More than a simple narrative of the origins and impact of Jack Daniel’s, the documentary joins Tim Matheson, Shooter Jennings, Eric Church, John Grisham, Tina Sinatra and more, on a 57,000 mile journey across five countries and 17 time zones that is equal parts thought provoking, insightful, moving and hilarious.

Tickets for “Chasing Whiskey” can be purchased starting Friday, February 21, at www.FathomEvents.com and participating theater box offices.

Fathom Events and Movie City Films, in association with Evolve Studios, present “Chasing Whiskey” in more than 850 U.S. movie theaters on Monday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. local time, through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). “Our filmmaking journey proved that Jack Daniel’s is easily the most iconic whiskey brand in the world. No matter where we went – from Tennessee to Japan to Cuba to the outback of Australia – and even Scotland – we always found someone who had a compelling, personal story to tell about Jack. It’s become part of popular culture everywhere,” said director Greg Olliver. “With unprecedented access that was given to us by Jack Daniel’s, we uncovered surprising stories that began even before Jack started making his own whiskey. We’re proud to present this insightful, whiskey-soaked adventure that tells the story of Jack that’s been 150+ years in the making.”

From the small town of Lynchburg, Tennessee, where every drop of Jack Daniel’s is made, to the outback of Australia, from Beverly Hills to the streets of Havana, Cuba, “Chasing Whiskey” documents a cultural exploration into why a world of people identifies with a distinctly American brand. Through it all, Jack Daniel’s serves as the compass on a journey that offers a unique glimpse into humanity, shared values and differing views, dreams and delusions.

Bimber announces the release of distillery exclusives – English Whisky News

Bimber announces the release of distillery exclusives

Four limited edition releases will be available for visitors to purchase at the distillery from Thursday 20th February

Three single cask expressions: Sherry Cask, Virgin Cask and Peated Finish will be joined by a small batch release of the distillery’s new make spirit

Bimber, which was recently named ‘Craft Producer of the Year’ at the 2020 World Whisky Awards, today announced the release of its first distillery exclusive bottlings.

Three single cask expressions all bottled with natural colour and no chill-filtration will be available from Thursday 20th February for visitors to the distillery to purchase, alongside bottles of ‘filling strength’ new make spirit.

Sherry Cask #34 was laid down in 2016, Bimber’s first year of production and is bottled at 53.9% ABV. 65 bottles are available at a price of £80.00.

Virgin Cask #28, also from 2016, has been matured in American oak and is bottled at 53.1% ABV. 70 bottles are available at a price of £75.00.

Peated Finish #64PF is Bimber’s first ‘finished’ whisky release. Following an initial maturation in ex-bourbon the liquid was transferred to an ex-Islay quarter cask for one year of additional maturation and then bottled at 54.2% ABV. 100 bottles are available at a price of £75.00.

New Make Batch 172 has been produced to meet the high levels of interest from enthusiasts for exploring Bimber’s light and fruity spirit character before it begins its maturation journey. 100 bottles of this initial batch have been produced. They are bottled at ‘filling strength’ 63.5% ABV and are available at a price of £38.00.

Each of the distillery exclusive expressions were crafted to Bimber’s exacting standards. The spirit was produced from the distillery’s single farm barley and malted on a dedicated floor at Warminster Maltings before being fermented for seven days in bespoke, on-site constructed American oak washbacks. Distillation took place in Bimber’s customised stills, which possess an increased copper surface area, resulting in a light and fruity, but layered new make spirit.

Speaking of the distillery exclusive releases, Founder and Master Distillery Darius said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer visitors to Bimber three truly special single casks bottlings to take home after finishing their tours of our distillery. These casks were selected by the team because of their reflection of our naturally fruit-forward style, but also as a demonstration of the remarkable versatility of our single malt whisky. Whilst the three casks offer a diverse array of aromas and flavours, Bimber’s spirit character runs strongly throughout each release.”

He added: “Throughout 2019 we received many requests to bottle our new make spirit. We’re therefore thrilled to now offer distillery visitors a spotlight on our house style before our spirit has been laid down for maturation.”

Midleton Very Rare introduce the oldest ever Irish whiskey collection, Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection – Irish Whiskey News

Midleton Very Rare introduce the oldest ever Irish whiskey collection,
Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection
A new chapter for Irish luxury

February 2020 sees the launch of the first release from Ireland’s oldest ever whiskey collection. Midleton Very Rare, renowned as the Pinnacle of Irish Whiskey, is produced in Midleton Distillery, Co. Cork, Ireland and the Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection is a collection of six releases. The first is a 45-year-old Irish single malt. There will be one release annually until the year 2025, ranging in age from 45 to 50 years old, all from the fabled Old Midleton Distillery (operating 1825-1975). The last release will coincide with Old Midleton Distillery’s 200th birthday.

