Double Oak Rye: Rum Cask Edition (46% abv.)

This whisky blends the robust character of rye with the tropical richness imparted by rum cask aging, resulting in a smooth and complex drinking experience. Crafted from a mash bill of 100% rye grain, this whisky begins its aging process in a combination of American oak and Cowichan red wine casks, followed by a final maturation in Barbados rum casks. This unique finishing stage adds a sweet, rich depth to the whisky. The aroma greets you with warm vanilla and toasted oak, complemented by hints of tropical fruits and subtle notes of caramel and molasses. On the palate, spicy rye intertwines with creamy toffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ripe banana, creating an intricate flavor profile. On the palate, enjoy a balance of herbal rye, smoky maritime notes, and subtle brine, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. LORETTO, KY., – Maker’s Mark® today announced the debut of Star Hill Farm Whisky, the distillery’s first new mashbill and first wheat whisky, celebrating the role regenerative agriculture plays in creating healthier soil, better flavor and a more sustainable future. The annual release will be available in the United States and the United Kingdom beginning in mid-May and in Australia later in 2025. With its launch, Maker’s Mark is scaling its sustainability efforts by establishing The Maker’s Mark Regenerative Alliance and has committed to transitioning a million acres of conventional farmland to regenerative over the next three years.

“Guided by our founders’ pursuit of excellence and a higher purpose, we are proud to share Star Hill Farm Whisky with the world — a 10-year journey to unlock nature’s depth of flavor, resulting in something new from the Maker’s Mark Distillery,” said Rob Samuels, eighth-generation whisky maker and managing director, Maker’s Mark. “The launch of Star Hill Farm Whisky will expand our platform to advance regenerative agriculture beyond our business, fostering a more sustainable future for our industry, people and planet.”

While Maker’s Mark has used the same mashbill for over 70 years to create a balanced and consistent bourbon, Star Hill Farm Whisky will evolve each year, exploring flavors that soil, wheat, water and wood impart to quality ingredients when expertly blended, aged and grown regeneratively. The inaugural release will highlight soft red winter wheat — the distinctive grain in Maker’s Mark’s mashbill — and will remove corn entirely, allowing the wheat to shine. The 2025 release of Star Hill Farm Whisky is crafted from two mashbills: one with 70% soft red winter wheat and 30% malted barley, and the other with 100% malted soft red winter wheat.

“We’re proud to introduce the first wheat whisky in our distillery’s history, one that showcases our vision and innovation and honors the land that makes it all possible,” said Dr. Blake Layfield, master distiller, Maker’s Mark. “This release is a complex yet balanced blend of seven- and eight-year whiskies, bottled uncut at cask strength. The nose captivates with notes of buttery caramel, golden raisins and gingerbread. On the palate, you’ll find a soft, bright mix of honeyed toffee, chocolate-covered cherries, and a hint of apple pie spice. The finish is smooth and inviting, with toasted pecans and soft cinnamon bringing it all together.”

Partnering to Advance Regenerative Agriculture

Star Hill Farm Whisky is named after the 1,100-acre farm that is home to the Maker’s Mark Distillery, chosen by its founders, Margie and Bill Samuels Sr., in 1953 for its unique water source and proximity to grain growers. Maker’s Mark still owns, protects and enriches its watershed and land. Today, Maker’s Mark is the first and only bourbon distillery to achieve B Corp Certification in Kentucky and the first distillery globally to achieve certification from Regenified, the leading regenerative certification company.

With the launch of Star Hill Farm Whisky, Maker’s Mark has formed an alliance with Regenified and Understanding Ag, which provides education and technical support to build healthy farm ecosystems. MAY 2025 AUCTION NOW LIVE!

We are delighted that our May auction is now LIVE! As always, we have an interesting selection of bottles from a variety of distilleries. There are some nice vintages this month, including this gorgeous and hard to find Highland Park 1968 offering, aged for 35 years before being bottled at Cask strength as part of their Cask Strength Collection.

How about this 5cl miniature? This little gem must surely be one of the most recognisable bottles in the world of whisky. Commissioned in 1996 by Private Eye to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the magazine. The unusual screen-printed label design was created by magazine illustrator Ralph Steadman. The whisky itself was vatted using a combination of Casks including a 35 year old Cask from 1961, the same year that Private Eye was founded.

Released in 1997 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Highland distillery Tomatin, this ornate crystal decanter is presented in the shape of a pot still, with the stopper shaped as the top of the still. This is number 60 of 1,000 decanters produced for the impressive milestone.

Released in September 2024 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Macallan Distillery, Time: Space Mastery is stunningly presented in a curiously shaped circular bottle representing life’s enduring cycle, paying homage to the history and story of the distillery and It’s age old whisky making processes.

Every bottle is hand filled and individually dipped in wax to seal it and then we add a label that is hand-written with all the whisky details, date bottled and your name or message.

Choose from a range of single cask whiskies; each one offering its own unique style and flavour. As each whisky come from just one cask, there are a limited number of bottles available. Each whisky is bottled at cask strength, natural colour and with no chill-filtration.

The deadline for collection requests is 12noon on Monday 12th May 2025.

Home collections are available for those customers sending 10+ bottles or bottles to the value of £1000. Lots can be split over the next three auctions.

Unfortunately this service is not available in London or to those customer who live within 10 miles of a collection point. Although we do have four collection points in London.

Collections are limited and offered on a first come first served basis. It is essential that a submission sheet is completed, you can find the link to do so under the selling section on your ‘My SWA’ page.

It would be appreciated if bottles could be packed for uplift with your name clearly marked on the front of the box.
