Balblair Vintage 1983 has been continually praised in 2014, Jim Murray, the world’s leading whisky guide, has recognised it as the best whisky in the 28-34 year old (multiple casks) category awarding the Vintage an incredible 96.5/100 points. This latest award will sit alongside Gold Outstanding & Gold medals awarded at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and International Spirits Challenge awards earlier this year.

Bringing the monumental journey full circle, the decanter is housed in an elegant display case, crafted from the very cask that matured the whisky to perfection.

Tasting Notes..

Colour: amber

Nose: fresh juicy fruits, lots of fragrant orange notes, peaches and dark cherries. With time becomes creamier with spearmint and then some blackcurrant cordial.

Taste: rich and oily, dried oranges, delicate oak and milk chocolate. Soft kiwi fruits, lychee and more creaminess emerge with time.

Finish: lingering toffee, stewed fruits, praline and some fresher grassy notes.

Comment: a big robust whisky but ultimately soft and soothing.

Colour: Deep Orange Red.
Body: Rich and complex.
Finish: Subtle smoke with Sherry influences.
Cask Type: Sherry Butts.
Style: Robust – yet smooth.

Tasting Notes..
AROMA without water: Rich, baked fruit aromas – sultanas, prunes and figs all present. A little peat smoke on the edge.
TASTE without water: Sherry wood with rich fruitiness and a burnt/toasted malt edge. With traces of liquorice.
AROMA with water: A little sweetness now present – tracle toffee. Rich fruit cake aromas with charred oak notes.
TASTE with water: Some smoke initially, with an oily woodiness. Rich burnt fruit flavours.
