Whisky Wednesday Reviews Lagg Innaugral Release – Scotch Whisky News

https://youtu.be/H6NRn0rqrK0

Haven’t got my hands in an innaugral release for a while!

Lagg Distillery is part two in the realm of Arran. A distillery designed for heavily peated spirit, sourcing said peat from north eastern Scotland, it allows for a still very smoky but lighter, lemony, honey’d style of west coast peated whisky. Peated to 50PPM, 50% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered, this is an exemplary style of young Scottish whisky that Limited to 10,000 bottle in the first release, this has become much more difficult to get ahold of, but for those of you that have opened it, what a treat it is!

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 462 : Balblair 16 Year Old 2006 Hand Bottled at the Distillery – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 462 : Balblair 16 Year Old 2006 Hand Bottled at the Distillery

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a distillery exclusive. His buddy Marcel from the Netherlands visited the Balblair distillery some time ago and asked Mark if he could do him a favor with an exclusive hand-bottled malt. Of course Mark immediately agreed and let him bring such a bottle. And then to think that in September 2022 Mark will visit Balblair himself… Perhaps by that time it will be a different cask and he can return the favor. The label does not mention a cask type, but judging by the color, this may have been a bourbon barrel.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Benromach 15YO – Scotch Whisky News

https://youtu.be/Takd1Tf33hE

Big lover of Benromach and all the things they do. But I do have a bee in my bonnet about everyone’s obsession with ‘quality’ whiskies being atleast 46% ABV and non-chill filtered. It’s as if all whisky MUST have these boxes ticked in order to be judged and reviewed upon by the whisky overlords of YouTube and beyond. But not all whiskies that tick those boxes are objectively good, and that’s a fact.

This is an excellent whisky, as is the whole Benromach range. Being owned by Gordon and Macphail, it’s doubtful that the family begind G&M are sat in a boardroom, plotting and scheming about how annoyed people will be that there standard range isn’t 46% ABV.

On taste alone, Benromach 15YO is an outstanding product, from an excellent distillery and it provides something different from your typical and sometimes, very boring, Speysode whisky portfolio.

Benromach 15. It isn’t 46%…but is fucking wonderful.
