Diageo launches first 70cl paper-based bottle on-trade trial for Johnnie Walker – Scotch Whisky News

Diageo, the maker of Guinness, Don Julio Tequila and Smirnoff Vodka today announces a first-of-its-kind 90% paper-based bottle trial for Johnnie Walker Black Label exclusively at Johnnie Walker Princes Street’s 1820 bar, in Edinburgh.

DIAGEO LAUNCHES FIRST 70CL PAPER-BASED BOTTLE ON-TRADE TRIAL FOR JOHNNIE WALKER

Created in partnership with PA Consulting, as part of the Bottle Collective with PA and PulPac, this is Diageo’s first paper-based 70cl bottle trial in the on-trade. The trial begins tomorrow and will assess how bartenders interact with and pour from the bottle, and how the bottle fares in a bar environment. A total of 250 paper-based bottles will be used with the trial expected to run until mid-October. Members of the public will be able to see the bottles in use behind the bar, however they cannot purchase the bottle.

This will be the second paper-based bottle trial from Diageo and PA, following the success of the Baileys paper-based bottle mini format (80ml) trial, using a similar Dry Molded Fiber innovation at the Time Out Festival in Barcelona earlier this year. The design team have taken learnings from the technical aspects of the miniature format, to make a larger and more complex shape for Johnnie Walker. The bottle’s design retains the iconic square shape of Johnnie Walker Black Label, whilst enhancing the premium appeal with unique facets cut into the sides of the bottle and embossing of the Striding Man on the bottle and closure.

Jennifer English, Johnnie Walker Global Brand Director, says: “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation to not only deliver the premium quality and iconic design our customers expect from us, but to do so in a way that reflects our sustainability ambitions.”

“The paper-based bottle trial for Johnnie Walker Black Label marks a significant step forward in our journey. This test allows us to explore new packaging in the high intensity environment of the on-trade. We are pioneering new packaging solutions and shaping the future of the industry.”

The trial bottle is made from 90% paper and a very thin plastic liner. The innovative technology makes the paper-based bottle approximately 60% lighter, with initial external life cycle analysis on the prototype showing an up to 47% potential reduction in carbon emissions (1), compared to the Johnnie Walker Black Label glass bottle equivalent. The bottle closure was developed in collaboration with PulPac, Setop DIAM and PA and is made from a unique combination of cork and similar Dry Molded Fiber paper technology as the bottle. It is only intended for use during the trial and excluded from calculations.

The Johnnie Walker Black Label paper-based bottle for this test is designed considering recyclability among other aspects. The plastic liner is designed to not require consumer or bartender disassembly, as it is not attached or bonded to the outer paper layer, assisting recycling facilities to separate without disrupting the recycling process (2). The stopper used for trial purposes is not recyclable, however alternative solutions are in development. Throughout the trial and further development of the paper-based bottle, the recycling capability will be a key factor for future versions of the bottle as we continue to test, learn and develop.

Jamie Stone, Design and Innovation Expert at PA Consulting, adds: “PA is delighted to have worked with Diageo and PulPac to produce these paper-based bottles for Johnnie Walker Black Label. These bottles break new ground in packaging design and shows the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions, whilst seeking to maintain the elegance, luxury, and bottle size expected in the premium drinks market.”

“PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber technology opens up new possibilities for cost-effective, lightweight, less carbon intensive and more sustainable packaging. We look forward to collecting feedback from bartenders and the public following the market trial, so we can test and refine the bottle and technology further.”

Diageo and Johnnie Walker continue to explore paper formats across the wider portfolio as a means to reduce carbon emissions. This includes an ongoing partnership with Pulpex as they continue to develop and internally test their initial concept paper-based bottle, which is currently in feasibility testing.

Beyond paper-based solutions, the brand recently introduced Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra, the word’s lightest whisky glass bottle, weighing just 180g without the stopper, the result of years of experimentation and innovation. Featuring a unique teardrop shape, lattice stopper, and bamboo frame to bring luxury and simplicity together. While Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra is a design experiment, the insights gained will guide future glass lightweighting initiatives across the Diageo portfolio.

These latest innovations form part of Diageo’s ambition to reduce its carbon footprint by exploring new packaging formats, including the launch of a 70cl aluminium spirits bottle with Baileys, a global licensing agreement with circular economy technology company ecoSPIRITS, and removing the cardboard gift boxes in its premium Scotch portfolio to reduce excess packaging.

