Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary Limited Whisky – Japanese Whisky News

Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary Limited Whisky

70cl · 48% ABV

This limited edition is a world blended whisky incorporating whiskies from nine decades, from  the 1940s to the 2020s, distilled at Nikka’s 6 distilleries including Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland. More than 50 whisky batches, including the oldest malt whisky reserve from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, and new grain whisky from Moji and Satsumastukasa, have been selected representing Nikka’s heritage and future, and skillful blending embraces them into perfection.

Bottled at 48% ABV, this is non-chill filtered to best maximize its distinct flavors and enhance the rich texture.

ADD TO BASKET

The bottle with the Nikka emblem is crafted using “Edo- bori” carving, a glass carving technique born in Tokyo (former name “Edo”) which derived from western sandblast carving. This unique bottle shape, which was developed when Nikka launched THE NIKKA 40 years old for the 80th anniversary in 2014, represents the accumulated heritage of Nikka.

Nose: A rich apple pie and raisin sweetness with toasty barrel-ageing notes lead into a gentle smokiness and the nostalgic scent of antique furniture. Complex and layered aromas give the impression of standing in the warehouse where the whisky has peacefully slumbered.

Palate: Mellow oak with profound depth forms a base, structuring the spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts, and rich dark chocolate aromas. A subtle bitterness from the peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, while an overall warmth gives the impression of sitting in front of a fireplace.

Finish: Gentle peat is enveloped by the full body, with sweet and sour notes introducing a pleasant bitterness on a very long finish.

The Whiskies of New Zealand – The Whisky Exchange News

THE WHISKIES OF NEW ZEALAND

From modest beginnings making whiskies in the Scottish tradition, New Zealand has developed one of the most intriguing distilling scenes in the world. Its origins is in the early 19th century, when Scottish and Irish settlers brought their knowledge of distilling to the islands of Aotearoa. Today, although production remains small-scale, the focus is firmly on quality and a strong sense of place. Producers are smoking barley with manuka wood or homegrown peat, using local grain and maturing spirit in New Zealand wine casks.

Suntory Global Spirits Gives Back to Society by Planting 7,000 Trees in Kentucky – American Whiskey News

Suntory Global Spirits Gives Back to Society by Planting 7,000 Trees in Kentucky

Our Suntory Global Spirits team recently put our company values of Growing for Good and Giving Back to Society into practice at a tree planting event in Hazard, Kentucky on April 10. This marks the fourth year of the planting initiative in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and Green Forests Work.

80 volunteers, including members of Suntory’s executive and senior leadership teams, planted 7,000 trees in the Central Appalachian Mountains, which have been stripped of trees due to being a former coal mining site.

“Our premium spirits are made with agricultural ingredients, such as grains and agave, and we rely on healthy forests and White Oak trees for the barrels that age our spirits,” said Kim Marotta, Chief Environmental Sustainability Officer and Head of Enterprise Risk Management at Suntory Global Spirits. “Given the significant role White Oak plays in our bourbon barrels, we’re committed to their regeneration. Kentucky is the heartland of our business, so we are very proud to continue supporting this annual event, along with our partners, as we work to accelerate our positive impact in our local communities.”

Kentucky is home to several of Suntory Global Spirits’ iconic brands, including Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark, and revitalizing healthy forests and land will support many more decades of whiskey making and the communities around the distilleries.

Our employees’ dedication and passion have made a profound impact in the region, contributing to planting 315,000 trees on The Nature Conservatory’s Cumberland Forest property, a key portion of the Central Appalachians and one of the most biologically rich temperate forest ecosystems in the world. The forest protects the headwaters of several rivers, ensuring clean drinking water and supporting aquatic ecosystems downstream.  Tree planting supports a healthy ecosystem with carbon sequestration, improved air quality and restored wildlife habitats in the expansive area. Conservation efforts in the Cumberland Forest are helping restore lands impacted by logging and mining and protect against future degradation and ensure long-term ecological health. To date, Suntory Global Spirits has planted over 700,000 trees.

We continue to accelerate our progress to plant more trees than harvested to make our new barrels by 2030. Learn more about our sustainability efforts here.
