Just in case you hadn’t noticed, we have been extremely busy here at TWL HQ! Our 20th Anniversary celebrations are now in full swing and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you soon. Read on for all the upcoming and current happenings…
…but didn’t even know it. Our 20th Anniversary book, entitled, ‘Bringing Whisky to the People since 2005’. Some of you will know that this has been in the works since earlier in the year. I can confirm that it has been a real labour of love, for Isabel Graham Yooll (who organised the whole thing), and myself and Amanda, and in some ways much tougher than writing my book, Whisky – A Tasting Course. But, in other ways it has been even more rewarding.

What you need to know, is that the book contains interviews with some of our favourite people in the whisky industry, answering questions wide and varied. All centred around the key question: ‘Has the whisky industry changed more, in the last 20 years, than in the previous 200.’
We have certainly seen so much change, from our perspective, but we got the opinions and insight from the likes of Dave Broom, Charlie MacLean MBE, Dr. Nick Morgan, Dr. Bill Lumsden MBE, plus TWL stalwarts such as, Joe Clark, Jonny McMillan, Angus MacRaild (aka The Whisky Sponge) and Billy Abbott. Even myself and Amanda could not escape, so we’re in there too.
There are stories aplenty, some hilarious, plus there are lots of photos and images from TWL’s first 20 years. You might even spot yourselves! We have self-published the book and printed an initial 200 copies. It is available now, for £16.99 (including delivery), from our website. We hope you like it!

Our current Pour Your Own Single Cask release is likely to sell out soon. Available exclusively at Glengoyne Distillery, this is a rare release that beautifully showcases the influence of Pedro Ximénez sherry and European oak.
Distilled on 17th November 2010 and bottled at a bold 54.2% ABV, this whisky has matured for 14 years, developing remarkable depth and character.
The whisky glows a rich amber in the glass, with a nose full of ripe red apple skin, juicy peach, and rosehip syrup, delicately layered with toffee and milk chocolate. On the palate, lush red stone fruits take centre stage, unfolding into warming spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, all softened by elegant oak.
A smooth and lingering finish, carrying gentle warmth and delicate spice.

A premium blend of whiskies, aged up to 12 years in barrel with a minimum malt. Light in style with a rich backbone of malt whisky character. Cereal notes and a light sweetness allow for the whisky to be used in both highball and straight pours. The Yonezawa family’s experimentation with distilling started over a century ago, in 1917, and has been part of their legacy ever since. The distillery sits on the coast, swept by sea winds and salty breezes, which gives many benefits for the aging of whisky.

An expression that pays homage to Baker’s trucking business, where he delivered grains to the James B. Beam Distilling Co. During this time, he developed an appreciation for different grains and their influence on whiskey. This high-rye recipe has 2x the standard amount of rye in Baker’s Bourbon and is a continuation of our innovation journey, celebrating Baker Beam and all that he did for our distillery. This liquid is distilled to a 107 proof and barreled and aged for a minimum of 7 years, allowing the bourbon to pull more caramel, dried fruit, and vanilla flavor from the barrel wood.
53.5% ABV | SRP: $74.99

This limited edition bottling of special 13-year single barrel liquid explores how time and location in the warehouse drives distinction from barrel to barrel. Baker’s base bourbon is distilled to a lower proof and barreled and aged for a minimum of 13 years. This extra-aged expression allows the bourbon to pull more toasted nut, fruit, and vanilla flavor from the barrel wood.

Confidently rich, with natural smoke, and minerality alongside a woodier, sweeter, and fruitier finish. A showcase of masterful maturation, this deep and enigmatic 15-Year-Old Sherry Oak Cask beautifully reconciles its sweet and gently spicy persona.

LONDON WHISKY SHOW 2025 RECAP
This October marked our first appearance at the London Whisky Show; one of the largest and most renowned whisky festivals in the world. It was a privilege to introduce the Aberargie name to whisky enthusiasts and offer a first taste of what’s to come when we officially launch in March 2026.

