Ezra Brooks “Cask Strength” K&L Exclusive Single Barrels ~ Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey News

Ezra Brooks “Cask Strength” K&L Exclusive Single Barrel #1225 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) $49.99 View

The Ezra Brooks brand has seen a veritable renaissance over the years. Once relegated to the very dusty bottom shelves, the brand has garnered significant new interest thanks to the founding of a new distillery in the historic bourbon capital Bardstown, Kentucky. The excellent barrel is the first we’ve ever sold that was distilled at that new facility. Production is nearly identical to the previous sourced stock, but it’s inviting and unique character is undeniable. Enjoy this single cask, which is sold as “Cask Strength,” but cut to 120 proof, as its the first example of what will certainly become a historically important distiller for decades to come.

Ezra Brooks “Cask Strength” K&L Exclusive Single Barrel #7851171 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) $49.99 View

The old Ezra Brooks brand has seriously turned around its image over the last several years. What was once a staple of the bottom shelf has now become one of the most exciting brands on the market today. They’ve built a gorgeous new distillery on the outskirts of Bardstown and their parent company Luxco was recently purchased by Indiana distilling giant MGP. Now we’re seeing the first stocks coming from the new distillery being sold alongside the old stocks sourced from the Bernheim distillery in Louisville. Each barrel was hand selected by the buying team at K&L during their visit to the distillery in April of 2022. This barrel was sourced from Bernheim and distilled on November 21 of 2017. In quirky Luxco fashion, they list these barrels as “Cask Strength” on the label, but they’re all cut to 120 proof. This odd and frankly incorrect labelling does not preclude this whisky from excellence. Indeed, it’s extremely well balanced with unbelievable richness and endless complexity.

Glen Moray’s Christmas Three! – Scotch Whisky News

Glen Moray’s Christmas Three!

Elgin Distillery Wraps up Trio of Warehouse 1 Exclusives for Gifting Season

Glen Moray has released three new treasures from its award-winning Warehouse 1 Collection today (24th November), each celebrating the marriage of its classic Speyside single malt with some of Europe’s most revered wine and sherry varieties.

This tantalizing trio is comprised of Amarone Finish which showcases Glen Moray’s affinity with the full-bodied red wines of Italy; Amontillado Finish, adventuring beyond the whisky’s classic sherry maturation with dryer, deeper, richer notes; and Oloroso Fully Matured, Glen Moray spirit rested for eight years in Oloroso casks to release the rich, sweet notes of this characterful sherry.

These three limited-edition, UK exclusives have been bottled and released just in time for Christmas, making them the perfect gift for whisky lovers, old and new, who would love to unwrap a special dram to enjoy over the festive season.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Amarone Finish

Finished in casks that once held Italy’s legendary Amarone red wine, offering rich, ripe fruity notes that are the perfect complement to Glen Moray’s classic Speyside spirit.

Distillation 12.02.2010

Only 1194 bottles available

55.4% ABV

RRP £79.95

Tasting notes

Sweet and spicy notes of fig and cinnamon on the nose, transcending into a deep, rich chocolate cherry liqueur. Flavours of sweet brown sugar and notes of chocolate fade to reveal a burst of red cherry, with lingering fresh green peppercorn.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Amontillado Finish

Finished in casks that once held this dark sherry from the Montilla region of Spain, giving the finished whisky its dry, deep, rich sherry notes.

Distillation 12.08.2013

Only 1248 bottles available

57.5% ABV

RRP £74.95

Tasting notes

An intense hit of caramel and chocolate on the nose, which morph into earthy notes of leather and tobacco expanding into rich, warm woody flavours with chocolate and hazelnut. A gentle spice gives way to a buttery chocolate finish.

Glen Moray Warehouse 1 Oloroso Fully Matured

Dark, nutty Oloroso (“scented” in Spanish) plays an important part in finishing Glen Moray’s core range, but this is the distillery’s first expression to be fully matured in Oloroso casks.