A ‘silent’ distillery is one that has closed its doors and been lost to ages past, achieving almost mythical status. As rumours of this ‘unicorn’ whiskey swirl around the whiskey world, these precious bottlings have become highly sought after by whiskey enthusiasts. A traditional distillery, Old Midleton Distillery was famous throughout the world for Irish whiskey, but when it closed its doors for the last time in 1975, it became an iconic part of Irish distilling legend.

While other silent distilleries have re-opened and been brought back to life, Old Midleton has been fully decommissioned and will never produce again. Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Chapter One will be the first official release from Old Midleton Distillery in 16 years and the collection represents some of the last drops of this inimitable spirit before the distillery closed its doors forever.

When the spirit for Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter One was laid down in 1974 under Master Distiller Emeritus Max Crockett, a year before the closure of Old Midleton Distillery, it was part of a series of innovative trials never to be released or repeated. Crockett’s experimentation with peated single malt whiskey from 1964 to 1974 will come to light for the very first time through this release which paves the way for new beginnings in the world of ultra-rare, luxury Irish whiskey.

Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter One is the only release in this collection to have been created as a peated single malt – pure innovation for Irish whiskey at the time, and rare still today. Decades in the making, the third-fill sherry cask cask that has influenced this whiskey has been lying dormant for 45 years. This makes it one of the world’s rarest whiskeys by its very nature. The cask contributes notes of ripe honeydew melon, red berries and sweet spices of toasted oak.

Master Distiller Emeritus Barry Crockett, son of Max Crockett, recalls sourcing the peat for this 45 year old expression, which will be the last peated whiskey ever from Old Midleton Distillery. During this time, Barry was learning his trade from his father, Max Crockett, the ‘forefather’ of modern-day Irish whiskey. In recent years it has been the work of Master Distiller Brian Nation to monitor, sample and determine the ideal bottling time for this rare whiskey laid down by his predecessors. Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection represents a unique opportunity to taste the work of three legends.

Staying true to its proud Irish heritage and luxury craftsmanship, Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Chapter One will be decanted into handblown and etched crystal decanter bottles, produced by Ireland’s Waterford Crystal, with each of the bottles individually numbered. The bottle comes displayed in a wooden cabinet handcrafted by Irish designer, John Galvin, using wood up to 200 years old from ancient reclaimed whiskey vats. This further cements Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection as the ideal treasure for any whiskey enthusiast.

Barry Crockett, Master Distiller Emeritus: “It’s remarkable that 45 years on we could even be speaking about a whiskey which was distilled in the very final period of the Old Midleton Distillery. It is the ultimate heirloom and memento of the dedication to precise malt preparation, brewing and distillation skills of generations of distillers at Midleton. Furthermore, it’s among the very last remaining whiskey distilled through the largest pot still in the world, a skill which in its own right required great refinement of the distiller’s art.”

Brian Nation, Master Distillers at Irish Distillers: “One of the most wonderous parts of my job is that I am often responsible for safekeeping the legacy of another. For many years now, my colleagues and I have been caring for the work of Max and Barry Crockett, to determine the optimum time to share it with the world. The team at Midleton Distillery is extremely proud that the time has finally come to introduce the Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection.”

NOTES:

RRP: €35,000, £32,000, $40,000
ABV: 51.2%
Availability: 48 750ml bottles in Ireland, UK, France and US

Two bottles will be sold via ballot system on The 1825 Room, the Midleton Very Rare online members’ programme. Whiskey lovers can register their interest to be entered into a lottery to purchase a bottle from 9pm on 18th February for one week.

Tasting notes by Master Distiller Brian Nation

Nose: The first impression is very rich with deep, dark spices on a satisfying antique oak base. An earthy note of freshly cut peat, along with chamois leather, is lifted by a twist of grapefruit. The very old sherry wine seasoned hogshead cask contributes a touch of ripe honeydew melon and red berries as well as the sweet spices of toasted oak.

Taste: Instantly rich with the initial peppery spices slowly softening as the influence of the malted barley shows through. Liquorice root, barley sugar and honey bring some sweetness, just given a little edge by a touch of sherbet. All build on a solid foundation of toasted oak.

Finish: The rich spices and malted barley are slow to fade.

About Midleton Very Rare

Midleton Very Rare is the ultimate expression of craftsmanship from Midleton Distillery. Created in 1984, by Master Distiller Emeritus Barry Crockett, only two Master Distillers have had the privilege of preserving its legacy.