LCA report carried out by independent external specialist indicating potential Climate Change (kg CO2 eq.) savings of up to 47% compared to the 70cl glass Johnnie Walker Black Label bottle. Savings to be confirmed as we continue to test, learn, iterate and refine the technology, post the trial and prior to scaled versions.

Dry Molded Fiber bottle prototypes have been shown to be suitable for recycling in standard paper mills through the CEPI test method. We received some positive results from initial tests of prototypes from a large recycler in the UK, ongoing tests with leading waste management companies and recyclers are continuing in UK and other EU markets. Recyclability to be confirmed for future trials and any scaled launch of the bottles, as we continue to test, learn and iterate, if need be and will remain a key design consideration. We’ve answered some of the most common questions in a video on YouTube, watch below to find out more.

THE GLENLIVET REDEFINES TRADITION WITH THE RELEASE OF ITS OLDEST SINGLE MALT – Scotch Whisky News

THE GLENLIVET REDEFINES TRADITION WITH THE RELEASE OF ITS OLDEST SINGLE MALT

The 55 year-old expression – the highest age statement ever to be released by The Glenlivet – is unveiled as it marks a 200-year legacy.

The Glenlivet, the iconic Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, has unveiled a masterpiece that celebrates its excellence in whisky craftsmanship and design, embodying the originality that has defined it since its inception in 1824: The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, First Edition, 55 Year Old, in collaboration with computational architect, Michael Hansmeyer.

A true rarity, The Glenlivet’s oldest and most ambitious expression to date comprises just 100 beautifully crafted bottles, while every aspect of the new release has been considered with meticulous attention to detail. Crafted from a seasoned sherry cask and carefully matured over more than five decades, this precious single malt offers a complex flavour profile and astonishingly long finish.

In partnership with pioneering artist, Michael Hansmeyer, the 55 Year Old single malt whisky sits within a strikingly beautiful sculpture that takes inspiration from the home of The Glenlivet. Mirroring the eternal essence and flow of the River Livet, which is located deep in the Spey Valley where The Glenlivet was born, Hansmeyer brought his unique expertise in computational architecture to create this highly original art piece.

With hand-sculpted jesmonite and rose-gold plating, the sculpture perfectly houses the spherical decanter of the 55 Year Old. In a stunning display of contemporary modelling through computer programming, this art piece brings subtle intricacies that are testament to the craftsmanship at the heart of every creation from The Glenlivet.

Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Master who was responsible for directing the final maturation years of the 55 Year Old whisky, describes the taste experience as “a medley of autumn fruits, sun-drenched Seville oranges and sticky dates enveloped by the spiced warmth of cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose, alongside the sweet, warming flavours of homemade blackcurrant jam and vanilla fudge, balanced with zesty citrus notes on the palate.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind the sculpture Michael Hansmeyer, computational architect & programmer, explained:

“My work captures the intersection of architecture and the arts. It is a laboratory for experimenting with new possibilities, and that is where I saw the harmony in collaborating with The Glenlivet. Weaving threads of intelligent technologies to create something that escapes conformity and classification to celebrate such an aged whisky has been a thrill. I created this sculpture as a tribute to the complexity of The Glenlivet’s oldest expression and the rugged beauty of the distillery’s Scottish landscape, capturing the spirit of where innovation meets tradition.”

This exceptional 55 Year Old single malt is the First Edition of The Glenlivet Eternal Collection – a new range of highly collectable precious whiskies, released annually. All future releases, each taken from a single, extraordinary cask, will be aged for one additional year and will be accompanied by an original artform crafted by a new visionary artist. Together, this will create a collection to cherish.

Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Master added:

“The 55 Year Old is the highest age Scotch ever released from The Glenlivet Distillery, and combined with the incredible talent of Michael, it tells of the timelessness of The Glenlivet. Thanks to decades of collaboration from our team of cask experts, past and present, the introduction of The Eternal Collection represents a monumental moment for whisky connoisseurs and luxury appreciators to add a pivotal piece of Scotch whisky legacy to their collection. It epitomises The Glenlivet’s commitment to excellence within Scotch innovation as we continue to push to creative new heights in single malts.”

