Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 392: Springbank 23 Year Old 1996 Private Bottling – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 392: Springbank 23 Year Old 1996 Private Bottling

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries an outstanding Springbank. He was fortunate to try this Private Bottling a few weeks ago in a fabulous tasting with Michiel Wigman and Jeroen Koetsier. So once it became available to the public, Mark hurried to secure a bottle. Brace yourself, for it’s a belter as the logo – reminiscent of the son of Krypton – suggests. ‘Nuff said.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 391: Passionate about Pittyvaich – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 391: Passionate about Pittyvaich

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, puts no less than 6 whisky’s head-to-head! He recently hosted a unique online masterclass in which all six of the official releases from this closed distillery were presented, from the 12 years old in the Fauna & Flora series to all five Diageo Special Releases: 20 years old, 25 years old, 28 years old, 29 years old and 30 years old. This 25 years old was definitely grand, bottled at cask strength. So sit back and relax and pour yourself something tasty. Enjoy.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Yamazaki 12YO Pure Malt, 1980’s – Japanese Whisky News

https://youtu.be/ajC79V1CGoM

A rather cool video this week, courtesy of friend of the show, Mark Littler!

He’s sent us this bottle of 1980’s Yamazaki 12 Pure Malt to examine, quite a contrast to the current bottle that’s on sale. Big on exotic fruits, this could honestly be one of my favourite noses ever on a whisky. But how does it taste? How has living in a bottle for nearly four decades impacted it?

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 390: Caol Ila 3 Year Old 2018 ‘One Day Old’ The Whisky Jury

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a whisky that is one day old! The Whisky Jury – a Belgian independent bottler – has spoiled us in the past with lovely single casks. For the 14th release he selected a first fill quarter cask that was filled with Coal Ila spirit on the 9th February 2018 and bottled on the 10th February 2021. Hence the funny tagline ‘one day old’. Only 152 bottles were available at the very fair price of 49 EUR and hence they flew off the shelves. Mark feels lucky that he was able to get a bottle.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 389: Glenrothes 24 Year Old 1996 The Barrel Barron – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 389: Glenrothes 24 Year Old 1996 The Barrel Barron

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, enjoys a stunning Glenrothes. The new Dutch independent bottler The Barrel Baron has just released his second bottling. ‘I’m proud to say that I was asked to taste it before the cask selection was made and like to think my appraisal had something to do with it’ Mark boasts. The label is also a nice sequel to the previous release’s, which I also enjoyed a lot. This was is equally good! It’s a single cask – a sherry butt – on which the spirit of Glenrothes has slept for just over a quarter century.
