Whisky Wednesday Reviews Macallan 12 Sherry Oak, 40% – Scotch Whisky News

Macallan 12 Sherry Oak, 40%

THE REVIEW

Where do you start with Macallan 12 Year Old? A foundation product of epic proportions that is responsible for getting so many of us into the whisky game. That’s still valid for new and experienced whisky drinkers, however, these days, things are much more expensive, and much more…corporate.

Given the price tag for this bottle across the world and how it’s still in such huge demand, why is this? Anyone who spends any time at all in the whisky space is exposed to Glenallachie, Glendronach, Edradour, Speyburn, and countless other single malt whiskies that lead you down this sherried path.

So given the current state of the worlds finances, why is Macallan 12 still outselling most of its counterparts when it comes to cases across the planet? The release of very premium, NAS art statement bottles, the constant partnering with high level brands like Bentley, the need to be the brand at that level of luxury – but why should a consumer in the modern world really care about that? Especially given the amount of independent and other large conglomerate whiskies that are as good but cheaper.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Keeper’s Heart 10YO Malaga Cask Finish – Whiskey News

Keeper’s Heart 10YO Malaga Cask Finish

https://youtu.be/AwtNVRLDigM

A ‘cereal’ winner here…sorry about that.

A ten year old Irish single malt that is matured in ex-bourbon casks for a majority of its life, before being finished in ex-Malaga wine casks. What could be wrong with this? In my opinion, not much, except distribution, currently.

When you look at other Irish whiskies that are matured in similar casks, Yellow Spot, for instance. It is a rather expensive proposal for something that is unusual, but available at good whisky bars for a decent price. This is something a little off the beaten path, and with someone like Brian Nation behind the final say of a whisky like this, you know the quality is going to be high.

If this was available in the UK then it’s something I’d snap up again in a heartbeat. This is tropical, gentle, has just enough spice to offer contrast, and is easily one of my go-to bottles this summer time. Hopefully it could become one of yours, too.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 564: Miltonduff 13 Year Old 2011 for When Whisky Meats BBQ 2025 – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 564: Miltonduff 13 Year Old 2011 for When Whisky Meats BBQ 2025

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries Belgian festival bottling. Saturday, June 14th, whisky enthusiasts from far and wide will gather in the cozy town of Zwijnaarde for the festival When Whisky Meats BBQ. Fantastic location, delicious bites, delightful whisky (and other spirits), but above all, a great atmosphere. And of course, there’s another festival bottling, and just like the previous years, the organizers joined forces with the incomparable Bert Bruyneel of Asta Morris to select a remarkable whisky that is sold at a friendly price at the festival. It’s a Miltonduff 13 Year Old 2011 at 52%, and you pay only 55 EUR for it. That’s impressive! But is it tasty? Let’s find out!