The First Edition of The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, will be released in September 2024. The masterpiece was first unveiled during an exclusive 200 year anniversary celebration hosted at The Glenlivet’s iconic distillery in Speyside, Scotland. The Glenlivet Distillery is open for guests to explore the full portfolio from The Glenlivet and enjoy interactive visitor experiences.

In tandem with the launch of its oldest single malt, and to further honour its 200th anniversary, The Glenlivet has partnered with Sotheby’s to create a unique auction lot.  A bespoke 55 Year Old single malt whisky presented with a one-of-a-kind Hansmeyer sculpture will be available exclusively at auction from 18th October – 1st November 2024, with all proceeds to benefit National Trust for Scotland, dedicated to conserving Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage.

The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, First Edition: 55-Year-Old in collaboration with Michael Hansmeyer, will be available exclusively at The Whisky Exchange for RRP €50,000. For more information, visit theglenlivet.com or follow @theglenlivet. To register early interest in the one-of-one auction, visit www.sothebys.com/theglenlivet55.

GlenAllachie 17yo Mizunara & Oloroso Cask Finish – Scotch Whisky News

MIZUNARA AND OLOROSO CASK FINISH LAUNCHED BY THE GLENALLACHIE

Award-winning Scotch whisky brand releases rare Mizunara and Oloroso-finished whisky

Leading independent Scotch whisky distillery The GlenAllachie debuts the first single malt to join its Master of Wood series: a 17-year-old Mizunara & Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish.

Spearheaded by whisky maker of 52 years, Billy Walker, the multi-award-winning Speyside producer is known for its flair for sourcing and managing both quality and unusual casks from around the world.

The new 17-year-old expression (UK RRSP £260.99) features whisky matured in rare Mizunara oak barrels combined with spirit from rich Oloroso Sherry puncheons and hogsheads.

Mizunara is a scarce Japanese oak seldom used for whisky maturation due to its high cost and the challenges it poses in coopering and maturation. Its tendency to twist as it grows can create issues during stave production, and its porous nature means its casks are inclined to leak.

Translating to ‘water oak’ in English, Mizunara has very low tannins but high levels of vanilla-flavoured compounds. Its casks typically impart notes of sweet spices, sandalwood and charred oak.

Produced in Spain’s Andalusia region, Oloroso is a dry Sherry style subjected to lengthy oxidative ageing without a ‘flor’ yeast layer. It is known for its dark colour and pronounced nutty, dried fruit qualities.

The unique expression is the first in the brand’s new Masters of Wood series: a super-premium arm of its Wood Collection reserved for its most luxurious and experimental wood finishes.

The distillery’s tagline ‘Whisky in Good Hands’ and the new Masters of Wood series solidify The GlenAllachie’s standing as cask experts within the Scotch whisky arena.

The Mizunara & Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish is presented at 50% ABV, without artificial colouring or chill filtration.

Commenting on the high-end expression, Walker shares:

“As a chemist, I find both cask management and blending truly fascinating. This release combines the finest and rarest of casks with carefully considered blending. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Mizunara, a very uncommon Japanese oak that provides exceptional character but, in turn, throws plenty of challenges our way. Having said that, the result is beyond worth the trials and tribulations.

“The flavour delivery from the Mizunara barrels, interwoven with the nutty, spicy character of the Oloroso casks, culminates in a spectacular single malt with delectable notes of apple strudel, runny honey, chocolate-covered hazelnuts and stem ginger. This is indulgence at its finest.”

With a UK RRSP of £260.99, The GlenAllachie 17-year-old Mizunara & Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish will become increasingly available from today at specialist retailers globally.

ABOUT THE GLENALLACHIE:

At The GlenAllachie, each decision in creating our award-winning Speyside single malt merges logic with instinct. In the experienced hands of legendary whisky maker Billy Walker, a culture of precision, patience and perseverance has been instilled in his small yet accomplished team of whisky experts.

Penelope Bourbon introduces premium 2024 Estate Collection

Highly sought-after releases showcase the finest blends, barrels and finishes of aged barrel stocks

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 25, 2024) – Penelope Bourbon introduced its new Estate Collection of limited-availability aged whiskey and bourbon releases – Founders Reserve, Private Select and Single Barrel. The collection represents the pinnacle of Penelope’s craftsmanship, from hand-selected barrels to meticulously crafted blends. The new premium releases spotlight masterful innovations in aged wheat whiskey, exquisite blends of aged straight bourbon whiskey and exceptional hand-selected single barrel bourbon.

