Register your casks for the world’s only live, online whisky auction dedicated to casks – Scotch Whisky News

REGISTER YOUR CASKS NOW FOR THE WORLD’S ONLY LIVE, ONLINE WHISKY AUCTION DEDICATED TO CASKS

Auctionyourcask.com is now inviting people to register their casks for auction by 31st July 2020.

The auction, hosted by Cask Trade via its online auction website auctionyourcask.com, will go live on 14thAugust and run until 23rd August 2020.

Following the successful first auction in January, the world’s second live, online auction dedicated to casks of whisky is expected to attract even more sellers and bidders from around the globe.

Those looking to register casks are urged not to delay as they need to be re-gauged, undergo a full health check, document check and a sample sent for entry.

Auctionyourcask.com allows private owners and investors to sell their cask to independent bottlers and other investors all around the world.

Forgotten fortunes

Do you own a cask? Did you or a member of your family purchase a cask 20 years ago? Perhaps you have an heirloom asset. In the first auction, a 1995 Springbank sherry hogshead which was originally bought for £800 in 1995 sold for £45,000.

Trading assets and releasing equity

In these uncertain economic times some people might be looking to trade up their casks, release some equity from their assets, others might have inherited casks and are not sure how to sell them. Sellers have the peace of mind that the process will be handled smoothly and efficiently with a personal point of contact along the way. Sellers also benefit from a 0% seller commission rate on all lots being sold.

Owner of Cask Trade, Simon Aron, says many people are looking to release maturing cask assets. “More and more people are waking up to whisky as a safe haven for investment amid global market chaos,” he says adding: “I am very excited for our second auction following the success of the first when 300 whisky lovers registered and we sent out more than 100 samples around the world.”

Those looking to register their cask for sale should complete an online form to request a valuation. https://www.auctionyourcask.com/request-a-valuation

To sign up to bid in the live auction, register here: https://www.auctionyourcask.com/members/login

The auction, which will go live on 14th August will run until 23rd August (ending 8pm GMT), will feature a wide selection of casks at different price points.

All casks will need to have had a recent re-gauge ready for auction and a full 70cl sample will be drawn so that bidders have the opportunity, wherever possible, to try the whisky before they buy. Auction your cask validate all the sellers and confirm proof of ownership and the history of the cask enabling bidders to safely buy. With complete transparency and no sellers’ fee Cask Trade can offer bidders the actual hammer price. Their low buyers’ fee of 15% + VAT will offer the opportunity to buyers, trade or private, to buy rare casks.

Hosted four times a year the next auction will take place in November 2020.

NOTES:

Founded in 2018 by Simon Aron in partnership with several of the world’s foremost whisky masters, including Keeper of the Quaich Sir Colin Hampden-White, Cask Trade buys and sells exceptional cask whiskies. The company is unique because it only sells casks it owns outright, and it only sells whole casks: it is not a whisky cask broker and it does not offer fractional sales.

A passionate whisky collector for more than 20 years, Simon Aron suffered many false promises from whisky investment companies and this drove his ambition to create a real and trustworthy market place for whisky collectors and investors, and bottlers:

The company’s casks are held in the best HMRC bonded warehouses, regularly visited and approved by Cask Trade whisky masters. All stock holdings have a complete paper trail.

  • Delivery orders from supplier to Cask Trade
  • Invoices for transfer of ownership, storage insurance, re-gauging, sampling or movement
  • HMRC-issued WOWGR (warehouse keepers, warehouse premises, owner of goods and registered consigners): a fully regulated and closely monitored license requiring due diligence on suppliers as well as customers.
  • HMRC-issued AWRS Alcohol Wholesaler Registration Scheme: Licenced to wholesale, bottle and retail.

Included in its extensive list of customer services, Cask Trade’s rigorous processes means that the company will guarantee to buy back from its clients the casks they buy from and have had managed by Cask Trade. It also offers…

  • Regular sampling and re-gauging of casks
  • Re-racking (sherry wine, port etc)
  • Estimates of bottles and strength in cask (effects of angels’ share 0ver years of maturations)
  • Financial modelling for each cask based on age and rarity with estimated % returns
  • Costings for bottling, labelling and shipping (duty & tax)
  • Regularly updated whisky investment guide which includes statistics from two authoritative third parties      (independent of Cask Trade)
  • Cask Trade will arrange for clients to receive samples of their whiskies and visit their barrels(s), upon request – wherever possible.

