Introducing WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey Created by WhistlePig Whiskey In Collaboration with Flaviar – Whiskey News

Introducing WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey Created by WhistlePig Whiskey In Collaboration with Flaviar

Blended Together, While Apart

Limited edition WhistlePig expression crowd-blended by whiskey lovers during lock down released to raise money for U.S. Bartenders

[May 11, 2020]: Shoreham, Vermont. WhistlePig Rye Whiskey is pleased to announce the introduction of WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey, a whiskey blended together, while apart.  The limited edition whiskey was created via a virtual crowd blending experience in collaboration with Flaviar, a leading online spirits club. WhistlePig will donate 20% of online sales via Flaviar & Caskers from HomeStock to the U.S. Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) Foundation’s Emergency Assistance Program, which provides COVID-19 Relief Grants to bartenders. HomeStock is the first variant from WhistlePig’s award-winning portfolio that stretches outside of the Rye category, also using Wheat and Barley whiskeys.

WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey is a result of an innovative, multi-faceted immersive crowd-blending experience designed to lift spirits and raise vital funds for the U.S. bar industry community. The collaboration between WhistlePig & Flaviar and the entrepreneurial nature of both companies ensured this concept went from idea to reality in just a matter of weeks. An engaging exclusive content program was created and hundreds of WhistlePig ‘Blend Your Own’ whiskey kits were dispatched to a combination of Flaviar’s membership of whiskey enthusiasts and industry professionals, who were asked to experiment at home before submitting their preferred recipe. The at home blending kits included samples of WhistlePig Rye, wheat and barley whiskeys, along with blending tools and instructions, were universally welcomed by whiskey lovers stuck indoors.

Pete Lynch, WhistlePig’s Master Blender, is no stranger to crowd-blending, which has formed the basis of WhistlePig’s award-winning FarmStock range, but he would usually host sessions around the country in person. Adjusting to the times, he shared his expertise via a video from the WhistlePig Farm and distillery in Vermont and written instructions. With the submissions received, Lynch analyzed the data and determined the three most popular styles of whiskey submitted.

Thousands of consumers tuned in to Flaviar’s social media pages to take part in a live blending session, hosted on April 28 by spirits industry veteran, Dan Dunn and Lynch. During the live stream, all three whiskeys were blended, tasted and then voted upon to decide which should be bottled as WhistlePig HomeStock.

Despite over half of the submissions being Rye dominant, the surprise winner, with 44.1% of the votes on the night, was Blend Number 3, which involved 45% Rye, 30% Wheat and 25% Barley.

Jeff Kozak, CEO, WhistlePig Whiskey, adds “HomeStock is a truly special blend for us, not only due to how it was made but it’s the first time we’re releasing a whiskey that features something other than Rye. We’re thrilled that this blend got voted as the winner, it could be a sign of things to come from us in the future as a natural extension of our famed FarmStock range.”

Grisa Soba, Co-Founder of Flaviar, comments: “We’re going to be talking about this period in history for a long time, and what we all did to stave off cabin fever. Instead of saying they learnt how to make sourdough or banana bread like some kind of quarantine cliché, Flaviar members will be able to brag about learning to blend whiskey during lock down and being part of a piece of liquid history that they can now own and savor. Exclusive content and experiences like this have always been a big part of Flaviar and we’ve just taken it to another level.”

On the nose, HomeStock is sweet and fruity, with pipe tobacco, vanilla and orange vest.  Upon tasting, one will experience a big hit of baking spice with toffee, with nutmeg, roasted nuts, ripe berries and a great mouthfeel. The finish on HomeStock is long, spicy and lovely.

WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey is now available for pre-order via Flaviar and Caskers, priced at $72.99 per 750ml.

Diageo pledges more than eight million bottles of sanitiser for frontline healthcare workers

Diageo pledges more than eight million bottles of sanitiser for frontline healthcare workers

  • World’s largest distiller in unprecedented global response in the UK, Ireland, Italy, the USA, Brazil, Kenya, India and Australia
  • Pledge aimed at overcoming shortages to protect frontline healthcare workers
  • Donation of alcohol is enough to produce more than eight million bottles of hand sanitiser

23 March 2020: Diageo, maker of Johnnie Walker has today pledged to enable the creation of more than eight million bottles of hand sanitiser, by donating up to two million litres of alcohol to manufacturing partners, to help protect frontline healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19.

The world’s leading distiller will provide Grain Neutral Spirit (GNS) – a 96% strength ethyl alcohol used primarily in production of vodka and gin – and make it available at no cost to hand sanitiser producers in multiple countries, to help overcome shortages in healthcare systems. This donation will enable the production of more than eight million 250ml bottles of hand sanitiser.

Diageo continues to engage with national and local governments across the many countries where the company has major distilling operations. The spirit will be made available in supply chains according to local circumstances, working with the relevant authorities and hand sanitiser manufacturers. This will ensure the donation is used for maximum impact in protecting health workers and patients and that sanitiser reaches the frontline as quickly as possible.

