Whisky Wednesday Reviews Jefferson’s 20YO. 47% – American Whiskey News

https://youtu.be/R13-1k-J1iw

I’ve not done a Jefferson’s video for a long, long time. But it’s better late than never.

As an NDP, Jefferson’s are still knocking out some of the best batch bourbon products on the market, and they’re doing it at a decent price point.

This is bottle 1032 of Batch 1, unsure of the liquids origins, but as a bottled product it is quite excellent. Loads of butterscotch, caramel and baked cheesecake on the nose. The palate is a complex and atypical style. It begins bitter with gentian root and loads of oak, but as that dies away, a wealth of mint, raspberry and cherry comes around, all backed up with spoonfuls of butterscotch and toffee on the finish.

Excellent bourbon, lovely bottle, appropriately priced when available, something worth trying if and when you can find it.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Sazerac 18YO, Summer 2017 bottling – American Whisky News

https://youtu.be/ZOioBRE15tI

The Sazerac 18YO. A whisky that deserves a title, some sort of American knighthood, something that involves a cape.

Older rye is hard to come across, not something that works well from every distillery. But when it comes to Buffalo Trace…well, they’ve still not accepted my marriage proposal.

A whisky with a sweeter, older, alluring nose: tobacco leaf, spearmint and lemon skin. But as the stuff drowns you in luxurious texture, tastes of turmeric, gara marsala, cigar smoke, more gentle lemon and a bright finish of fresh mint julep cocktails.

True luxury and exuberance from the folks at Buffalo Trace. A whisky that truly elevates the blue collar comeradary of rye whisky.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Craigellachie 12YO ‘Darkness’ 52.5% – Scotch Whisky News

https://youtu.be/flTpAsSToKU

Sherry divides me. Some days I adore its influence, others I see it as a mask for not great distillate. Kind of like what distortion can do for bad guitarists. But now, more and more indie bottlers are taking advantage of Octave Casks, Quarter Casks. Blood Tubs, etc. All to give a deeper, darker product for what is the average price of a cool single cask whisky. This Craigellachie is a very cool example of that. A wonderful colour, great nose, but a finish that is a little…underwhelming. If it says Craigellachie then I would like to be able to taste a little more of it. The colour is captivating, but has it got in the way of making it a better whisky?
