Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 467: Linkwood 13 Year Old 2008 Liquid Art

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, tries an independent Linkwood. His good friends at Liquid Art have found another single cask that they considered bottle-worthy. And it must be, for this is a Linkwood from 2008 that was allowed to spend it’s hibernation on a bourbon cask. Mark will put this pale Speysider to the test with great pleasure.

CHIVAS BROTHERS UNVEILS NEW-LOOK FACILITIES AT ITS KILMALID SITE IN CELEBRATION OF CONVIVIALITY AND COLLABORATION

Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard, has unveiled its newly refurbished Leven office at its world-class Kilmalid bottling facility in Dumbarton – which stands as Pernod Ricard’s biggest bottling plant producing 26 million cases a year. Demonstrating Chivas Brothers’ continued investment in its people and communities, the new-look building has been designed to bring more colleagues together to enjoy connection, creativity, and conviviality.

The major overhaul to the Leven office boasts a modern on-site speciality coffee bar, restaurant and lounge for colleagues to enjoy, as well as vibrant and flexible open plan workspaces with break out rooms across four floors. Designed to facilitate flexible working and collaboration, the new office will serve as a hub to unite different teams at the Kilmalid site and other locations across the UK so that colleagues can reconnect face to face.

The new office marks a significant milestone in Chivas Brothers’ ongoing investment in the future of Scotch and it’s the single biggest transformation the site has ever seen. The long-term ambitious development plans for Kilmalid include improvements to bottling technology and production facilities, as well as new walking and cycle paths for employees and local community members to enjoy the local wildlife and scenery by end of the year.

As part of its continued commitment to the local community and long-term investment in Scotch the company also recently announced the recruitment of more than 130 permanent operators at the plant.

Liam Donegan, Manufacturing Director at Chivas Brothers commented: “We hold our people proudly at the heart of our business and this investment into our working environments is testament to their hard work and our collaborative, convivial DNA. I’m delighted to be welcoming employees into our new, state-of-the-art facilities which have been designed to reconnect colleagues. I can’t wait to work more closely with our brilliant teams and continue on our journey to shape the future of Scotch.”

THE COUNCIL OF WHISKEY MASTERS Announces First MASTER OF BOURBON Examination for April 2023 in Kentucky – American Whiskey News

`

THE COUNCIL OF WHISKEY MASTERS Announces First MASTER OF BOURBON Examination for April 2023 in Kentucky

The first MASTER OF BOURBON examination will take place between April 25th and 28th at a private ranch on the Bourbon Trail near Lexington, Kentucky, with all candidates and judges in residence. The total cost of the program, including all on-site lodging, exams, supporting master classes, and 3 spectacular tasting dinners, is $6200pp. The exam itself consists of an oral theory segment, an essay-based theory segment, and a multi-hour blind tasting of different Bourbon expressions.

Enrollment for candidates from all backgrounds is open now on the website of the Council of Whiskey Masters. www.whiskeymasters.org/master-of-bourbon

The U.S.-based Council of Whiskey Masters was founded in 2019 and has become the foremost certification organization dedicated to whisk(e)y, offering a Bourbon track as well as a Scotch track. The Council is supported by an advisory board of more than 30 of the globally most respected whiskey experts alive today. All master-level exams are judged by board members. The full list of board members is published on the website.

Candidates in the study program start with Level 1, by either becoming a Certified Bourbon Professional (CBP) or Certfied Scotch Professional (CSP). Level 2, the Certified Whiskey Specialist (CWS) credential, covers the major types of whiskey globally, leading to well-rounded international knowledge. Studies and exams for these two levels are conducted 100% remotely, based on an ebook study guide and multiple-choice online exams.

The two Level 3 credentials, MASTER OF BOURBON and MASTER OF SCOTCH, offer the world’s top certifications for individuals who dedicate their life to the study of whisk(e)y.

On September 12th, 2022, the Council announced 5 new MASTERS OF SCOTCH, after days of intense days of examinations at Rothes Glen Whisky Castle in Speyside, Scotland. Judges were drawn from the Council’s advisory board, featuring Masters of the Quaich Charles MacLean and Bernhard Schäfer, leading spirits judges Tobias Gorn and Arthur Nägele, as well as the legendary Whiskey Couple Hans and Becky Offringa.

The Council and its members look forward to announcing the very first class of MASTERS OF BOURBON to the world. Between 15 and 25 candidates are expected to participate in this examination. The next MASTER OF SCOTCH exam will take place at the same time and location.

*UPCOMING RELEASE* Special Cask French Oak ex-Muscat TD0302 – Tasmanian Whisky News

Special Cask French Oak ex-Muscat TD0302

The 15th edition of the Sullivans Cove Special Cask series will be released on Monday the 24th. A barrel that caught the attention of the Sullivans Cove tasting panel – so much so that they named her.

Meet Rosie

An incredibly alluring French oak ex-Muscat single cask whisky, the dark and light components of this iconic Australian fortified wine style integrate so naturally with our citrusy, briny and bold Sullivans Cove spirit character.

The result? A match made in heaven.

French Oak ex-Muscat: TD0302

Immediately rich and alluring, the stage is set early for a weighty, broad-shouldered dram. The darker components of Muscat present themselves first: medjool dates, honeycomb and spiced fruit toast, backed up by the structured coffee and oolong tea oak notes. Caramel, banana and cola bottles open up with some air, while delicate trails of baking spice and eucalyptus weave throughout. 13 years old, matured in a 225L first-fill French oak ex-Muscat cask, TD0302 yielded just 265 bottles.