Across the weekend, visitors experienced the patience and craftsmanship that define Aberargie. A whisky quietly confident in its quality, distilled and matured on our family farm in Perthshire. We were also delighted to run our first Aberargie competition, where new subscribers had the chance to win one of the very first bottles of Aberargie Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

A warm congratulations to Will Roberts, our lucky winner, who will receive his bottle when we launch in March.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared a dram, and took the time to learn our story. For future updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and details on our upcoming release, keep an eye on our social channels and our newsletter.

BUFFALO TRACE DISTILLERY CELEBRATES FILLING ITS 9 MILLIONTH BARREL OF BOURBON SINCE PROHIBITION
Milestone achieved in record time due in large part to completion of the Distillery’s $1.2 billion expansion project earlier this year
FRANKFORT, KY – In a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and growth, Buffalo Trace Distillery today announces the filling of its nine millionth barrel of bourbon since Prohibition. This historic accomplishment comes on the heels of Buffalo Trace completing its decade long, $1.2 billion expansion project earlier this year, which has allowed the Distillery to achieve this landmark moment on a greatly accelerated timeline vs. prior millionth barrel milestones.
“The filling of our nine millionth barrel represents a historic chapter in the Distillery’s story, which began more than two centuries ago and is still being written today,” said Harlen Wheatley, Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller. “This milestone is exciting not just because we are producing more whiskey than ever before, but because every barrel filled ensures that generations to come will be able to enjoy the same quality and craftsmanship that has defined the Distillery since the 1850’s.”
Bourbon distilling at the site now known as Buffalo Trace Distillery dates back to the 1770s, with formal operations beginning in the 1850s. During Prohibition, the George T. Stagg Distillery (as it was then known) remained one of the few allowed to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes, but official barrel counting began in 1933. Since then, the Distillery has celebrated multiple millionth barrel milestones – the first in 1942, followed by 1953, 1961, 1971, 1981, 2008, 2018, 2022, and now 2025.
“Since official barrel counting began in 1933, each millionth barrel milestone has marked more than just a number: they stand as symbols of heritage, resilience and the timeless pursuit of excellence in bourbon,” said Wheatley. “The Distillery’s resilience was proven once again during the historic flood this past April which touched 90% of the campus. I’m proud of the team for their hard work to ensure Buffalo Trace recovered quickly – after just a few short months we’re 100% back open, operational and welcoming visitors.”

While each millionth barrel reflects centuries of dedication to quality and tradition, the nine millionth marks a particularly significant chapter in Buffalo Trace Distillery’s history. In 2015, Sazerac initiated a $1.2 billion expansion project that touched nearly every facet of operations – from a new distribution center, bottling operation, upgraded cistern room and new boiler, dry, mill and still houses to 20 new fermentation tanks, three steam boilers and 19 new aging warehouses. Completed in January 2025, the project has increased the Distillery’s production capacity by 150%.
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman added, “We are proud to be the birthplace of bourbon, and celebrations like this one remind us that our signature industry is as strong as ever. Buffalo Trace Distillery not only preserves centuries of craftsmanship, but also drives jobs, tourism, and opportunity for families here in Franklin County and across the Commonwealth. Thank you to the leaders at Buffalo Trace for their continued commitment to the Commonwealth and our people.”
Keeping with tradition, the nine millionth barrel will be signed by team members and placed inside Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Warehouse V, the world’s only single barrel warehouse, where it will age until the filling of the ten millionth barrel. Distillery visitors are welcome to view the barrel inside Warehouse V during regular business hours and capture photos of this piece of bourbon history.
A ceremony celebrating this historic milestone was held on Monday, September 29 at 2:00pm ET. On hand to mark the occasion was Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, Franklin County Judge Executive Michael Mueller, Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson and Buffalo Trace Distillery officials, including third generation team member Freddie Johnson whose family has been involved in every millionth barrel since 1942. Photo and video from the ceremony can be found here.
The filling of the nine millionth barrel comes less than three years after the filling of the eight millionth barrel, which happened in December 2022. The Distillery’s seven millionth barrel was filled four years prior to that in 2018.