The 2024 Estate Collection reflects Penelope Bourbon Founder and Master Blender Danny Polise’s passion for bourbon making as a journey of discovery and reinvention. To create the collection, Polise and his team evolved the brand beyond Penelope’s well-known 4- to 6-year-aged offerings by selecting 9- to 11-year superior-aged barrels to develop the releases.

“It was a thrill to explore the warehouses and hunt for the perfect barrels to create the collection,” said Polise. “We pride ourselves on the details in blending, and took a hands-on approach to find specific nuances and variations in order to curate these releases. The result is an outstanding premium collection illustrating the breadth of both fine distillate and blending.”

The exceptional craftsmanship of the Penelope Estate Collection demonstrates the brand’s commitment to offering a portfolio of high-quality aged products sought out by aficionados, and hand-crafted in limited allocations by Penelope’s signature standards.

“Innovation and quality are at the heart of everything we do, and the 2024 Estate Collection takes those characteristics to an entirely new level,” said Michael Paladini, founder, Penelope Bourbon and vice president of strategy, MGP Ingredients. “These three releases showcase the best of the best in our rickhouses, allowing us to create one-of-a-kind aged whiskeys that take Penelope to new heights. Each product in the Estate Collection is unique – from the blend to the age and the mash bill. There’s something in this collection for everyone.”

Penelope Founders Reserve features 24 barrels of experimental straight wheat whiskey with a mash bill of 95% wheat and 5% barley malt aged 11 years in charred new American oak barrels at the historic Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Polise and the Penelope team tapped into the distillery’s rich heritage to seek out and batch unique and rare spirits in five lots, and bottled the whiskey at cask strength to give each its own character, offering connoisseurs a unique and varied tasting experience. Each bottle of Founders Reserve is packaged in a dark green box featuring rich gold embossed Penelope Bourbon Estate Collection branding. The interior of the box lists complete details for all five lots.

Founders Reserve imparts an aroma of rich caramelized sugar and vanilla bean with a touch of cherry, flavors of maple buttercream frosting with hints of white pepper and a bit of oak, and a savory finish with lingering notes of brown sugar and toffee. Each of the five lots features a unique proof point:

Very limited quantities of Founders Reserve will be available for a minimum suggested retail price of $199.00 at Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, Kentucky, and through e-commerce partners in select markets beginning in the October/November timeframe.

ABOUT ELIJAH CRAIG BOURBON: Elijah Craig Bourbon bears the name of the Reverend Elijah Craig, known as “The Father of Bourbon,” who established his distillery in 1789 on the banks of Elkhorn Creek in modern day Georgetown, Kentucky. He is credited with being the first distiller to age his wares in charred oak barrels. The clear, unaged corn liquor became transformed into a bold amber liquid with a distinctively smooth flavor that makes Bourbon what it is today. Produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the family of whiskeys includes Elijah Craig Small Batch, Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and Elijah Craig Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. First brought to market in 1986, Heaven Hill Distillery’s Master Distillers were selecting a small number of barrels of the finest Bourbon to make Elijah Craig Small Batch long before the term “small batch” even existed. DEWAR’S® BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY CONTINUES LEGACY WITH U.S. OPEN: UNVEILING THE FOURTH EDITION OF “THE CHAMPION’S EDITION” 19 YEAR OLD WHISKY

Celebrating the 124th U.S. Open in Pinehurst, the newest iteration of DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition is finished in First-Fill Rye Whisky Casks

DEWAR’S® Blended Scotch Whisky introduces the fourth iteration of DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition. Crafted to honor the enduring collaboration between DEWAR’S and the U.S. Open Championship, this limited-edition whisky celebrates the 124th U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club.

Described as the cradle of American golf, the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club was originally designed by Scotland-born Donald Ross as a stateside golf club along the sands of the Carolinas that harkened back to his homeland. With a similar mission to bridge rich heritage and modern innovation, DEWAR’S Blended Scotch Whisky honors the best of Scotland, Scotch, and golf with the release of DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition.