Distillation: 06.06.2014

Only 1950 bottles available

60% ABV

RRP £76.95

Tasting notes

Oaky and malty aromas combine with hedgerow fruits, rich cacao and a subtle hint of toasted chestnuts on the nose. To taste there is sweet liquorice, notes of rich autumn leaves and tannin, and a nuttiness that transforms to oaky spice and a long, lingering sweet, dried fruit finish.

Launched in 2020 and with a clutch of awards to its name since then, Glen Moray’s Warehouse 1 Collection promises limited release whiskies matured in the Elgin distillery’s famous blue-doored warehouse, where rarer and more experimental casks are tucked away – always non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength with natural colour. Previous releases include Sauternes, Barolo, Tokaji, Manzanilla and Madeira matured expressions.

Glen Moray’s Global Brand Ambassador Iain Allan believes that the light, smooth, fruity Speyside character of Glen Moray matured in unusual casks choices is a winning combination. He commented: ‘There’s something magical about Warehouse 1 and the unexpected and experimental casks that lie within it, and we have definitely bottled some of that magic with these three exceptional new whiskies. They are stunning single malts, continuing Glen Moray’s long heritage of cask exploration and of journeys around the world to source casks that bring bold, vibrant, sun-soaked flavours to our classic Speyside single malt whisky. Whether for full maturation or just for the finish, these casks bring extraordinary flavour and complexity to our whisky, with three distinctive expressions for whisky fans to savour over the festive season.’

Glen Moray’s new Warehouse 1 expressions are available now from specialist whisky shops. www.glenmoray.com

ABOUT GLEN MORAY

Glen Moray is one of Scotland’s best loved single malt whiskies. It has been crafted since 1897 in the ancient town of Elgin, the capital of the Speyside whisky region, on what was once the Elgin West Brewery site on the banks of the River Lossie. Pure waters from the river, locally malted barley, distillation in traditional copper stills and maturation in American ex-bourbon casks combine to give the whisky its smooth, well-balanced, classic Speyside character. Glen Moray has always been a place where curiosity about flavour and cask maturation has been encouraged. Records dating back to the early days show new make spirit maturing in a wide variety of different casks – a highly unusual practice at this time. A passion for experimentation and a deep knowledge of wood have been passed down through generations of Glen Moray distillers. The result is today’s exceptional and extensive range of whiskies, offering a flavour and style to suit all tastes. Glen Moray is the 5th biggest malt whisky brand by volume in the UK and is growing in international markets.

About Deanston

Deanston prides itself on community. It was one of the things that persuaded founder Brodie Hepburn to take the risk and covert a disused cotton mill into a whisky distillery. From the kinship of distillers, to present day innovators, to the growing community of Deanston lovers across the world. There is community and character in every single bottle of Deanston whisky.

Deanston Distillery is housed in a massive, tall, austere stone building on the bank of the River Teith near Doune, Perthshire. Formerly a cotton mill, designed by Sir Richard Arkwright – one of the Fathers of the Industrial Revolution – it was built in 1785 and operated until 1965.

Inspired by David Dale’s mill community at New Lanark, in 1811 the owners built a comfortable model village close by to house the mill workers, complete with a school, post office, communal wash house, grocery shop and savings bank. It was also the first village in Scotland to have electric lighting, in 1813 – 45 years before its neighbour, Doune, and even some months before Westminster Bridge in London. By the 1840s Deanston Village had 4,000 inhabitants, over a quarter of whom worked in the mill. Much of the village is now listed as being of special architectural and historic interest.

For Brodie Hepburn, whisky brokers in Glasgow and owners of Tullibardine and Macduff Distilleries, conversion of the mill into a distillery was a no-brainer. It already had a water turbine in place, driven by water from the river and there was plenty of excellent space for maturing casks. All that required to be done was to remove four solid floors to make way for two pairs of stills. In partnership with the mill owner, James Findlay & Company, the distillery commenced production in 1969, employing many of the local community.
