Scotch Whisky Auctions “Our 165th auction is now live!” – Auction Whisky News

Our 165th auction, packed to the brim with delicious malts and a veritable cornucopia of alcoholic beverages, has now begun!  We have some amazing drams in the auction this month making it hard to pick out just a few to highlight so keep an eye out for our midweek email where we’ll shine a light on some more.  Here are some of the expressions in the auction which have caught our eye this month, including some particularly impressive Speysides.

First up is a bottle of astounding rarity this is the Balvenie 47 Year Old ‘Morgan’s Reserve’ – One of Eight Bottles.  A bottle so vanishingly rare we thought it best to include its staggeringly low outturn in the title, yes this is one of only eight bottles in existence and as far as we can tell this is the only time this bottle has been available on the secondary market!

A marriage of seven Balvenie casks laid down for the whisky merchant, George Morgan, who originally traded from The Canongate in Edinburgh. Specially selected by his grandchildren, for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations of the Morgan family.

A truly unique bottle of Balvenie indeed and undoubtedly a must have for any serious Balvenie collector.

Staying in Speyside this beautiful bottling is the Linkwood 1956 60 Year Old Cask #20 Private Collection Gordon & MacPhail.  On 3rd January 1956, George Urquhart oversaw the filling of a specially selected European Oak first fill Sherry hogshead with new-make Linkwood spirit and left it to mature until 1968 when it was moved to warehouses in Elgin. Now two generations on, Cask 20 was bottled into fifty-six decanters.  This is an extremely rare 1st fill sherry 1956 single malt, and it is presented in a very special display case with a unique backstory.

Our final distinguished older Speyside selection in this highlight reel is the marvellous Glenfarclas 1953 Single Cask #1682.  Drawn from a single cask this whisky also has a remarkably low outturn with only 97 bottles ever being produced, making this dram a very rare one indeed.  Distilled way back in 1953 this whisky wasn’t bottled until 2012 making the liquid contained within one of the most well-aged Glenfarclas bottles available.  A magnificent single cask bottling this one, from one of Speyside’s biggest hitters.

Finally we have a departure from Speyside but no departure in quality, this is the Springbank 1966 24 Year Old Local Barley #443 75cl.  As if the Local Barley series wasn’t enticing enough this is one from 1966, a near legendary vintage within the Local Barley output.  Fully sherry matured and retaining a hefty 58.1% ABV this is a bucket list dram for many of us Springbank aficionados.  Rich in colour and sporting the rather cool old style Local Barley labelling this is an essential bottling for any serious Springbank collectors out there.

I think we can all agree that those are some mighty fine drams, but we also have a wide range of drams available from more modest drinkers to these more salubrious tipples, so now is the time to delve into this month’s offerings and start building that watchlist.  Best of luck to everyone in the auction, and as always………..don’t lose your bottle.

FEBRUARY 2025 AUCTION ENDS SUNDAY!

It’s that time again, all good things must come to an end and so this month’s auction will draw to a close from 8pm GMT on Sunday 23rd February. There is still time to bid on a selection of old, rare and limited bottlings, including this 1976 Private Bottling by Glenfiddich, number 38 of an unspecified but small release.

Or how about the full set 1-4 of the first instalment of the Glen Garioch Renaissance Chapters, which were released in 2014 to mark the reawakening of one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland in 1997 following a period that the distillery was mothballed. The series also marked a change in the well known peated style of Highland whisky that was associated with the distillery. Each chapter was released annually, all with the same vintage but a year older as the series progressed.

We have a range of bottles distilled in the 1970’s, including this 1978 at Royal Brackla, aged for 20 years before being bottled at a natural Cask strength.

We have a trio of vintage Glen Moray bottlings from the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s, including a 1974 Distiller’s Choice bottling, Signed by distillery manager Ed Dodson, bottle number 397 of only 676 bottles produced.

There is also a selection of House Label bottlings by the highly regarded independent bottlers Gordon and MacPhail.

These are only a few of the old, limited and collectable bottles featured in our February 2025 Auction, to view more wee gems visit clickwhiskyauctions.com. Register to bid. Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it! Auction ends Sunday 23rd February from 8pm GMT.

SAZERAC COMPANY TO HOST CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE RELIEF FUNDRAISER FEATURING THREE ULTRA RARE BOURBON OFFERINGS – American Whiskey news

SAZERAC COMPANY TO HOST CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE RELIEF FUNDRAISER FEATURING THREE ULTRA RARE BOURBON OFFERINGS

Offerings include the first-ever single barrel of Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old, a complete set of the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection and a bottle of Eagle Rare 25 with 100% of proceeds benefitting World Central Kitchen and Another Round Another Rally charities

LOUISVILLE, KY (February 11, 2025)Sazerac Company today announces it will host a first of its kind fundraiser in support of California wildfire relief efforts, offering consumers the chance to purchase three ultra-rare prize packages featuring some of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s most sought-after bourbons. One hundred percent of funds raised through Sazerac’s California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser will go toward two non-profit organizations committed to ongoing relief efforts in the state: World Central Kitchen (WCK), which is working with restaurant and food truck partners in Southern California to provide meals to those in need; and Another Round Another Rally, which is collecting funds for real-time financial support for hospitality workers impacted by the wildfires.

“Our hearts break for those who have been impacted by the devastating wildfires that have swept across California this year,” said Jake Wenz, President and CEO of Sazerac. “The fires have caused immense destruction, and the toll on the Los Angeles community is profound. Through this program we hope, humbly, to offer a small bit of aid to World Central Kitchen and Another Round Another Rally as they continue their much-needed support of the California community during this difficult time.”

