Heaven Hill Distilleries Announces Release of 2014 Parker’s Heritage Collection Limited Edition Bottling – American Whiskey News

AA Parkers ALS

Eight Edition of annual ultra-premium release will feature rare 13-year-old cask strength wheat whiskey, continue support of ALS research and treatment.

BARDSTOWN, KY— Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc., the country’s largest independent family-owned and operated spirits producer and marketer, announces the 2014 limited edition release of Parker’s Heritage Collection. Heaven Hill, who holds the world’s second largest inventory of aging American Whiskey, will be shipping the rarity into selected markets across the country beginning in mid-September and it will hit retail shelves in September and October. The annual release of the Parker’s Heritage Collection bottling, of which this represents the eigth in the series, is always highly anticipated by whiskey lovers worldwide and the bottlings are some of the most lauded and coveted releases of the year.

This year, for the first time, Heaven Hill will be using an American Straight Whiskey style other than Bourbon for the Parker’s Heritage Collection release. The 2014 edition will feature 13-year-old straight wheat whiskey, bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered. The barrels used for this year’s offering were from the very first run of what later would become Bernheim Original Straight Wheat Whiskey. With a minimum of 51% soft winter wheat in the mashbill or grain recipe, Bernheim is the only straight wheat whiskey produced by a major American distiller and has been available since 2005. For this reason, this year’s Parker’s Heritage Collection release has been dubbed “Original Batch Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey”.

The release will be comprised of two small batch dumps, the first of which will be bottled at a robust 127.4° proof or 63.7% alcohol by volume. The cask strength and lack of chill filtering mean the whiskey is bottled much as it came out of the barrel after 13 years of aging on the top floors of Rickhouse Y on the Heaven Hill property in Bardstown. Heaven Hill announced in June that they were repackaging the Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey to add a 7 year age statement, but the additional 6 years of maturation gives the Parker’s Heritage Collection Original Batch Wheat Whiskey even greater complexity and depth. The soft, biscuity profile of Bernheim is tempered with additional oak and char notes, and the finish is long and spicy.

Heaven Hill Master Distiller Emeritus Parker Beam, for whom the acclaimed series is named, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also called ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease) several years ago. Last year’s edition of Parker’s Heritage Collection, called the “Promise of Hope” release, raised over $300,000 for the ALS Association’s Parker Beam Promise of Hope Fund through a $20 per bottle contribution made by Heaven Hill. Heaven Hill will continue with this cause-related campaign, and will contribute $5 from the average national retail cost of $89.99 for every 750ml bottle sold of this year’s “Original Batch” release to ALS research and treatment. With every past edition of Parker’s Heritage Collection selling out of Heaven Hill’s warehouses, the company expects to generate an additional $65,000 to battle ALS through this year’s edition, which is not as broad a release as last year’s “Promise of Hope” bottling.

This year’s release of Parker’s Heritage Collection promises to be a worthy successor to the previous seven releases, which, having won multiple awards from Whisky Advocate magazine, Whisky Magazine and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, stand as some of the most critically lauded American Whiskeys in recent memory. Past bottlings have won awards ranging from “Best North American Whiskey” to “American Whiskey of the Year” to “Best of Show, Brown Spirits.” As a result, the Parker’s Heritage Collection releases have become some of the most anticipated and sought after bottlings of every new year.

Packaged in the same upscale 750ml bottle as the previous six editions but with a buff colored label, the Parker’s Heritage Collection Original Batch Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey bottling reflects the care and craftsmanship of its contents. Available in a three bottle case, it will be featured on the shelves and back bars of the nation’s finest spirits retailers and on-premise operators starting in September. With the ever increasing interest in American Whiskeys, especially ultra-premium bottlings, consumers will have to act quickly to secure a sample of the rarity.

“American Whiskey connoisseurs have every year come to eagerly anticipate the announcement and introduction of the new Parker’s Heritage Collection release”, noted Susan Wahl, Senior Brand Manager for Whiskeys at Heaven Hill Distilleries. “With the additional interest of an extra aged wheat whiskey, the cause-related contributions to ALS treatment and all the attention the Ice Bucket Challenge has focused on it, we anticipate this year’s Parker’s Heritage Collection Original Batch Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey to be another highly regarded release.”