RARE WHITE BOWMORE-43 YEAR OLD-1964 LEADS BONHAMS WHISKY SALE IN EDINBURGH

White Bowmore-43 year old-1964. Estimate: £10,000 – 13,000

A rare bottle of White Bowmore-43 year old-1964 leads Bonhams live behind-closed-doors whisky sale at 22 Queen Street, Edinburgh on Wednesday 10 June. It is estimated at £10,000-13,000.

The bottle comes in a presentation case and is numbered 216 of a limited edition of 732. The whisky was distilled in Bowmore’s famous No One vaults on Guy Fawkes day, 5 November, 1964 in three bourbon casks which has given it an unusually light colour and accounts for the distinctive name, Bowmore White.  It is said to have the scent of tropical fruits, and a palette of pine, vanilla and honey.

Bonhams whisky specialist in Edinburgh Martin Green said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to harness new technology to present a sale in these difficult times and to maintain the quality and choice for which our whisky auctions are renowned. Our leading lot, the White Bowmore-43 year old-1964, seldom appears on the market and I am expecting interest from collectors around the world.”

Other highlights include:

·         A bottle of Black Bowmore-1964. The First Edition, bottled in 1993. Estimate: £5,000-9,000.

·         A bottle of Glenfiddich-47 year old-1964. Estimate: £5.000-7,000.

‘Distilled’, Sotheby’s First Spirits Online Sale of 2020 in London, Totals £1.5 Million / $1.8 Million – Scotch Whisky News

‘Distilled’, Sotheby’s First Spirits Online Sale of 2020 in London, Totals £1.5 Million / $1.8 Million

– New Auction Record for Any Bottle of Whisky Produced by the Dalmore Distillery –

– Almost Half of the Buyers were New to Sotheby’s and 42% of Bidders were Under 40 Years Old –

LONDON, 29 MAY 2020: Distilled | Iconic Samaroli, Dalmore 62, an online sale showcasing some of the most collectable bottles across all major spirits categories, closed yesterday, raising a total of £1,495,459 / $1,822,665 (est. £1.1-1.6 million).

A new world record for any bottle of whisky produced by the Dalmore Distillery sold at auction was duplicated in rapid succession with the two lots that closed the sale. Two bottles of The Dalmore 62 Year Old – one of the oldest whiskies to have been released from the distillery, with only 12 bottles made available – sold for £266,200 / $324,445 each, to separate Asian private collectors. Bottles #2, “The Mackenzie” and Bottle #5, “The Cromarty”, exceeded their low estimated price of £75,000 per bottle by three-and-a-half times.

Jonny Fowle continued: “Rare and collectible whisky is exemplified by the Dalmore 62 Year Old, and we are delighted to have set a new record for the most valuable Dalmore ever sold at auction. Having not one, but two of these bottles in a single sale made history and the outstanding result achieved on both bottles shows that the market for whisky collecting is very much alive.”

A bottle of The Macallan 50 Year Old Anniversary Malt proved tempting to bidders, selling for £84,700 / $103,232 (est. £70,000-100,000). While it bears an age statement of 50 years, this whisky was distilled in 1928 and bottled in 1983, meaning it is actually 54 or 55 years old. A low abv of 38.6%, below the minimum requirement for modern day whisky of 40%, makes it a truly unusual gem.

An important Italian collection of Samaroli brought a combined total of £314,519 / $383,336, led by two bottles of Bowmore Bouquet 1966 which sold for £42,350 / $51,616 each. Widely regarded as some of the greatest whiskies ever produced, Silvano Samaroli’s bottles are now extremely scarce, with the most valued bottles, such as the Bowmore Bouquet, rarely seen more than once a year at auction.

Statistics on Bidders & Buyers: Participants hailed from 25 countries, with an average of four bids per lot. Almost one half of the buyers were new to Sotheby’s, and 42% of bidders in the sale were under 40 years old. Sotheby’s online sales so far this year have broken the $100 million barrier, with 77 sales in 2020 bringing a total of $129 million, and a third of bidders and buyers new to Sotheby’s. A further forty online auctions are planned for June.
