Whisky Wednesday Reviews Clydeside Fortnight, 46% – Scotch Whisky News

Clydeside Fortnight, 46%

THE REVIEW

Located on the banks of The Clyde in an old pump house with an incredible family history, here we have Clydeside Fortnight. A peated single malt, produced during the two week period of the year where the distillery gets smoky! Aged for six years in refill ex-bourbon casks, this is a bottle of whisky that is perfect for existing peatheads, or those looking to get into the style.

Coming in at 46% with no additional colour of chill filtration, it’s a bountiful aroma and taste that isn’t reliant on peat, it’s simply there to add more complexity and style, something which this six year old single malt has buckets of.

The nose is all sticky honey, sweet peat and baked lemon. Almost like eating lemon curd by a bonfire. The taste brings out more citrus with some touches of tropical fruits like pineapple and kiwi, with that welcome peat smoke dancing around in the background. The finish is soft, warming and gentle with refill barrel spice and a heavier hit of that smokiness – the finish reminds me of those smoke machines at school discos when you were a kid.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 599: Compass Box Ethereal – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 599: Compass Box Ethereal

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a rather special blended malt. For the 65th anniversary of the French La Maison du Whisky, John Glaser and his associates created this blended malt with Miltonduff, Caol Ila, Old Pulteney, and Ardbeg. The components are 17 and 26 years old! So, we can expect a smoky whisky.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Torabhaig Taigh – Scotch Whisky News

Torabhaig Taigh

THE VIDEO

Torabhaig Taigh. What a stunning work of beauty, and that’s before we even talk about the liquid. Aileen Grant has worked absolute magic with this design. I’m yet to venture to Skye, but these images are so warming and comfortable in their style. The whisky is all about ‘smoke with taste’. A combination of first fill bourbon, refil bourbon, and some ex-Madeira. It starts off so biscuity and salty! Then the smoke starts to seep through the vatting. Welcomingly west coast with Torabhaig’s citrus and malty twists. This is a delightful bottle that is now their new house style! For the price of £45, this is an absolute steal! 46% ABV, natural colour and unfiltered, it’s so nice to see Torabhaig making new milestones.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews – Loch Lomond Open Edition 2026 – Scotch Whisky News

Loch Lomond Open Edition 2026, 46%

https://youtu.be/9BXE7aWm-Pw

This is one of the yearly releases in the whisky industry that really shows off how fun and engaging Loch Lomond are as a distillery.

Matured initially in ex-American oak and then finished in ex-Argentinian Malbec casks, this is a 46% offering from the folks of Loch Lomond that has a lot going on under the surface. I’m still genuinely unsure if it is peated, or contains a cask or low peated whisky, but I can certainly taste something ashy and sweet on the finish.

A sweet, interesting and different bottle of single malt, you don’t need me to tell you how good Loch Lomond are as a distillery, it’s something that is already very well established amongst those who know!
