Please join us for the 3rd Annual Rock & Rye celebration on Saturday, July 31st, 2010, brought to you by the Templeton Community Betterment Association and your friends at Templeton Rye.

Below is the Rock & Rye 2010 schedule of events:

4:00 – 6:00 PM – Free Templeton Rye distillery tours for ticket holders
6:00 PM – Beer garden opens. (All proceeds benefit the Templeton Community Betterment Association.)
7:30 PM – Aged Spirits
9:00 PM – The Nadas

Tickets will be available at the door for $10 per person. We are also bringing three charter buses from Des Moines to Templeton for the party. A seat on the bus is $50 per person plus a nominal Eventbrite fee and includes your ticket to the show. These seats are limited so get yours today..

Buses will be departing the Jordan Creek Costco parking lot in West Des Moines at 4:00 p.m. sharp on July 31st. The buses are air-conditioned with restrooms and will allow beverages (cans or plastic only – no glass) in soft-side coolers. After the concert, the buses will depart from Templeton at 11:30 p.m. arriving back in West Des Moines just after 1:00 a.m. Cabs will be available in the Costco parking lot upon return if requested.

COMPASS BOX RETROSPECTIVE

Compass Box Whiskymaker John Glaser is maverick, risk taker and master blender all rolled into one package. He is providing us a unique opportunity to explore the history of Compass Box whiskies through verticals representing a number of the unique whiskies he has created over the last 10 years. These include Peat Monster, Spice Tree, Hedonism and more. Due to the rarity of the whiskies, this tasting will be limited in size and reservations are strictly required. $20 W/Binny’s Card / $30 non-members.

Old Pulteney Tasting Monday 21st June 7pm

This month, we have the pleasure of an evening with Malcolm Waring, the Distillery Manager at the Old Pulteney Distillery at Wick on the far North-East coast of the Scottish Highlands. Established in 1826, The Pulteney Distillery is found in the heart of ‘Pulteneytown’, created to house fishermen during Wick’s ‘herring boom’. The most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, the spirit crafted here is a distillation of this unique location. The house style is generally quite dry, with a hint of coastal, briny air and a medium bodied spirit.

For this tasting, we will be sampling the core range from Old Pulteney Distillery which includes a 12yo, 17yo and 21yo, plus the recently launched and very well received 30yo. If that alone isn’t enough to get you salivating like a hungry Border Terrier, then we also have a rare chance to try not one but two 23yo Travel Retail Exclusive bottlings to (literally) sweeten the deal. How about that!

Tickets for this event are priced at £25.00 per person, and as usual are limited to 2 places per booking. These will go on sale at 3:00pm, Monday 14th June. (That was yesterday…shake a leg!)

Free Whisky Tasting &  Michael Jackson Whisky Companion Book Launch with Dominic Roskow

Monday 14th June 7pm

With the release of the new Whisky Companion, the very knowledgeable and conversant writer, whisky expert, and main contributor to the book, Dominic Roskow will be hosting a press launch at The Whisky Exchange, Vinopolis, on Monday 14th June. Dominic will be discussing the book, while taking us through 6 different whiskies (Dalmore, Jura, Whyte & Mackay Blends). Dominic will no doubt be happy to sign a few copies of the book, which you’ll be able to purchase on the evening, and will of course be available to answer any questions you may have.

This event is absolutely FREE of charge, though places are quite limited. It will take the form of an informal event in the shop (as opposed to our more common seated affairs), and should last no more than around 90min. As stated, the places for this are very limited, so please do not ring and take a place unless you are sure you are coming. We will know who you are….