Founded in 1934, Bardstown, KY-based Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. (www.heavenhill.com) is the nation’s largest independent, family-owned and operated spirits producer and marketer and the world’s second-largest holder of Kentucky Bourbon. Heaven Hill’s diversified portfolio of brands includes Evan Williams Bourbon; Larceny , Elijah Craig and Henry McKenna Bourbons, Burnett’s Vodkas and Gin; Admiral Nelson’s and Blackheart Rums; HPNOTIQ Liqueur; The Christian Brothers Brandies; PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur; Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur; Lunazul Tequila; Cinerator Hot Cinnamon Flavored Whiskey and Rittenhouse Rye Whisky. THE SAVOY’S TOM WALKER REIMAGINES HERITAGE COCKTAILS TO CREATE THE DEWAR’S ‘TRUE SCOTCH’ COLLECTION

AA Dewars

Glasgow, Scotland, September 2014 – DEWAR’S(R), the world’s most awarded blended Scotch whisky, has collaborated with award-winning bartender, Tom Walker, to create the DEWAR’S TRUE SCOTCH collection – whisky cocktails inspired by heritage recipes, reimagined with a contemporary twist.

Tom Walker, bartender at The American Bar in The Savoy in London, which Tommy Dewar regularly frequented during his 26 year stay at the hotel, poured over classic cocktail bibles and picked through archive serves to select a series of heritage whisky cocktail recipes. He then adapted these with modern ingredients, techniques and garnishes to create the DEWAR’S TRUE SCOTCH collection.

The collection perfectly captures the DEWAR’S philosophy – TRUE SCOTCH SINCE 1846™ – and the brand’s status as the definitive blended Scotch whisky, distinguished by its peerless provenance, quality and craft.

Tom Walker comments: “The DEWAR’S TRUE SCOTCH collection was inspired by a cocktail-making ideology of ‘imaginative simplicity’ that is synonymous with the era and style of Harry Craddock – one of the most famous cocktail barmen of the 1920s and 1930s, who tended The American Bar when Tommy Dewar resided here at The Savoy when building works commenced on his former property at St James’s Street. Like Harry’s, the cocktails in this collection are classically styled and each can be traced back to some of the most iconic Scotch cocktails ever created, including the Rob Roy, Old Fashioned and Whisky Sour. However, each has an imaginative and untraditional twist that gives this collection of DEWAR’S cocktails a completely contemporary edge.”

The collection brings to life the craftsmanship of bartending and the remarkable heritage of DEWAR’S, while also raising a toast to the redesign of the whisky brand’s packaging and bottle design. This recent visual evolution to the Scotch brand founded by John Dewar in 1846 took it into the future, as the TRUE SCOTCH collection has done with the most classic of cocktail recipes.

The new packaging illuminates DEWAR’S remarkable heritage, enabling consumers to hold a piece of the DEWAR’S story in their hands every time they pick up a bottle. This story is expressed in every detail – from the bold colors, stoppers and seals to the bespoke typeface – all inspired and sourced from the extensive brand archive in Scotland. The most distinctive feature of the new DEWAR’S look is the trefoil Celtic truth knot that has been embossed onto the glass of every bottle. A powerful visual representation of DEWAR’S strength and longevity shows three interlocking ‘D’s that represent the three founders who first created the whisky – John Dewar and his sons, John Alexander Dewar and Tommy Dewar.

The DEWAR’S TRUE SCOTCH collection can be enjoyed at The American Bar in The Savoy, or recreated at home with the recipes below:

SCOTCHLAW

“This is a riff on the Scofflaw – a cocktail originally made with American whisky. The serve reflects a time when blended Scotch started to become popular in the USA, mainly thanks to the work of Tommy Dewar, at the end of the 19th Century. This was the same time that a liquor tax under the guise of ‘Raines Law’ was also introduced.”

2 oz DEWAR’S White Label

3/4 oz lemon juice

3/4 oz Noilly Prat(R) dry vermouth

1/2 oz Grenadine

2 dashes of Angostura bitters

Egg white

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and blend to emulsify the ingredients. Add ice, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coupette. Garnish with a lemon twist and serve.

