Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 408: Gouden Carolus Sherry Oak
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a Belgian single malt. The Sherry Oak from distillery De Molenberg is a standard expression, which means always available. It concerns the Gouden Carolus single malt that – as always – is distilled from their Tripel, but after the regular maturation in bourbon barrels got a finish on oloroso sherry casks. It gives it a nice, warm glow.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 407: Gouden Carolus Rabelo
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a Belgian single malt. Every year, an Anniversary Edition of the De Molenberg whisky is released. This is the one from 2020, called Rabelo after the boats that were used in the Douro Valley to transport port barrels. It literally means ‘little tail’, a reference to the small rudder on the boat. After 36 months of maturation on a classic bourbon cask, this malt was given a finish of 28 months on a barrel that – you guessed it – previously contained port. White port, mind you. And the whisky is therefore just over 5 years old.

Well, I never thought I’d have the opportunity to try this holy whisky grail! Mark has been kind enough to send me a sample of this literal gem in the eyes of Macallan collectors, and I can’t thank him enough for it, truly.
Released in 1996 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Private Eye Magazine at a wonderful sum of £36 per bottle. Macallan Private Eye has become one of thee must have bottles for whisky collectors all across the planet. I, luckily, am one of the few folks that have been privileged to try it, let alone score it. So here we go. https://youtu.be/d0yELUkx0-0

A distillery that I’ve loved since the first sip. Not only do Ardnamurchan produce some of the freshest and newest whisky on the west coast of Scotland, but they also do it with a very unique flair. From the box to the bottle, the ABV to the mascot, there is something ever reaching and special about what is coming out of those stills and barrels.
This release has a wonderful lemony approach, surrounded by malty biscuits, dry, subtle smoke and a bitterness that is complex and very adult in how it tells its tale.
Another must have expression from the west coast new kids.

Welcome to this weeks episode of the show. This week I fancied doing some American stuff, so I grabbed 6 random samples and this is the end result!

Welcome to this weeks episode of the show in which I’ll be taking a look at some new releases from Hannah Whisky Merchants Lady of the Glen label. Todays line up includes a Dufftown! Ooh err missus!
