10 minute Speed Tastings at Maltstock 08-10 September 2017 – Whisky News

Maltstock

10 Minute Speed Tastings

What’s this? An effort to taste as many whiskies as you can in 10 minutes?

MS1

Nooooh! Of course not! That would not be relaxed!

10 Minute Speed Tastings are your chance to sit in at a specially prepared tasting session. 10 Minutes, only a few people per session and a couple of chances to sit in. And it all ends with the sounding of the horn!

Sounds like fun?

We tried this last year and it is a tun of fun! And relaxed!

MS2

Speed tasting testing @ Maltstock 2016

Last year we saw Tony van Rooijen do his normal tasting in just over ten minutes, Werner Bos did a rum tasting and Sietse did a very special Macallan tasting.  This year we sort of (in a Maltstock way) organized it and the speed tastings are featuring the World of Whisky brand ambassadors (in alphabetical order)

  • Bram Kaplan
  • Sietse Offringa
  • Tony van Rooijen

No need to book, simply show up just before a tasting starts. First 12 people will get a seat. So, just buy a Maltstock ticket and sneak into a tasting at one of these times:

  • Tony van Rooijen: Glenfiddich – 14.00hr – 15.00hr – 16.00hr
  • Sietse Offringa: Macallan – 14.20hr – 15.20hr – 16.20hr
  • Bram Kaplan: Highland Park – 14.40hr – 15.40hr – 16.40hr

2017 program

Our crazy packed 2017 program will provide you with a relaxed weekend of whisky fun. If you want to check out all the Maltstock goodness that is coming your way this summer: Click here

Paul John Whisky at The Whisky Shop #SFO – Indian Whisky News

Paul John

Tuesday, August 15th 4-7PM:

Paul John Whiskey with Distillery Owner Paul John

John Paul whisky is a testament to the beauty of Goa, traditionally made in copper-pot sills, without artificial colours, flavours, or chill-filtration. The mash is made from a heritage variety of six row barley, harvested in the foothills of Himalayas. Goa’s tropical climate naturally accelerates the maturation process, taking an angel’s share of 8% per annum for its contribution. Their resulting whiskies have received multiple international awards, the most recent being Gold awards from both the 2017 World Whisky and Wizards of Whisky Award.

Distillery owner Paul John will be present, as well as distillery representatives and our own in-store whisky experts.

Enjoy Award-Winning Malts By Moonlight This Weekend

The Birmingham Whisky Club has teamed up with Thinktank Science Museum and Talisker to bring Birmingham a tasting of galactic proportions.

You don’t need to be an astronaut to get ‘up close and personal’ with the Moon this Saturday. This very special event will give the whisky curious an opportunity to taste through six incredible drams from the Talisker distillery, led by renowned whisky expert Colin Dunn, under the light of Luke Jerram’s incredible ‘Museum Of The Moon’ installation. With the whisky lineup including the brands 25 year old and 30 year old bottlings (the latter costing over £350 on its own), it’s sure to be an interstellar evening.

This event is being held as part of the ‘Museum Of The Moon’ national tour (now open at Thinktank Museum) and gives attendees an exclusive chance to enjoy the installation whilst the museum is closed to the general public. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound musical composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones. Created by artist Luke Jerram, the installation uses detailed imagery from NASA of the lunar surface to create a scale replica of the moon (approximate scale of 1:500,000).

Colin Dunn, Diageo Reserve Whisky Ambassador said: We are really excited to be working with The Birmingham Whisky Club to present this fantastic line up of whiskies in such an exceptional setting.

Talisker is the only Single Malt Whisky on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. I hope that presenting these whiskies alongside the moon will evoke the tidal and rugged landscape of where they’re produced and take the audience on a journey to Scotland as they taste through the selection.”

Amy Seton, Owner of The Birmingham Whisky Club said: “We are delighted to be working with Luke Jerram to showcase these amazing whiskies in an unusual and creative way. We look forward to welcoming Colin to Birmingham for this extraordinary tasting event.”

The exclusive tasting will be held on Saturday 5th August 2017 and there are two time slots to choose from (5:30pm – 7:00pm or 8:00pm – 9:30pm). Tickets can be purchased here. Prices start at £30 and include an expert led tasting through six different whiskies. Discounted tickets are available for members of the Birmingham Museums Trust and The Birmingham Whisky Club.

The Whisky Show “Glenmorangie masterclass: on sale now” – Scotch Whisky News

TWSWS

MASTERCLASS TICKETS NOW ON SALE

THE ART OF INNOVATION WITH DR BILL LUMSDEN SUNDAY 1 OCTOBER 3.45PM

GLENMORANGIE

Many distilleries experiment with wood, but few actually release the results for the world to see. Back in the early 1990’s, Glenmorangie did exactly this, releasing a range of whiskies matured in brand-new casks made from different varieties of oak. Dr Bill Lumsden, the mastermind of the experiment, will be joining us to lead this class, giving us a chance to try these long-sold-out whiskies. Starting from The Glenmorangie Original 10 Year Old, the class will jump into the effect of different types of oak on whisky, ending with an unreleased experimental dram, specially selected by Bill Lumsden for the class. This is a rare chance not only to try a range of rare whiskies from Glenmorangie, but also hear about their creation from the man behind the drams.

Join Glenmorangie whiskymaker Dr Bill Lumsden to discover the distillery’s experimental past and how these whiskies shaped its future releases.