Once a year, Master Distiller Brian Nation hand-selects the finest and rarest whiskeys from the inventory of Midleton Distillery before blending them to create a true whiskey masterpiece, often referred to as the ‘pinnacle of Irish whiskey’. The artistry and expertise of the cask selection process for Midleton Very Rare’s annual vintage ensures that only the finest whiskeys bear the prestigious name. The 1825 Room, an online membership platform giving exclusive access to rare releases and insights into the world’s most sought-after Irish whiskey, invites whiskey enthusiasts to learn more about the other expressions in the range. Namely the Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach series, which derives its name from ‘Irish Oak’ as the first Irish whiskey to be finished in virgin Irish Oak, and Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy, a tribute to an iconic figure both in the history of both Midleton Distillery and Irish whiskey. The milestone barrel was filled and sealed by family distillers Fred Noe, 7th Generation Master Distiller, and his son Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Beam Distiller, in Clermont, Kentucky.

It’s humbling that we get to fill our 16 millionth barrel as we kick off our 225th anniversary. This milestone speaks to our eight-generation commitment to never compromising on quality and always staying true to our roots,” said Fred Noe, 7th Generation Master Distiller, James B. Beam Distilling Co. “Celebrating 225 years and looking back at my family’s story in Kentucky, we’re not raising a glass to our past but for the 225 years to come! I’m looking forward to the next chapter of bringing more people together over great Bourbon for another 225 years.

The Beam family has always been committed to quality; making Bourbon the Beam way, not just quickly; and staying true to its deep roots. This milestone underscores the James B. Beam Distilling Co.’s steadfast commitment to family, leadership and quality. Most recently the company committed to invest more than $60 million in Clermont to build the Fred B. Noe Craft Distillery and create a new visitor experience that encompasses the entire family of brands, from Jim Beam to Knob Creek, Booker’s, Baker’s and Basil Hayden’s, to the next generation brands like Little Book and Legent.

“Jim Beam is a Kentucky brand recognized around the world – a key reason Kentucky just became the nation’s leading exporter of whiskey,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “This is an exciting time for Beam and for one of Kentucky’s signature industries. Thank you to the Noe family for inviting me to participate in this historic day and for their commitment to Clermont, to Kentucky and to good Bourbon.”

As part of its focus on the future, the James B. Beam Distilling Co. has established a Natural Water Sanctuary Alliance at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest to protect the pristine limestone water that give its Bourbons their incredible flavor. The company has also donated $5 million to the University of Kentucky to establish the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits to educate the Bourbon industry’s next generation, and research ways to distill more efficiently, and more sustainably.

“This is an incredible time to be in the Bourbon industry, especially given the category’s global growth and continued innovation changing the landscape,” said Malini Patel, Managing Director, James B. Beam Distilling Co. “Since the James B. Beam Distilling Co. makes nearly half of the Bourbon produced in the state of Kentucky, we don’t take our leadership position lightly. People from Tokyo to Frankfurt, from Moscow to Sydney are embracing Bourbon and we’re dedicated to doing our part to continue growing this incredible industry for another 225 years to come.”

There are many ways to experience the James B. Beam Distilling Co. firsthand. Take a tour of the American Stillhouse and see the 16 millionth barrel on display in Warehouse Two. Events, signature cocktails, and tastings are also available at our distillery in Clermont, Kentucky or stop into the Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse in Louisville for a tasting or an expertly crafted cocktail.

The Famous Grouse overtakes Jack Daniel’s to become Britain’s No.1 Whisky by Value – Scotch Whisky News

The Famous Grouse overtakes Jack Daniel’s to become Britain’s No.1 Whisky by Value

Sales topped £71m over Christmas

Value grew +2.6% compared to the year previous

No.1 whisky in the No.1 spirits category with total whisky sales larger than both gin and vodka at £393m

The Famous Grouse enjoyed an outstanding Christmas in the UK off-trade, with sales topping £71m – making it the number one whisky in the UK.*

The whisk(e)y category in total was valued at £393 million, larger than both vodka and gin making The Famous Grouse the number one whisky in the number one category this Christmas.*

While The Famous Grouse has a long-standing streak as the UK’s favourite whisky, the brand has returned to No.1 Whisk(e)y by value this Christmas.  The Scotch blend reports +2.6% value growth over the festive period compared to the previous year, in turn, overtaking Jack Daniel’s. The US whiskey had held the top spot in 2018 but saw value drop -9.3%.

The news comes despite the wider blended Scotch category continuing to struggle, with value down -4.1% over Christmas.

Mark Riley, managing director, at Edrington-Beam Suntory UK says: “The Famous Grouse for years has been the UK’s favourite whisky and driving force behind the blended Scotch category, so we are delighted to have reclaimed our number one spot in the UK’s largest spirits category.

“It’s fantastic to see a Scotch back in the top spot, particularly for The Famous Grouse, where success has been driven by our strong equity, premiumisation and increased demand for smaller bottle sizes.”
