Suntory “Yamazaki – Distiller’s Reserve” Japanese Single Malt Whisky – Japanese Whiskey News

Suntory “Yamazaki – Distiller’s Reserve” Japanese Single Malt Whisky (750ml) $99.99 View

The Yamazaki Distillery doesn’t release new products very often and when the Distiller’s Reserve was release in Japan way back in 2014, we were excited to have a new Yamazaki to sell. It only took about a decade or so for them to release the product stateside and while critics hemmed and hawed about the lack of age statements, the public has embraced this release with gusto. Turns out there are some pretty incredible old whiskies in the blend, and it easily competes with the more expensive 12-year-old in the glass and many will even prefer the richer robust style that the Reserve brings. Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve, Suntory’s flagship single malt whisky, is comprised of a blend of American, Spanish, and ex-Bordeaux French oak with some old sherry casks over 18 years old. Each component is expertly blended with the great care that all Suntory whiskies are afforded.

DOUGLAS LAING’S BIG PEAT RELEASES 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION BOTTLING TO CELEBRATE 15 YEARS OF BIG PEAT – Scotch Whisky News

DOUGLAS LAING’S BIG PEAT RELEASES 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION BOTTLING

TO CELEBRATE 15 YEARS OF BIG PEAT

Award-winning Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Big Peat, today reveals this unique bottling in celebration of 15 Years.

Offered at an alcohol strength of 50% ABV, this Global Limited Edition has been predominantly matured in hand-selected Red Wine Casks providing a unique expression of the peated Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

This special edition of Big Peat has been released in a bespoke, giftable carton featuring 15 discoverable points surrounding Big Peat, the Isle of Islay and the unique Whisky itself. Also featured is a scannable QR code offering consumers the chance to join Big Peat’s Club with more to be announced in 2025.

Due to the maturation profile of this release, fans of Big Peat can expect a warming, earthy and smoke-led nose combined with black forest fruits and vanilla. The palate delivers toffee, dark chocolate and a subtle nuttiness followed by a long-lasting and lingering finish of dry peat smoke and home baking spice – a truly unique style of Big Peat to commemorate this occasion.

Celebrating 15 years of Big Peat is a truly special milestone for everyone at Douglas Laing, and there’s great excitement about what the future holds.

Commenting on the special edition bottling, Chloe Wood, Big Peat’s Brand Manager, said:

“We’re thrilled to be celebrating 15 successful years of Big Peat and to commemorate the occasion with this release is a special moment for us here at Douglas Laing.

The Red Wine Casks hand-selected for this edition of Big Peat provide us with an entirely unique flavour profile and one that balances the classic Islay peat smoke that Big Peat is known for delivering, with the fruit-driven, chocolatey nuttiness that its slow maturation has provided.

A dram to be savoured and a moment to be celebrated.”

Big Peat’s 15th Anniversary Bottling will be available from specialist Whisky retailers globally, plus online retailers from September 2024. It carries a suggested retail price of £65.00/€75.00.

Ardbeg 17 Year “Committee Release” Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky at K&L California – Islay Scotch Whisky News

Ardbeg 17 Year “Committee Release” Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

(750ml)

$179.99

View

First introduced more than a quarter of a century ago in 1997, Ardbeg 17 Years Old was one of the initial bottlings to emerge from the Distillery after a period of closure. This malt possessed a unique combination of delicacy and unmistakable Ardbeg character. It quickly captured the hearts of the Committee and set an extraordinary standard for the future of Ardbeg whisky production. When Ardbeg retired the 17 in 2004, no one expected that plans would quietly unfold for its triumphant return. Esteemed Master Distiller, Dr. Bill Lumsden, meticulously recreated the original recipe, faithfully retracing each flavor note. The decision to bottle it at the original 40% strength was deliberate, preserving the essence of the past. Tasting notes from the distillery: “Distinctly balmy and medicinal, an enticing minerality bursts into sweet smoke and malted barley. Its peaty presence is undeniable, with hints of tar and oak. Bottled in honour of the folk who were there at the start, this was always a whisky destined to return in the end.”