Offerings available through the Sazerac California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser include:

  1. Auction*: the first-ever single barrel of Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old will be available for auction as part of the initiative
    1. This is the first single barrel of Pappy Van Winkle to ever be made available for purchase. The barrel was specially selected from the heart of the aging warehouses at Buffalo Trace Distillery for this auction. On average, a single barrel yields approximately 125 bottles of bourbon.
    2. Funds raised via auction will be evenly split between WCK and Another Round Another Rally
  2. Sweepstakes 1**: a complete bottle set of the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection
    1. The very rare, limited-edition Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection features six unique bourbons, each reflective of a craft that blends generational knowledge dating back to the late 1800s. This highly coveted collection features Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 12 Year, Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year, and Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year.
    2. Funds raised by the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection sweepstakes will benefit WCK
  3. Sweepstakes 2**: one bottle of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s ultra-rare Eagle Rare 25
    1. At 25 years old, Eagle Rare 25 marks the oldest expression ever released from the Eagle Rare portfolio and defies existing perception of ultra-aged bourbon with its smooth, complex flavor profile. Eagle Rare 25 is the first bourbon aged in Warehouse P, a purpose-built, state-of-the-art warehouse, constructed to test if it was possible to extend favorably both the aging and maturation processes typical for American whiskey and bourbon.
    2. Funds raised by the Eagle Rare 25 sweepstakes will benefit Another Round Another Rally

In early January, wildfires broke out in the Palisades and Eaton communities of Los Angeles and quickly spread to neighboring communities. It is estimated more than 50,000 acres have burned, with the wildfires destroying more than 16,000 structures and killing at least 28 people. From the beginning, both WCK and ARAR have been on the frontlines in Los Angeles helping the communities hardest hit.

  • WCK’s Relief Team mobilized immediately in Southern California to support first responders and families impacted by the wildfires. In collaboration with 80+ restaurant and food truck partners, WCK is distributing free hot meals to those in need at several locations throughout Southern California. Since the wildfires began in early January, WCK has served more than 600,000 meals to those affected by the wildfires.
  • As the fire’s devastation began to overtake Los Angeles and surrounding areas, Another Round Another Rally jumped into action immediately knowing bar and restaurant workers would face an uphill battle with regard to loss of businesses and loss of income opportunities. Their Disaster Relief Fund enables the organization to provide real-time financial support to hospitality workers impacted by California’s wildfires. In the month since the fires started, Another Round Another Rally has given out over $100k in financial assistance to bar and restaurant workers affected by the disaster.

Those looking to support the Sazerac California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser can participate in multiple ways:

  • For the Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old single barrel auction, bidding will begin at $10,000 and those interested can bid as many times as they wish. Bidding will increase in increments of $1,000. The winner of the auction will receive a monetary prize equal to the value of the lot, which may be used to purchase the bottles yielded from the barrel, as well as the empty barrel.
  • For both the Pappy Van Winkle Collection and Eagle Rare 25 sweepstakes, entrants will receive one entry for every $50 donation made through the registration site. There is no cap on the amount a person can donate. The winners of each sweepstakes will receive a monetary prize equal to the value of the bottle they won, which may be used to purchase the bottles.

The Sazerac California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser begins on Tuesday, February 11 at 12pm noon EST. To enter and make a donation, and to view the full official rules, visit www.sazeracgivesback.com. All entries must be received by 11:59PM EST on Sunday, February 23. One winner for each prize package will be randomly drawn and notified via phone and email the week of March 3.

Killowen Barántúil – Charity Bottling in aid of the Southern Area Hospice – Auction Whisky News

KILLOWEN BARÁNTÚIL
Cask #KD056 Threshing Oats
Charity Bottling for the Southern Area Hospice

88 BOTTLES AVAILABLE

This very special bottling will be exclusively auctioned in aid of the Southern Area Hospice in collaboration with Irish Whiskey Auctions.

Killowen Barántúil – Cask #KD056 – Threshing Oats

These oats were proudly sourced from the Rostrevor & District Vintage Club, harvested and bagged at their Annual Threshing Day in support of the SAHS. Grown and harvested on the slopes of Knock Shee, just a stone’s throw from the distillery, these oats were cultivated by an extraordinary group of people who make significant contributions to their community and the local hospice on an ongoing basis.

The wonderful thing about this bottling is that the oats were commissioned through the Vintage Club, with all proceeds going to the hospice. Now, five years later, the same oats – transformed into whiskey – are being used once again to raise more funds for this worthy cause.

The Southern Hospice, like many others, is in great need of funding and survives through the generous donations and hard work of good people like the Rostrevor & District Vintage Club, as well as you, who will be lucky enough to purchase one of these bottles.

Now on to the whiskey itself! This is proudly an oat led whiskey and does not attempt to enter the realm of Pot Still, instead it stands in a place of it’s own. After initially attempting a 100% Oaten Mash bill, which unfortunately resulted in poor yields, we decided to create a more balanced mash bill that maximises the use of oats, while also achieving a complex flavour profile. The packaging as always will have the specifics on the mash for both consumer empowerment and enjoyment. The cask chosen was an Ex-Kentucky Rye Firkin that had been recouped to 50 Litres and re-charred to a medium toast before filling.

This whiskey is just shy of 5 years old by two weeks, it is a viscous, complex yet balanced whiskey. Creaminess comes to the fore followed by a little warming rye spice and a tiny, subtle hint of peat to create a journey of flavour and mouthfeel that has you wanting to go back in for more.

Auction: 12th Feb – 14th Feb 2025