RUBICON

“This takes inspiration from the ‘Malecon’, a drink by Erik Lorincz. The Rubicon is a Scotch sour made with completely untraditional ingredients, specifically the lime and port. The bitters give the drink length, and the egg white provides body and texture. The name is a reference to the cross over into using alternative ingredients, and thus creating an alternative whisky sour.”

2 oz DEWAR’S 12 Year Old

3/4 oz lime juice

3/4 oz Dow’s Fine Ruby Port

1/2 oz sugar syrup

3 dashes Angostura bitters

Egg white

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and blend to emulsify the ingredients. Add ice, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coupette. Serve naked.

RAEBURN RICKEY

“The name of this drink chimes with the surging popularity of classic Scotch cocktails named after famous national luminaries, such as the Rob Roy and Bobby Burns. This time our luminary is Henry Raeburn – a Scottish portrait painter that Tommy Dewar favoured. The use of lime and Drambuie create a drink that is refreshing and rich in equal measure.”

1 1/2 oz DEWAR’S White Label

3/4 oz lime juice

3/4 oz Drambuie(R)

1/4 oz simple syrup

Soda

Add the first four ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake hard but briefly, and strain into a Collins glass. Top up with soda, garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wedge and serve.

SAZERAC ANNOUNCES BOND & ROYAL SPIRITS COMPANY

September 11, 2014 (Chicago, IL) – New Orleans- based Sazerac Company announces an exciting addition to their current family of companies- Bond & Royal Spirits Company- focused on developing brands within the specialty and craft spirits space.

From the bar, a company was born.  In 1850, Aaron Bird moved into the Merchants Exchange Coffeehouse and rechristened it the Sazerac Coffeehouse; then began to acquire and market brands of liquor.  He bought the rights to Peychaud’s Bitters in 1873.  In the 1890s his company began to bottle and market the Sazerac cocktail, now made with rye whiskey instead of brandy. In addition, the company operated the Sazerac Bar on Royal Street.  Later, Thomas Handy’s former secretary, C. J. O’Reilly, chartered the Sazerac Company.  Ever since (except for a stint as a delicatessen and grocery vendor during Prohibition), the Sazerac Company has distilled an ever-increasing line of fine spirits.  Today, we are still an independent, American family owned company and proud owners of many of America’s most venerable distilling and spirits companies—Bond & Royal is the newest addition to the family, aiming to further build on the company’s rich history and heritage.

The new company will immediately be dedicated to nurturing and building existing brands identified as players within the growing specialty & craft universe in the US, while building expertise through educational and industry resources across several categories.  Gemini Spirits & Wine, a subsidiary of Sazerac, serves as the home for the majority of these brands today and the new division will operate in conjunction with Gemini.

Ken Kwarta, General Manager of Gemini Spirits & Wine, comments “Since its inception, Gemini has partnered with some of the greatest spirits producers in the world.  As we continue to grow and add new business, we are committed to developing the appropriate resources in the US marketplace to meet the growing demands of our customers and consumers.”

Over the next several months, the full launch of Bond & Royal will include a team of focused sales specialists, new brands and import partners coming on board, as well as marketing, PR, industry relations and educational programs.  The company’s focus will immediately be around the award-winning specialty and craft brands from the Gemini portfolio including Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal, Banks Rum, Siete Leguas Tequila, Campo de Encanto Pisco, Dimmi Liquore di Milano, Glenfarclas Single Malt Scotch and the Casa San Matias Tequilas.  Additional brands will be vetted and added to the portfolio as fitting with the company’s strategy.

Megan Hurtuk, head of marketing for Bond & Royal, notes “Our partners are true masters of their crafts, whose passion and experience- not to mention phenomenal products- inspire us daily.  Our vision for B&R is to further spread the story of these high integrity spirits and develop additional brands, while fueling the energy, knowledge and overall conversation amongst the core of this burgeoning scene.”

