68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley – a notable wheated mashbill from a classic brand. The high wheat proportion delivers big time on that rich, soft, and round profile the style is famous for. This two pack allows for comparison between the extremely coveted Larceny Barrel Proof (release C921 specifically – 122.6 proof) and the massively underrated Larceny Small Batch – 92 proof – a should be staple on any wheated Bourbon lovers bar. The list of accolades for the barrel proof are lengthy – 98 points from IWSC, Double Gold from SF Spirits Comp, Whiskey of the Year from Whiskey Advocate in 2020, and many others. While it is definitely overshadowed by its bigger brother, the small batch is no slouch either. It has garnered multiple double golds (including SIP and TAG), SF Gold, and a huge 95 point score from Ultimate Spirits.

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Fall 2022 Edition of the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Series – Scotch Whisky News

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Fall 2022 Edition of the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Series

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the release of the Fall 2022 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey at 19 years old, the oldest to date in this specific line. Comprised of barrels produced in September 2003, and bottled in October of 2022, the tenth national release ushers in the latest edition to the hallmark series which adds to the bottled-in-bond legacy.

Bottled in an ornate decanter, the fall edition denotes a black label, consistent across all fall releases. As was the case for the past editions, this edition’s tax strip, which has always been a signature of transparency on bottled-in-bond products, will disclose when the liquid was produced and bottled. The Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond fall edition will be available in the 750ml size on an allocated basis. It meets the strict requirements of a bottled-in-bond: the product of a single distillery from a single distilling season, aged a minimum of four years, and bottled at 100 proof or 50% alcohol by volume. This edition is available at the suggested retail price of $240.

The Fall 2022 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the first 19-year-old of the nationally released series and features Bourbon pulled from across three floors of rickhouse F and one floor of rickhouse X at Heaven Hill Distillery’s main campus. As a leader of the Bottled-in-Bond category, Heaven Hill is proud to offer a premium product within this special class that showcases the authenticity and quality of the American Whiskey portfolio. Acquired in 1999 by Heaven Hill, the legendary Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree and intriguing story behind its namesake, John E. Fitzgerald, whose legacy is also heralded by the Larceny Bourbon brand.

Whistle Pig 10 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey – American Whiskey News

Whistle Pig 10 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey (750ml)

$72.99

View

SKU #105953196 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark First, a warning: this is only for those who like their rye big and brawny. It starts off innocuously with a maple-syrup color, and a pretty, complex and subtle scent: honey, vanilla, a slight medicinal tinge and faint clover notes. It feels silky on the tongue and at first, the flavors reflect caramel, burnt orange and a whisper of smoke, but then a mouth-warming wave of tannic bite sweeps over all and lingers for a good long time. Straight up or on the rocks. (KN) Inner quote mark (11/2010)

Whisky Advocate

Outer quote mark Imported from Canada (which suggests that maybe this whiskey was originally intended to be the flavoring component of a Canadian whisky?) and bottled in Vermont. This is a 100% unmalted rye whiskey (much higher than other traditional straight rye whiskeys). Indeed, this whiskey bleeds spices (especially brisk mint, vibrant clove, and teasing nutmeg), but there’s a rich, sweet foundation to balance it all (honeyed vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, and nutty toffee), along with candied citrus and charcoal. Bold, spicy, nutty toffee, butterscotch finish. Very distinctive, and probably a polarizing whiskey. (JH, fall 2010) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

Whistle Pig Farm is a distillery in Shoreham, Vermont, run by David Pickerell, who served as master distiller at Maker’s Mark for more than a decade. While most distilleries produce a white dog, or young whiskey to pay the bills while their good stuff ages, David went out and found a few barrels of something we’d actually want to drink. His new bottling of 100% Canadian-distilled rye aged in the American style is going to impress just about every whiskey fan out there. This rye is for big flavor hunters in the traditinon of Stagg, Van Winkle and Handy. The nose is rich and enticing and the color of the whiskey itself is a dark amber that just looks like its loaded with caramel and barrel spice. The first sip lets you know that it actually is–this rye is brimming with vanilla, orange peel and other baking spices. This is a big, mouth-coating rye that finishes long and creamy, but never loses the kick of the rye itself. This is going to be huge, mark my words. (David Driscoll, K&L Spirits buyer)