The plan includes:

  • The UK and the Republic of Ireland: 500,000 litres of GNS to be made available for national healthcare systems and workers across the UK and Ireland.
  • Italy: 100,000 litres of GNS to support the healthcare system and other national needs
  • USA: 500,000 litres of GNS to be supplied to meet local community needs
  • Brazil: Diageo’s Ypioca plant will produce 50,000 litres of spirit for the local healthcare system, in conjunction with the Ceara State Government.
  • Kenya: Diageo’s East Africa Breweries Ltd will enable production of 135,000 litres of sanitiser, prioritising vulnerable and at risk groups.
  • India: 500,000 litres of alcohol to supply to the sanitizer industry across 25 States, for use in national healthcare systems and for consumers.
  • Australia: Diageo’s Bundaberg Distilling Co. to produce 100,000 litres of ethanol for the Queensland Government, to be forwarded to hand sanitiser manufacturers.

“Healthcare workers are at the forefront of fighting this pandemic and we are determined to do what we can to help protect them,” said Ivan Menezes, Chief Executive of Diageo. This is the quickest and most effective way for us to meet the surging demand for hand sanitiser around the world.”

SCOTCH BOTTLING PLANT AND FLEET VEHICLES REPURPOSED TO FACILITATE PACKAGING AND CONTACT-FREE DELIVERY BY CHIVAS BROTHERS EMPLOYEES.

SCOTCH BOTTLING PLANT AND FLEET VEHICLES REPURPOSED TO FACILITATE PACKAGING AND CONTACT-FREE DELIVERY BY CHIVAS BROTHERS EMPLOYEES.

24 April 2020: Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard, has distributed thousands of litres of hand sanitiser to frontline healthcare workers, social care providers and charities across Scotland.

In just one weekover 7,500 litres of hand sanitiser – produced at the Plymouth Gin distillery and by Chivas Brothers’ manufacturing partners, and packaged by the team at its site at Kilmalid, Dumbarton – have been donated to 166 organisations across the Central Belt of Scotland to help in the fight against COVID-19.

Contact-free deliveries have been made across West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and Ayrshire by Kilmalid employees using Chivas fleet vehicles, with more scheduled next week and beyond. The company is also looking to expand its efforts by replicating this distribution model across its Scotch heartland of Speyside, with employees at its Miltonduff site commencing hand sanitiser deliveries to charities and organisations supporting the vulnerable from as early as next week.

Liam Donegan, Manufacturing Director at Chivas Brothers commented:

“It has never been more important to come together as a community, especially to help the most vulnerable and at-risk amongst us. I’m proud to see our teams working so hard to package and distribute essential hand sanitiser to those who need it most. We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure we can keep providing for our communities during this difficult time.”

5,000 litres a week

Chivas Brothers has committed to package and distribute up to 5,000 litres of hand sanitiser every week until at least the end of June. The hand sanitiser will be produced at the Plymouth Gin distillery in England before being transported to Kilmalid, Dumbarton where it will be packaged and distributed to frontline healthcare workers and charities in communities across Scotland.

Chivas Brothers is also supporting the national effort more widely, having donated 100,000 litres of pure alcohol earlier this month to manufacturing partners to create over 120,000 litres of hand sanitiser for frontline NHS staff battling the pandemic across the UK.

Supporting local charities

Chivas Brothers is initially prioritising social care providers and charities in close proximity to its sites, as well as asking employees to nominate organisations close to their hearts to receive a donation of sanitiser. This includes the Lomond and Clyde Care & Repair charity which supports over 4,000 elderly, vulnerable, isolated and disabled members of the West Dunbartonshire community to remain independent and living in their own homes.

Elizabeth Eadie, Care & Repair Manager, commented:

We were delighted to receive a gift of 10 litres of hand sanitising gel from Chivas Brothers. This will assist our Small Repairs Workers to maintain their own safety and also the safety of our clients. Care & Repair are working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, assisting our clients with emergency works. Hand sanitising gel was hard to procure, so to receive this large amount has been fantastic.”

Supporting the Moray Emergency Relief Fund

Chivas Brothers has also pledged its support to the Speyside community in Scotland – home to the distilleries behind some of its best-loved Scotch whiskies, including The Glenlivet, Aberlour, Chivas Regal and Royal Salute  by donating £25,000 to the Moray Emergency Relief Fund and supporting efforts to drive awareness of assistance available to those in needThe Fund, which welcomes applications from individuals who are unable to secure Moray Council, Scottish or UK Government funding, is designed for those members of the local community facing financial hardship due to Coronavirus, providing vital support to those most vulnerable as a result of the pandemic.

Gordon Buist, Production Director at Chivas Brothers, commented:

“Speyside is home not only to many of our distilleries and brand homes, but also to many of our team and partners. We want to give a little something back to the community that has given us so much over the years.”

Coffee for NHS Nightingale London staff

In England, Chivas is providing support to frontline NHS staff in London by backing a crowdfunder by Change Please, the social enterprise that won the 2018 Chivas Venture competition. Change Please provides barista training and jobs for people experiencing homelessness, and Chivas donation will help them provide free coffees and hot drinks for the 2,000 NHS staff working at NHS Nightingale London.

