Whisky Wednesday Reviews Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style – American Whiskey News

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style

THE VIDEO

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style is one of the most popular bottles in the brand’s Whiskey Row series. First released in 2016, it pays tribute to the Prohibition era, when Old Forester was one of the few distilleries allowed to keep producing whiskey for medicinal purposes. Bottled at 115 proof (57.5% ABV), it reflects what whiskey of the time might have tasted like after aging since barrels were filled at 100 proof and by maturity evaporation would often raise them to around 115.

Like all Old Forester bourbons, it uses their standard mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. There is no age statement, but its flavor and proof have made it a favorite among enthusiasts looking for a bold historical expression. As the third release in the Whiskey Row lineup after 1870 Original Batch and 1897 Bottled in Bond, 1920 remains an ongoing part of Old Forester’s portfolio.

Drinking Out Loud “Goodbye Blackadder – Our Fourth And Most Likely Final Blackadder Tasting” – Scotch Whisky News

THE VIDEO

Adam and Brett say farewell to an old friend in this bittersweet set of whisky releases. Blackadder was an instrumental part of our whisky club’s history, and was even the subject of this channel’s very first video back in 2020. (Don’t go looking for it, it’s truly awful). This long-lost set of whiskies has been collecting dust in a warehouse since 2019, and is finally available for our members to enjoy.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews McConnell’s Irish Whiskey, Cognac Finish – Irish Whiskey News

McConnell’s Irish Whiskey, Cognac Finish, 46%

THE VIDEO

McConnell’s Irish Whisky has a story that stretches back to 1776. From its humble beginnings with Hugh McConnell, a grocer and spirit dealer in Belfast, to Eleanor McConnell continuing the business as a distiller in 1841, resilience has always been at our core.

By 1899, J & J McConnell opened Cromac Distillery on Belfast’s Ravenhill Road, famed for its pure water and world-renowned ginger ale. But tragedy struck, fires in 1907 and 1909 destroyed whiskey stocks and warehouses, some of the worst in Belfast’s history.

Even after such setbacks, McConnell’s endured until Prohibition in the 1930s forced closure. Today, Belfast Distillery Company has proudly revived this legendary whiskey, bringing McConnell’s back to bars, pubs, and international markets.

From Belfast-born roots to worldwide recognition, McConnell’s is back, and we’re only getting started.