SECOND NEW PERMANENT RELEASE FOR THE GLENLIVET NÀDURRA RANGE – Scotch Whisky News

 The Glenlivet Logo

SECOND NEW PERMANENT RELEASE FOR THE GLENLIVET NÀDURRA RANGE

The Glenlivet has unveiled a second new permanent expression in its innovative Nàdurra range, building on its leadership of the dynamic growth of craft spirits. The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection is drawn from casks made from American White Oak that have never before been used to mature Scotch whisky, with these casks – a popular choice of distillers at The Glenlivet since the early 1900s – imparting hints of creamy vanilla to this wonderfully rich single malt.

Bottled at cask strength, The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection will be available around the world and including within the UK, US and Sweden, rolling out from September 2014, priced at $80. The expression will also be available in Global Travel Retail at 48% ABV.

The release follows the initial launch of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso in Travel Retail Europe earlier this year and is supported by a new cask strength edition of this expression. The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso Cask Strength will also enter domestic markets, including India, Canada and Taiwan from the same month, priced at $75.

These new permanent expressions showcase the versatility and multi-layered quality of The Glenlivet, whilst meeting the growing demand for handcrafted single malt whiskies with an interesting twist. The range is crafted in small batches using traditional production methods and capturing the original passion behind George Smith’s distillery. Celebrating the highly skilful traditions of whisky making at The Glenlivet, all expressions in the Nàdurra range are bottled without chill-filtration, offering the additional complexity, body and texture of a whisky that has just been drawn from the cask.

The 19th Century production methods, combined with maturation in first-fill American Oak casks, imparts The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection with an inviting aroma of soft vanilla, fudge and sweet, ripe pears, developing into a tropical mix of pineapple, banana and citrus on the palate and leading to a refreshing finish.

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director for The Glenlivet comments; “Whisky enthusiasts have admired The Glenlivet for its signature smooth and fruity flavour profile for nearly 200 years so, with our Nàdurra range, we want to highlight the skill and craftsmanship behind The Glenlivet. The Glenlivet Nàdurra has long held an extra special place in the hearts of single malt whisky connoisseurs and we are confident that our new Nàdurra innovations will satisfy their increasing appetite for excellence in single malt whisky craftsmanship.”

The new expression comes in refreshed packaging, first introduced in April 2014, which all future expressions of The Glenlivet Nàdurra will be released in to emphasise the handcrafted nature of the range. The design includes a prominent batch number, cask-like stamps and a more visible translation of the Gaelic word, Nàdurra – meaning natural – to illustrate the essence of the brand.

Bonhams Cropped

THE MACALLAN LALIQUE 62 YEAR OLD AND MORTLACH-70 YEAR OLD LEAD BONHAMS EDINBURGH WHISKY SALE

The Macallan 62 years old in a specially designed  Lalique decanter and a decanter of the rare Gordon & MacPhail Generations Mortlach-70 year old lead Bonhams whisky sale in Edinburgh on 1 October.  They are estimated at £20,000-30,000 each.

The Macallan decanter is numbered 200 of a limited edition of 400.  It comes in a fitted wooden presentation case with a crystal stopper and is in its original cardboard  packaging.  This is the product of a long association between Lalique and Macallan  – each luxury branding reinforcing the other.  The whisky, which was distilled in 1950, is said to have the taste of rich dried fruits with layers of sweet ginger, figs and oak.

The Gordon & MacPhail Generations Mortlach-70 year old was distilled in 1938 and bottled in 2008.   It is bottle number 53 of 54 and comes in a hand blown glass decanter with sterling silver stopper and cradle.  In tasting notes the noted whisky commentator Charles MacLean describes it as “a delicate, fresh, vital, fruity whisky, but with unusual attributes of waxiness and smokieness – uncommon today, more usual before the 1960s.”

Bonhams Whisky specialist Martin Green said, “We are fortunate to have two such rare and sought after whiskies to lead the sale and I expect this will generate strong interest from collectors.”

Jim Beam® Unveils Latest Expressions of Ultra-premium Jim Beam® Signature Craft Innovations – American Whiskey News

Jim Beam® Unveils Latest Expressions of Ultra-premium Jim Beam® Signature Craft Innovations

Deerfield, Ill. – September 2014 – Today, Jim Beam®, the world’s No. 1 bourbon, announces the release of two rare, ultra-premium expressions as part of its Jim Beam® Signature Craft line – Jim Beam® Signature Craft Quarter Cask and Jim Beam® Harvest Bourbon Collection™. The Jim Beam Signature Craft line is a series of innovative, limited released, small batch bourbons that showcases some of the finest hand-crafted and rare liquids to come from the Jim Beam distillery.

