Glenrothes “Our 2020 Highlights” – Scotch Whisky News

2020: A Year In Review

We don’t need to tell you it’s been a hard year, but we’re no strangers to turbulent times. From big milestones to new beginnings, 2020 has still given us plenty of highlights and moments worth celebrating. Join us as we look back on what’s been a memorable year here at The Glenrothes.

Back To It

After lockdown, we finally got back to doing what we do best. We made sure to implement safer ways of working, as the buzz around the distillery returned and the stills began to sing once more.

A New Arrival

Laura Rampling became our new Master Whisky Maker, bringing with her a wealth of expertise and an amazing nose for detail.

A Historic Launch

October saw the release of a milestone half a century in the making, as we launched our first ever 50 Year Old, a salute to the loyalty and craft of our distillery team.

We also celebrated our distillery manager reaching 40 years in the industry, and picked up several awards at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. We hope, as you look back on your 2020, you’ve had some moments to celebrate as well.

Here’s to a much smoother 2021. Happy Holidays!

Hard To Find Whisky “Distillery Focus – Glengoyne” – Scotch Whisky News

Founded in 1833, Glengoyne is a small family owned distillery built under Dumgoyne, a prominent hill around 10 miles north of Glasgow. Although officially located in the Scottish Highlands, its warehouses, directly across the road, lie in the Lowlands. Gentle heating of the stills ensures that distillations are long and slow, resulting in a gentle, sweet, fruity spirit that is often filled into ex-Sherry casks.

Glengoyne Single Malt is always unpeated, and is typically soft, smooth, and approachable. Older ex-Sherry cask matured whiskies are rich, sweet, and generously fruity. Glengoyne Distillery has relaunched its range for 2020 with a brand new packaging design across their award winning Single Malts.

Upgraded James B. Beam Distilling Co. Visitor Experience to Open Summer 2021 – American Whiskey News

Upgraded James B. Beam Distilling Co. Visitor Experience to Open Summer 2021

CLERMONT, KY, – The James B. Beam Distilling Co., the producer of the world’s #1 bourbon and leader in premium bourbon innovation, expects to unveil an elevated consumer experience on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in late summer 2021. Moving forward, the James B. Beam Distilling Co. will pair its historic commitment to genuine bourbon with an eye on the future to allow consumers to enjoy all its brands. This new experience will embody the Beam family ethos, honor and celebrate its 225-year legacy in bourbon, and showcase an ambition for the future of American whisky with a craft distillery and cutting-edge partnerships.

“We are so proud of our history and are thrilled to honor it through this new experience to best tell the stories of our family and the craft that we have such immense passion for,” said Freddie Noe, 8th generation Beam Distiller. “We are excited about the future and the impact we can have on the industry, and I can’t wait to give visitors an inside look at how we do things the Beam way, and to also have a hand in educating the next generation, too.”

Visitors can expect a truly immersive experience, featuring the full Beam Distilling family of brands, from Jim Beam®  the world’s #1 selling bourbon, Bourbon to small-batch icons such as Booker’s®, Baker’s®, Basil Hayden’s® and Knob Creek®, and recent innovations including Little Book® and Legent™. They will also be offered one-of-a-kind opportunities to better understand the “Beam Way” of making bourbon and get a glimpse at the industry’s future.

The James B. Beam Distilling Co.  has long been a leader on the Bourbon Trail®, and the new experience will offer expanded educational, historical, and culinary delights, giving loyal fans more reasons to visit more often.

“For 225 years, we have been the author of our own destiny and have charted a new course for bourbon, as industry pioneers of quality, craftsmanship, and innovation,” said Albert Baladi, President & CEO, Beam Suntory. “We will be excited to re-open our doors in a post-pandemic environment. Our new visitor experience, including the craft distillery, will set us up for success in the next 225 years as we continue to be the definitive voice in bourbon, both in Kentucky and globally.”

New visitor experience features will include:

The American Outpost – Replacing the American Stillhouse, this unique visitor and retail center will honor the James B. Beam Distilling Co.’s past. The original American Outpost was the first retail visitor experience in 1981, selling Jim Beam® merchandise. The American Outpost will also feature new tasting rooms, offering a more complete experience for the family of brands.