Crafted under the expertise of five-time Master Blender of the Year, Stephanie Macleod , at 43% ABV for a nuanced flavor profile, the 2024 expression showcases the brand’s signature double aging process and is finished in first-fill rye whisky casks, producing a Blended Scotch Whisky that is as rich and refined as the sport of golf itself. Commencing with ripe notes of pear and heather honey, it evolves into a spicy tapestry, imparting hints of cinnamon and cocoa powder that gently warms the palate, leading to a refreshing finish.

Continuing its tradition, DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition returns for its fourth year, having previously finished in Napa Valley red wine casks in 2023, American oak & rye casks in 2022, and first-fill ex-bourbon casks in 2021.

Additionally, at the 124th U.S. Open, DEWAR’S proudly reintroduces the official cocktail of the championship, the Lemon Wedge. The refreshing, citrus-forward cocktail features the acclaimed DEWAR’S 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, and is infused with lemonade and club soda, delivering the perfect accompaniment for enjoying every moment of the competition.

Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender for DEWAR’S commented: “Crafting DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition for the 124th U.S. Open has been a remarkable journey, echoing the precision and finesse of the sport itself. The marriage of our distinguished 19 Year Old whisky, a unique age statement within the category, with the distinctive character of first-fill rye whisky casks has resulted in a symphony of flavors that pays homage to both the rich heritage of Scotch whisky and the enduring allure of golf. With each sip, the liquid reveals notes of cinnamon and cocoa, leading to a smooth finish that lingers on the palate.”

Brian Cox, Vice President of DEWAR’s North America commented: “Throughout the centuries, golf has woven a tapestry of camaraderie, competition, and celebration—a tradition cherished by enthusiasts worldwide. With the release of Dewar’s 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition for the 124th U.S. Open, we honor this timeless connection between the sport and the shared moments that follow. Just as golfers gather at the 19th hole to recount their tales of the course, this special-edition whisky becomes an integral part of this ritual—a companion to the stories shared, the bonds strengthened, and the memories made.”

Making the perfect Father’s Day gift this season, the fourth iteration of the DEWAR’S 19 Year Old – The Champion’s Edition commemorative bottle will be available in limited quantities, exclusively at select fine wines and spirits retailers, as well as online via our website.

Lux Row Distillers introduces Small Batch PX Sherry Cask Finish

Latest addition to the Lux Row brand family will debut at the distillery in October before a nationwide release in early 2025

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 9, 2024) – Bardstown, Kentucky-based Lux Row Distillers is expanding its Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey family with the release of Lux Row Small Batch PX Sherry Cask Finish. The new release is crafted from small batches of 4-year-old ryed straight Kentucky bourbon finished for six months in casks that held PX Sherry, an intensely rich and sweet wine made from overly ripened, sun-dried grapes. Offered at 112 proof (56% ABV), Lux Row Small Batch PX Sherry Cask Finish will be available this October exclusively at the distillery for $59.99 per 750mL bottle. A nationwide release of Lux Row Small Batch PX Sherry Cask Finish is planned for early 2025.

The PX Sherry cask finish imparts an aromatic bouquet of dried figs and dates, and decadent flavors of grape syrup and candied fruit followed by hints of spice, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. The result is a unique and balanced pour.

“We wanted to meld the intensely sweet flavors of PX Sherry with the spicy, peppery notes of our ryed bourbon,” said Lux Row Master Distiller John Rempe. “The outcome is a delicious combination of two opposing yet complementary flavors that results in a truly unique expression.”

Lux Row Small Batch PX Sherry Cask Finish is the latest release in Lux Row’s award-winning lineup. The brand family includes fan favorite 12-year Double Barrel and last year’s addition, Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel, which recently earned a Platinum medal at the ASCOT Awards, and a Double Gold designation at the SIP Awards.

“Premium bourbon consumers want products that are unique and high-quality,” said Lux Row Brand Manager Eric Winter. “Our newest PX Sherry finish delivers on both fronts and provides an opportunity to grow the Lux Row brand by appealing to bourbon drinkers who seek out one-of-a-kind flavor options and taste profiles.”