“With the newest batch expressions in our ultra-premium line of craft products, we are honoring traditions of the past while charting new waters for bourbon distilling,” said Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s 7th Generation Master Distiller. “I’m very proud of these new expressions and am eager to continue experimenting and innovating in search of future batches for the Jim Beam Signature Craft line.”

Jim Beam® Signature Craft Quarter Cask
Jim Beam Signature Craft Quarter Cask is the third edition from the Jim Beam Signature Craft line and second limited-edition expression. This full-bodied Kentucky Straight Bourbon is bottled at 86 proof, starts with premium Jim Beam Bourbon aged at least five years and is finished with a variety of fine quarter cask bourbons, and all aged at least four years in smaller barrels. By building on a base of mature liquid and finishing it with quarter cask aged liquid, the inspired distillers at Jim Beam were able to craft just the right balance of rich vanillas of a mature bourbon profile and the extra oak notes of the quarter cask bourbon.

Perfect for whiskey drinkers who enjoy trying unique expressions, this bourbon is an excellent addition to the Jim Beam Signature Craft family. Jim Beam Signature Craft Quarter Cask joins Jim Beam Signature Craft 12-Year, the permanent expression in the line, which was released in September 2013.

Jim Beam Signature Craft Quarter Cask is now available in select bars and retailers nationwide and has a suggested retail price of $39.99 for 750mL.

Jim Beam® Signature Craft Harvest Bourbon Collection™
In 2003, a group of daring distillers at Jim Beam thought “outside the barrel” and experimented with a variety of obscure grains and non-traditional recipes and ultimately settled on a range of harvest grains such as Brown Rice and Soft Red Wheat (among others) to complement the majority grain of corn. These innovative distillers, many of whom have since currently retired, distilled a handful of liquids and laid them down in rackhouses to rest, untouched, for years…until now. More than a decade later, Fred Noe discovered these lost barrels and gave them a taste; and while a few batches from the lot did not make the cut, he was delighted to find six delicious bourbons, ready to be bottled and released.

Jim Beam Harvest Bourbon Collection is a series of six hand-crafted bourbons that celebrate the distinctive tastes imparted by the distillation of different grains. More than 11 years of aging have brought out the nuances of these unique ingredients to create some of the rarest, most unique whiskey expressions to ever leave a Jim Beam rackhouse.

The first two grain representations – Soft Red Wheat and Brown Rice – are being released in extremely small quantities beginning today. The four remaining expressions – Whole Rolled Oat, Triticale, High Rye and Six Row Barley – will be released with limited quantity throughout 2015.

Jim Beam® Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat Bourbon

•Bottled at 90 proof, Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat is a light-bodied and very approachable bourbon that has been aged for 11 years

•The finest Soft Red Wheat from Kentucky and Indiana gives this bourbon a gentle spice with a slight, light brown sugar sweetness and a light-bodied finish that is best enjoyed straight (neat or on-the-rocks)

•Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat has a slight and soft aroma with mild oak notes, and has a range of color from golden honey to amber

Jim Beam® Signature Craft Brown Rice Bourbon

•Also bottled at 90 proof, Jim Beam Signature Craft Brown Rice is a full-bodied bourbon that has lasting flavor from its 11 years of aging

•This bourbon contains a taste of toasted grain with sweet oak and rich vanilla flavors and is best enjoyed straight (neat or on-the-rocks)

•Jim Beam Signature Craft Brown Rice has an aroma with notes of sweet potato and brown sugar with a slight oaky spice and a deep, rich amber color

Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat and Brown Rice are now available in select bars and retailers nationwide and have a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 375mL

Fred Noe, Master Distiller of the world’s No. 1 bourbon, celebrates a variety of rare production methods with the release of Jim Beam® Signature Craft Quarter Cask and the unique expressions of the Jim Beam® Signature Craft Harvest Bourbon Collection
