Whisky Wednesday Reviews Waterford Cuvee Koffi, 50% – Irish Whiskey News

Waterford Cuvee Koffi, 50%

https://youtu.be/L-8CM3L1RLs

Waterford have come on a long way since those first bottle releases in 2020. But it hasn’t all been met with graciousness.

This is the Koffi, named after the artist of this rather stunning artwork on the bottle and box. Waterford’s oldest whisky to date at six years old. Matured in a combination of ex-American and French oak, and a vatting of numerous styles of their single farm origin styles of whisky, this is a rather stunning combination of Waterford’s house style, as well as some welcome cask influences of fresh summer fruits.

That Waterford house style is, for me, becoming one of the most unique styles in whisky, instantly notable as soon as it hits your nose. This earthy, unpeated, petrichor, grassy, wet Irish hill climb of whisky style is becoming so distinct in the ever-growing world of whisky.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 532: Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Rye – Toasted Rye Whiskey News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 532: Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Rye

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, tries an old American. Michter’s is one of America’s oldest brands, dating back to 1753 when the original distillery was founded in Pennsylvania, making it one of the oldest. It would take until 1950 before Louis Forman, a liquor broker and salesman, came up with the brand name, but the distillery went bankrupt in 1989. Fast forward to today and there are now two production facilities in Louisvilly Kentucky where the Michter’s bourbon and rye whiskies are being produced. Let’s dive into this Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Rye.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Thompson Bros 8YO Blended Malt – Scotch Whisky News

Thompson Bros 8YO Blended Malt, 44.5%

A combination of Clynelish and Glen Ord for below £40 a bottle? Plus, it has a vintage supermarket themed label. Sign. Me. Up.

This is my first Thompson Bros bottle (don’t @ me) and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m not one for marketing emails, but as soon as I saw this, I bought it!

The Thompson Brothers are the owners of the Dornoch Distillery, and having released some young stock, their indie bottlings of single malts, blended malt, and blended whiskies are some of the most looked for and awarded styles of whisky in the modern world.

The combination of Clynelish and Glen Ord in this bottle is truly wonderful, easy, summer drink that has reams of nostalgia attached to it for anyone who has ever lived in the UK.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews The SPEY Trilogia – Scotch Whisky News

The SPEY Trilogia, 46% ABV

https://youtu.be/3QwHVryo5tA

I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t tried much from The SPEY distillery. Between chasing bourbon unicorns to open, strange Scotch bottles, indies, and all that stuff, this passed me by. But thankfully not anymore!

A combination of three of their own single malts, married together in a finish of first fill Tawny port, with that little bit of peat smoke ruminating throughout it. This is quite a bottle for the summer, and a refresher on the idea of port casks for me. I’ve rarely gotten on with them, besides rum casks, they’ve always been my ‘this never really works’ in the whisky world.

Anyway, this is a limited release of just 6,000 bottles, which for a distillery this small and under the radar is quite a small amount of anything.

Have you tried anything from SPEY before? Is there something I should pick up?