WATERFORD DISTILLERY REVIVES 19th CENTURY GOLDTHORPE BARLEY FOR NEW HERITAGE WHISKY

WATERFORD DISTILLERY REVIVES 19th CENTURY GOLDTHORPE BARLEY FOR NEW HERITAGE WHISKY

Waterford Distillery has launched their latest bottling in their Heritage Barley Series, Heritage: Goldthorpe

Heritage: Goldthorpe will be the first time the barley variety has been used in drinks production in over 100 years

The barley used in this release is part of the distillery’s exploration of old and lost varieties of barley that blend with Ireland’s terroirs – creating rarer, more complex flavours

A limited number of Heritage: Goldthorpe whisky is available worldwide from today

23rd September 2024: Waterford Distillery, producer of the most naturally flavoursome single malts, has today launched its latest bottling in its Heritage barley series – Heritage: Goldthorpe.

Heritage: Goldthorpe is part of a limited release of 4,000 bottles and marks the first time that the barley variety – Goldthorpe – has been used for drinks production in over 100 years.

The new single malt whisky is the latest milestone in Waterford Distillery’s journey to uncover whisky’s most unique and complex flavours through different agricultural techniques and represents single malts crafted from resurrected barley varieties.

Heritage: Goldthorpe was originally discovered in 1889 as a single, fortuitous mutation in a field but vanished from the agricultural landscape decades ago, to be replaced by higher-yielding, less flavoursome barley varieties.

Working alongside Minch Maltings and the Irish Department for Agriculture, Food and Marine Waterford Distillery have spent the last three years upscaling the remaining 50 grams of Goldthorpe to create enough barley to sow the seeds in Irish fields and climate – its terroirs.

This landmark release offers whisky connoisseurs the first opportunity to taste the flavours of Goldthorpe as a single malt whisky in a century, with the first year’s distillation yielding only 162 barrels.

Pioneering plant breeder, Dr Hebert Hunter, who inspired the first Heritage bottling by Waterford Distillery using the 1959 Hunter variety, declared that the Goldthorpe variety had been “one of the best quality varieties in existence”.

This latest heritage release blends the best of modern technology to bring the old flavours back to life, matured fully in a mixture of 40% first-fill US Oak, 24% Virgin US Oak, 18% Premium French Oak and 18% Vin Doux Naturel casks.

Providing historic flavours to a new generation of whisky connoisseurs, the whisky has aromas of lush vegetation, rich granola bar, berry compote, red apple, green tea, melon, roast beef gravy and prunes, with hints of sweet orchard fruits, apples and pears, cream, light spiciness, red berries, honey, cloves and raisins, giving the whisky a long dried fruit finish.

This limited yield contributes to the exclusivity of the whisky, making it a one-of-a-kind offering in the market.

Neil Conway, Head Brewer at Waterford Distillery, explains: “Our scientific investigations into the terroir of Irish barley uncovered a flavour uniformity in modern strains, leading us to revive lost historical varieties for their rich, distinctive profiles.

“The passion driving our latest limited edition is rooted in a deep respect for tradition and a bold curiosity for innovation. By reviving the 19th-century Goldthorpe barley, we’re not just crafting whisky; we’re reviving a piece of agricultural heritage. Each bottle from this batch is a celebration of history, a tribute to the craft, and a gift to the future of whisky-making.”

Heritage: Goldthorpe is bottled at 50% ABV. As with every Waterford Distillery release, a unique TÉIREOIR CODE on each bottle provides unprecedented validation and verification of its individual journey from barley to bottle – harvested, stored, malted, distilled and matured. Every meaningful detail of the whisky is offered for full transparency.

Heritage: Goldthorpe is available to purchase now from waterfordwhisky.com, Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange and worldwide at key retailers, priced at approx. 92/$102/£77 respectively.

About Waterford Whisky

Waterford Whisky produces the most naturally flavoursome single malts.

It is the world’s largest producer of organic and biodynamic whiskies.

It is agricultural produce, not a manufactured product.

Unashamedly influenced by the world’s greatest winemakers, Waterford Whisky obsessively brings the same intellectual drive, methodology and rigour to barley – the very source of malt whisky’s complex flavour.

Extolling a hundred exclusive farms of Irish-grown barley, the distillery searches for natural flavours via three paths: its Single Farm Origins pursue the individualism of terroir-derived flavour; its Arcadian Farm Origins express the intensity of flavour from alternative philosophies and long-forgotten varieties; whilst its Cuvée Concepts revel in the ultimate complexity, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