Whisky Wednesday Reviews BenRiach 40YO Octave Cask – Scotch Whisky News

https://youtu.be/VhfHvY47PX4

It isn’t often that I get to review two 40YO whiskies in the same year! But here we are, this time with a rather unusual Benriach 40YO Octave finish. Distilled in 1976, recasked in 2011 and then bottled in 2017 – this whisky has spent its whole life in ex-bourbon casks in some way, shape, or form. The octave cask it was finished in was constructed from refil and first fill bourbon staves. Producing 137 bottles, ten of them are available as a unique set, along with a 40YO peated BenRiach via Blockbar. Please see the link below for further information on this rather limited release.

GlenAllachie 21yo Batch 3 – Scotch Whisky News

GLENALLACHIE ROLLS OUT

THIRD BATCH OF 21-YEAR-OLD

The celebrated Speyside distillery introduces Batch Three of

its revered aged cask strength single malt

After a year of 50th anniversary celebrations for its veteran Master Distiller, Billy Walker, The GlenAllachie Distillery today launches a third iteration of one of its oldest core range expressions: The GlenAllachie 21-year-old Cask Strength Batch 3 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Batch 3 (UK RRSP £275), a very limited global release of 2,400 bottles, follows in the footsteps of highly sought-after previous instalments of the annual expression.

The new ultra-premium small-batch Scotch whisky marries single malt matured in three vintage Pedro Ximénez Sherry puncheons.

Each cask was personally selected and expertly blended by industry leader, Walker, who over the course of his 50-year-long career has earnt recognition for demonstrating exceptional wood management capabilities and peerless sensory instinctiveness.

Chosen from the Speyside-based distillery’s enviable inventory of over 50,000 casks held on-site, the Spanish Sherry casks have imparted bold and complex flavour attributes, joining the distinctive heather honey character of The GlenAllachie’s house style.

The antique walnut-hued liquid is said to deliver refined qualities of “black grapes, fresh espresso, brandy butter and stem ginger, leading to indulgent dark chocolate fondant”.

Encased in a luxurious suedette-lined pine green box with gold foil detailing, the whisky was bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.5% ABV, with no added colour and without undergoing chill filtration.

Commenting on this latest launch, Walker said:

“Whisky is a waiting game, and after years of careful planning, I never tire of the anticipation; it’s pure excitement. Each and every cask at the distillery is regularly monitored to ensure we bottle the very best whisky available for each expression. This is what led me to pick these three richly seasoned Sherry puncheons to create this new batch of our 21-year-old. The outcome is a multifaceted drinking experience that exudes sheer elegance. A whisky that I will sip and savour at the end of this milestone year.”

The launch coincides with the release of the next batch of The GlenAllachie’s multi-award-winning 10-year-old Cask Strength offering: Batch 8 (UK RRSP £65). Presented at a punchy 57.2% ABV, the spirit boasts “intense waves of cinnamon spice, comforting mocha, honeycomb and candied walnuts”.

Both The GlenAllachie 21-year-old Cask Strength Batch 3 (UK RRSP £275) and 10-year-old Cask Strength Batch 8 (UK RRSP £65) will become increasingly available over the coming weeks from specialist retailers worldwide.

ABOUT GLENALLACHIE:

One of Scotland’s few independently owned and managed distilleries, The GlenAllachie is led by industry veteran, Billy Walker, who boasts a 50-year tenure in whisky. With an emphasis on wood policy, The GlenAllachie’s cask budget for 2022 stands at an eye-watering £2m/$2.6m. With 16 on-site warehouses holding over 50,000 casks, we have complete control of the end-to-end maturation process.

The GlenAllachie focusses on quality over quantity, which is why we chose to reduce our production capacity from 4million to around 800,000 Litres of Alcohol and increase our fermentation period to 160 hours for an ester rich, fruity spirit.

We believe age and integrity matter, which is why all our whiskies carry an age statement, and are bottled at a minimum of 46% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered for maximum flavour experience.

Our other brands are MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits – encompassing Lum Reek Blended Malt Scotch Whisky and Exploration Rum – and White Heather Blended Scotch Whisky.
