste both malted and un-malted barley, yeast and new make spirit.

The tasting usually ends with a raffle where every entrant wins a miniature’s worth of whisky left over from previous tastings, entry to the raffle is an additional £2 and any further donations being collected for World Vision’s ‘Sponsor a Child’ scheme (we’ve collected more than £1500 to date).

All tastings include oatcakes, shortbread and chocolates.

The Tollbooth offers meals up to the time of tasting.

ENTRY BY PREPAID TICKET ONLY – prices from £17*