CHIVAS BROTHERS RAMPS UP PRODUCTION OF HAND SANITISER FOR THE NHS

CHIVAS BROTHERS RAMPS UP PRODUCTION OF HAND SANITISER FOR THE NHS

TODAY, CHIVAS BROTHERS, THE SCOTCH WHISKY BUSINESS OF PERNOD RICARD, BEGAN THE TRANSPORTATION OF TWO TANKERS OF STRATHCLYDE GRAIN SPIRIT AS PART OF AN INITIAL DONATION OF 100,000 LITRES OF PURE ALCOHOL TO MANUFACTURING PARTNERS WHO WILL USE IT TO PRODUCE 120,000 LITRES OF MUCH-NEEDED HAND SANITISER GEL FOR FRONTLINE NHS STAFF BATTLING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ACROSS SCOTLAND, ENGLAND AND WALES.

Also today (Mar 9th), the company received a consignment of 4,000 litres of hand sanitiser gel ready to be packaged at its bottling plant in Kilmalid, Dumbarton. This delivery will be joined next week by a further 15,000 litres of hand sanitiser gel produced at Pernod Ricard’s Plymouth Gin distillery in England. After packaging, the hand sanitiser will be distributed to frontline healthcare workers across Scotland and to communities in the Dumbarton area.

Chivas Brothers will start packaging hand sanitiser tomorrow, starting with 1,000 litres per day and monitoring needs over the coming weeks.

Chivas Brothers CEO Jean-Christophe Coutures commented:

“Combatting COVID-19 requires a collective effort from everyone. We’re fortunate to have ready access to ethanol and state-of-the-art facilities, so we are determined to do all we can to help increase the production of hand sanitiser, which is so essential in preventing the spread of the virus. We are proud to be joining our fellow distillers across the industry and the wider Pernod Ricard group in this battle and will continue to look for ways to assist wherever it is needed.”

Business-wide effort

In addition to hand sanitiser production, Chivas Brothers has announced in recent weeks the introduction of a number of initiatives to support communities both on home soil and in international markets that continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chivas Brothers has reorganised its internal reward scheme so that when employee efforts are recognised, rewards can be donated to the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus appeal, that the company will then double-up. The company is also making regular lump-sum contributions on behalf of all employees to NHS Charities Together, to support NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients during the crisis.

In addition, Chivas Brothers has accelerated its support of its 2020 Charity of the Year, MND Scotland, with a donation of £26,000, meeting its total £50,000 fundraising target nine months ahead of schedule. It has committed to continue fundraising efforts when possible and extend them throughout 2021.

With Blended Scotch Whisky Chivas’ global social enterprise competition curtailed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the $1 million prize fund of the Chivas Venture 2020 was distributed equally amongst the 26 finalists of this year’s competition – so that the funding can be put towards helping solve social, environmental and economic challenges and creating positive impact in a testing time for people across the globe.

Additionally, Blended Scotch Whisky Ballantine’s pledged its support for music communities worldwide at a time when COVID-19 restrictions are impacting their ability to do what they love and to make a living. The initiative, the first in a number planned for the coming months, sees grants distributed to community-driven music collectives around the world who will be taking part in Boiler Room’s recently announced ‘Streaming from Isolation’ programme.

Evan Williams Bourbon Launches American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund – American Whisky News

Evan Williams Bourbon Launches American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund

2020 funds will support nonprofit organizations that serve the veteran community negatively impacted by COVID-19

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Evan Williams Bourbon today established the American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund, continuing the brand’s support of veterans since launching the American-Made Heroes program and limited-edition label in 2015.

As an American-made and American-owned brand, Evan Williams recognizes true American heroes each year by sharing their exceptional stories of honor, bravery and service to their community on a special edition label. The American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund will extend this recognition by helping to fund independent, nonprofit organizations that support veterans and their families. The purpose of the foundation is to provide a platform for sharing inspiring veteran stories, raising public awareness for causes impacting the veteran community, and supporting nonprofit organizations that help veterans and their families through a specialized grant program.

Due to the national impact of the COVID-19 crisis, the American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund will focus its inaugural efforts with the COVID-19 Veteran Relief Grant, which awards donations to nonprofit organizations that serve the veteran communities negatively impacted by the coronavirus. Beginning April 21, 2020 through June 24, 2020, 501c3 organizations can apply for funding through the COVID-19 Veteran Relief Grant. In addition to this effort, the brand’s parent company, Heaven Hill Brands, has launched an initiative to produce hand sanitizer at several of its locations, including the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville, Ky. A portion of the hand sanitizer produced will be delivered to veteran centers across the state of Kentucky.

“We are honored to launch the American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund and continue the brand’s efforts to celebrate veterans who protect the American spirit,” said Julie Cole, Evan Williams Bourbon Brand Manager. “With a history of supporting our country’s veterans, we are proud to kick off the official fund with a focus on supporting veteran communities most at risk during this time.”

As the second-largest selling Bourbon in the world, Evan Williams is proud of its American Heritage and honored to broaden its support of veteran communities across the country. The 2020 American-Made Heroes will be announced in early May along with the individualized 2020 limited edition bottles.
