Big lover of Benromach and all the things they do. But I do have a bee in my bonnet about everyone’s obsession with ‘quality’ whiskies being atleast 46% ABV and non-chill filtered. It’s as if all whisky MUST have these boxes ticked in order to be judged and reviewed upon by the whisky overlords of YouTube and beyond. But not all whiskies that tick those boxes are objectively good, and that’s a fact.

This is an excellent whisky, as is the whole Benromach range. Being owned by Gordon and Macphail, it’s doubtful that the family begind G&M are sat in a boardroom, plotting and scheming about how annoyed people will be that there standard range isn’t 46% ABV.

On taste alone, Benromach 15YO is an outstanding product, from an excellent distillery and it provides something different from your typical and sometimes, very boring, Speysode whisky portfolio.

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, is intrigued. A new Belgian bottler has emerged: The Roots. But Joren Nuyts, the sympathetic guy behind this new brand, will not limit himself to whisky. We can also expect other spirits, he told Mark. And he immediately put his money where his mouth was, because his first release concerns triplets: a Scottish grain, a very old cognac and a solid rum. What? The first release is not Scottish single malt? Gutsy! Mark immediately put those triplets on the lips, curious as he is. This is his review of the grain, an Invergordon of no less than 49 years old, distilled when Mark was a toddler of 2.

Four Roses. Not much more needs to be said really, does it?

Their core range is some of the finest bourbon on the face of the planet, and this, their single barrel offering, is quite extraordinary for the money you pay for it.

Four Roses ability to experiment means that their single barrel stocks are some of the most diverse in the world of bourbon, so when something stands out to them, it really does to us as well.

Ashamed that it’s taken so long for me to review this, but here we are!
