Whisky Wednesday Reviews Ledaig – Scotch Whisky News

PHIL

Ledaig! Hard to pronounce and sometimes even more difficult to find in the wild of whisky hunting. This one, however, seems to be much more attainable and is it worth it? Yes! OH MY GOD, YES! What an absolute monster of a whisky! Personally, i think this leaves Octomore in it’s wake. Huge sherry nose, waves of smoke, salty, briny, bacon-y, smoky sweet goodness, all wrapped up into a neat little package. Easily, one of the best whiskies I’ve ever had the fortune to try. Cheers!

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 235: Strathearn 2014 Private Cask – Scotch Whisky News

MarkNew

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 235: Strathearn 2014 Private Cask

Mark Dermul, Belgian whiskyblogger, tries young whisky from an equally young distillery. Strathearn is a new Highland distillery – probably ‘Scotland’s smallest’ as they claim – that started production in 2013. While the spirit matures to become whisky, only a handful of single casks are currently being put out for the members of their so-called Private Cask Club. This cask – ex-sherry cask #075 containing whisky from non-peated spirit – was released for the Dutch Whisky Society and was also the festival bottling of the Dutch Whisky Festival in September 2017. Only 64 bottles were released at cask strength.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Highland Park Whisky Shop Exclusive – Scotch Whisky News

PHIL

Limited edition single barrels are plenty at the minute, be it in England, Germany, Netherlands and, well, everywhere really. This one though is a little different. Highland Park have been on a run with a lot of releases in the last 12 months, this has been hand selected by The Whisky Shop because of it’s remarkable complexity…also it’s 67%! 67%!! Now, this is one of the only whiskies where I’ve added water to both a little and large degree and it’s one of the only liquids where the ‘classic’ style is found once it’s taken down to 50% ABV, 45% ABV and 40% ABV –  but before that, it’s a tropical, almost rum flavoured, toffee and banana bomb with exotic spices fuelling it’s presence and power. It’s in all honesty, one of the finest examples of complex and big flavoured whisky I’ve ever come across.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 234: Strathmill 10 Year Old 2007 The Ultimate – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 234: Strathmill 10 Year Old 2007 The Ultimate

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a Strathmill. Did you know that Strathmill only got that name in 1994? Before that, she was called Glenisla-Glenlivet named after the Isla river nearby. But two decades ago she was renamed Strathmill in honor of the mill that was built there in 1823. There are hardly any official releases, because the lion’s share of production goes to the blenders with Justerini & Brooks as biggest customer. Mark, however, tries a very young independent Strathmill 2007 from the Dutch company Van Wees in their series ‘The Ultimate’.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 233: Aberlour 15 Year Old Cuvée Marie d’Ecosse – Scotch Whisky News

MarkNew

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, enjoys whisky even on holiday. During his stay in France, he visited a whisky shop in Marseille and found that the Aberlour 15 Year Old Cuvée Marie d’Ecosse is a bestseller there. So he got himself a bottle, found a lovely spot in the heart of the beautiful city on the Côte d’Azur and gave it a try. Despite the fact that it is only sherry finished, the whisky offers up beautiful candied notes and is indeed a lovely dram.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews a Single Cask GlenDronach – Scotch Whisky News

PHIL

It’s arrived! It’s open! A whisky that summarises big sherry like nothing i’ve come across in a long time. We all know how good GlenDronach is, there’s no need to praise it more than is needed. This though, one off single barrel, cask strength, a combination of sweet, almost Bourbon-esque flavours; custard, nutmeg, oak spice and caramel. After this though, the sherry comes through; cinnamon, raisins, sweet, dark sherry and dried fruits that pile up as if they’re actually layered throughout the bottle. Unbelievable. Cheers!
