Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 199 – Benromach 10 Year Old – Scotch Whisky News
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 199: Benromach 10 Year Old
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries the Benromach 10 Year Old. When Gordon & Macphail – owners of – released their very own Benromach 10 Year Old in 2009, it was not an immediate success. But when they relaunched it in new livery in 2014, suddenly it was on everyone’s radar. Rightfully so. This is a fantastic old school malt whisky!
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 198: Redbreast Lustau Edition – Irish Whiskey News
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 198: Redbreast Lustau Edition
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries the latest Redbreast. This Irish single pot still is loved by many and rightfully so. But for their Lustau Edition, they even went a step further and collaborated with the highly praised Lustau bodega in Jerez, Spain. Lustau created casks specifically for this Redbreast release. After 9 to 12 years of maturation on bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, the whiskey was finished for 12 months in the bespoke Lustau casks. The result is atypical, but delicious.
Whisky Wednesday – Midleton Very Rare – Irish Whiskey News
Continuing our Irish them, i had a great time on St. Patrick’s Day, how about the rest of you? Slight change to the usual setup, going old school today as our usual production guys are very busy so, here i am, in my living room! Midleton is a great distillery with a heritage and a history that rivals any distillery in the world. THis is the Very Rare, it’s the top line of the standard range and as a blended whisky it features products from grain and pot still all aged for roughly 15 years and upwards. If you like the delicacy of JW Blue but want a deeper and more Irish feel to everything, this is the one for you! Cheers!
Whisky Wednesday – Method in Madness Single Grain – Irish Whiskey News
Whisky Wednesday – Method in Madness Single Grain
Making whisky fun and experimental is one of the true benefits of being in an industry with such creative people doing the rounds. This part of trilogy from Midleton has really caught my attention in every conceivably brilliant way. Method in Madness is a 46% Single Grain whisky, aged in ex-Bourbon barrels and then finished in Spanish Virgin Oak….what? Spanish VO is something I’ve never come across before and given the amount of whisky I’ve tried up until this point, i’m annoyed that nobody else has done it before, this is wonderful whisky! Innovative and classic at the same time with design and craftsmanship that can rival any big brand in any sector of whisky. Thrilled to own it! Cheers.
Whisky Wednesday reviews Bowmore Sherry Cask Finish – Scotch Whisky News
Bowmore. Cask Strength. Sherry Cask Finish. WIN, WIN, WIN! This is part 1/3 in a wine cask finishing trilogy. This bottle is focused on Manzanilla sherry barrels, a slightly dryer sherry that really brings out the saltier and more savory side of Bowmore. No need to talk lot about this one, the reaction in the video is totally worth it. check it out and let me know what you all think. Cheers.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 197: Macallan Edition No 3 – Scotch Whisky News
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 197: Macallan Edition No 3
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, publishes his first ever Macallan rambling! Three years ago Macallan launched the so-called Edition Series. No 1 is all but sold out (or very expensive on the secondary market), while No 2 is getting there. No 3 – the one I will be trying now – was recently released and can still be found. Bob Delgarno, Macallan’s whisky maker, worked together with Master Perfumer Roja Dove – who previously helped Macallan create their aroma kit. It is composed of no less than 6 cask types, most of them first fill sherry for which Macallan is known. It is cut down to 48.3% ABV. And yes, it is outstanding!
Whisky Wednesday Reviews Macallan 12 Double Cask – Scotch Whisky News
So, Macallan, somewhat of an elephant in the room these days. The Double Cask is a combination of European Oak & American Oak seasoned sherry casks, i’m not sure how long “seasoned” details in length of time in sherry but it’s a fairly common trait in whisky maturation these days.
I’m a fan of sherry cask whiskies and classic Macallans’ like the 12YO and the No. 2 Edition are key examples of how good Macallan can be and for me, personally, this whisky is a very two dimensional and really lacks depth, especially for the price tag of £70. If you like it, then you like it, everyone is different but this is a product that won’t grace my whisky shelf.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 196: Aultmore 14 Year Old 2002 for MMM – Scotch Whisky News
Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 196: Aultmore 14 Year Old 2002 for MMM
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, releases another whisky in his MMM-series. For MMM – short for Mark & Manny’s Malts – Mark again had again had the pleasure of seeking out a special cask. They turned to lesser known Aultmore and found a bourbon cask from 2002 that hit all the right spots for them. It is the first release in their Antarctica Series, where the labels show fantastic photos of the cold continent taken by Belgian photographer Ilse Everaert. Enjoy!
