Whisky Wednesday Reviews Craigellachie 13YO Bas Armagnac Finish – Scotch Whisky News

Craigellachie 13YO Bas Armagnac Finish, 46%

THE VIDEO

Craigellachie really blew us all away. With a different. Flavour, as well as some very. Affordable release whiskies. Sadly, most of them have been discontinued, but we still have the ever wonderful Craigellachie 13YO to enjoy. But now we have a cask finish series….and this one has been. Finished in Bas Armagnac casks.

Bas Armagnac also relies on worm tubs for it’s condensation methods, so the two spirits have some similarities, but the fusion of the cask finish has given us some incredible savoury, different styles of flavour that are going to take quite a long time to unpack, god bless having the whole bottle to enjoy.

I picked this up from the ever reliable Royal Mile Whiskies while on holiday in Edinburgh – I was after some other stuff, but when Edinburgh is that busy, you have to get up early to get the new bottles. I will say, though, coming away with this was quite a joy, as for some reason it’s been so long since I’ve had a bottle of Craigellachie in the house.

Fresh from the July 2024 Whisky Showcase, Adam tries the extra special That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s 45 year aged Blended Grain #3. This features two different closed distilleries – which in the video Adam describes as Cambus and North Of Scotland – but sources seem to suggest that it’s actually Carsebridge not Cambus – which is even rarer. Our members scored it 93.07 and put it in the “Fruity & Spicy” flavour profile.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Old Overholt Straight Rye – American Whiskey News

Old Overholt Straight Rye, 40%

https://youtu.be/s8U3vFMe6FQ

Rye is a product that divides whisky drinkers. Some see it as very spicy, others a little one dimensional, but I personally love it! This is Old Overholt Straight Rye, an absolute cornerstone of American spirits, one that has literally covered the modern day development of the country, through good and bad. The history of this liquid is too long to put into a video biography, you’ll just have to watch it. But even though it isn’t the most complex liquid on the earth, I love it.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 535: Old Elk Cigar Cut – STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY NEWS

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 535: Old Elk Cigar Cut

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, is very excited, as he’s never heard of Old Elk. They can be found in Fort Collins, Colorado. They set themselves apart from other producers by using a process they call ‘slow cut proofing process’, meaning they dilute by adding small amounts of water over the course of several weeks, meaning they keep more of the finer and lighter flavours in their bourbon. In the glass is their Cigar Cut, which is quite amazing as it’s a vatting – a marriage or a blend, if you will – of their 6 year old bourbon that has been finished on a wide variety of barrels: 1.5 years on sherry, 1.25 years on Armagnac, 3 to 8 months on port casks and 3 to 6 months on cognac casks!