The Kitchen Table – Inspired by the Noe family kitchen table, where generations have enjoyed bourbon and shared meals, The Kitchen Table will champion local farmers and producers. Visitors can take in the stunning views and unwind with world-class food and cocktails in this 5,000 square ft. restaurant and gathering space.

“Beam Made Bourbon,” – This immersive consumer tour is a visual educational experience showcasing how to make bourbon the “Beam Way,” and a stop in the Distillate Room, highlighting each brand’s unique distillation levers that help shape its character.

Fred B. Noe Craft Distillery – The new home for small-batch and next-generation whiskies will also serve as a functional production facility to explore new fermentation and distillation techniques. Named after Seventh Generation Master Distiller Fred Noe, the craft distillery will offer distillation process sessions with Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Beam Distiller, hands-on activities in the blending lab, a tasting bar and a state-of-the-art classroom for the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits.

The company also plans to reimagine its consumer experience in Louisville.  While the James B. Beam Distilling Co. focuses on completion of this important work in Clermont, the Jim Beam® Urban Stillhouse in Louisville will close. Beam Suntory looks forward to bringing a bigger and better consumer experience to a new location in Louisville in the future.  The company’s commitment to Kentucky remains strong as it focuses on a fully immersive experience for the full Beam family of brands.

Johnnie Walker launches vision to plant one million trees in Scotland – Scotch Whisky News

Johnnie Walker launches vision to plant one million trees in Scotland

As people around the world prepare to embrace the season of goodwill, Johnnie Walker announces a special gift for the home of Scotch Whisky

Johnnie Walker has launched a vision to plant one million trees across the four corners of Scotland before 2025. This comes as part of an ongoing commitment to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint and restore the natural resources used to create the award-winning range of Scotch Whiskies.

“Scotland is our homeland. It is where our journey began 200 years ago and it’s at the heart of everything that makes our whiskies so special. As we throw open the doors to the next 200 years of our journey, we want to take positive strides forward to nourish and protect the wild Scottish landscapes and pristine natural resources that have shaped our whiskies for generations.”

Julie BramhamGlobal Brand Director for Johnnie Walker

Ewan AndrewDiageo Chief Sustainability Officer

To date, 389,000 of the one million trees have been planted near two of our distilleries in the Scottish Highlands. Over the lifetime of this project, these trees are anticipated to absorb over 69,000 tonnes of C02 – the equivalent of taking 10,500 flights around the world or driving almost half a million times from London to Edinburgh.

At Ballygowan, near Oban distillery, the investment funded the planting of native birch, oak, wild cherry, willow and hazel trees and includes a new tree dedicated to every one of Diageo’s 28,000 employees, in partnership with Lupi Moll, Environmental Entrepreneur and Owner of Inverlonan Estates. At Allt Ruadh, near Glen Ord distillery, Johnnie Walker has joined forces with Trees for Life to plant ancient and native trees which will serve as a vital wildlife corridor and increase habitat availability for species including black grouse, crossbills and red squirrels.

“Without the investment by Johnnie Walker in Ballygowan, the woodland would not have been possible and the broader public and ecological benefits undelivered. We look forward very much to working with Johnnie Walker over the next 100 years, delivering together a biodiverse-rich, sustainable woodland of which everyone can be proud and helping them in their push to create the most sustainable whisky in the world.”

Lupi MollEnvironmental Entrepreneur and Owner of Inverlonan Estates

“Rewilding is an investment in a future in which wildlife can flourish and communities can thrive. Johnnie Walker’s contribution to the Trees for Life Allt Ruadh project exemplifies this approach. Their support recognises the critical part our wild places play in restoring nature, reversing the climate and biodiversity crises and ultimately creating a landscape in better health for future generations.”

Steve MicklewrightCEO of Trees for Life

The Johnnie Walker tree planting commitment follows the recent announcement of Diageo’s Society 2030: Spirit of Progress sustainability plan, which includes ambitious environmental goals such as being net zero emissions from all direct operations by 2030 with all distilleries powered by 100% green energy by 2030.
