Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 433: Nc’nean Quiet Rebels Annabel
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries another Nc’nean. I think you can safely say that Mark is a fan of Nc’nean. He’s tasted the first ten batches and it’s become a bit of a daily sipper for him. So accessible and pleasantly priced that he can drink it daily without any problems. But they recently launched the so-called Quiet Rebels series – an ode to the distillery’s employees, each time vatting something special – and start with the distillery’s leading lady: Annabel Thomas. In addition to the classic bourbon and STR casks, she now also chose Tokaji and sherry casks. Tokaji is the oldest type of wine made in Hungary. Mark was very excited to try this.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Rittenhouse Rye 100 – American Whiskey News
You know when you find out you’re wrong but it’s okay because the whisky is still great? Had that with Rittenhouse.
Been telling people for years that it’s 65%+ rye mashbill. Turns out it’s just 51%. More Kentucky than it’s Pennsylvania roots would assume. Anyway! At four years old, 50% ABV and £40 per bottle…seriously folks, if your whisky preferences lean stateside, all you really need is a bottle of this, Wild Turkey 101 and Makers 46. Bold statement but I’m sticking by it.
Rye is a devisive style, can be too dry for some, but this is full of quite exotic fruits and warm honey notes. So don’t be too put off by the word ‘rye’. Embrace it for it’s full flavoured style and rather affordable price point.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews a Ben Nevis 10YO Vertica – Scotch Whisky News
This week, John Drinks was kind enough to have me help in dissecting the differences between the new Ben Nevis 10YO and the older and much more illusive bottling.
Needless to say that the contrast of the two is a chasm in comparison to a few small discrepancies of house style. It’s a real shame that those older Nevis bottles weren’t regularly available as they would’ve really cemented their place as one of the most unusual spirits in all of Scotland.
Cheers!
