The latest expression in the series celebrates the decades-long friendship 

between the two producers with a whisky of elegance and intrigue.

Mossburn Distillers & Blenders Ltd today announces the release of a limited edition bottling of 12 year old Mossburn Speyside blended malt finished in Calvados casks from the renowned Domaine Dupont, a family producer with a history dating back to 1887. This expression builds on the success of the first Cask Collaboration Series that launched in 2023 with Mossburn Foursquare.

Mossburn and Domaine Dupont have worked together in many guises for several decades but this is the first time a collaborative bottle has been produced. The exclusive expression celebrates that longstanding friendship whilst embracing the modern world of whisky with this rare finish in Calvados, the French apple cider brandy.

The spirit started life as a classic expression of Speyside Malt Whisky, first aged for more than 12 years in ex- bourbon casks before re-aging in French oak barrels that previously held Calvados and Pommeau. It is released at batch strength, 57.2% abv.

Domaine Dupont is in Normandy, France, and is famous for making Calvados, a type of apple brandy, for which it is world-famous and highly decorated. The distillery can be traced back as far as 1887 as a farm and cider house before a focus on Calvados began in the 1980s. Etienne Dupont learned his craft in the cognac region before combining his new ideas with old expertise and even older orchards to produce a range of brandies that are truly refined and highly regarded across the world. 

Whiskymaker, Neil Macleod Mathieson, comments: “When looking at collaborative efforts, one likes to turn to one’s oldest friends. Daving worked with the Dupont family for 30 years and admired the deft touch with which they introduce oak to their Calvados, I was sure this would allow us to use their locally coopered casks to great effect on a Speyside malt finish, emphasising its typical heathery and floral notes. Even before casking, we were imagining Autumn days and spiced baked apples – what a treat.”

This release is the second in the annual Cask Collaboration Series for Mossburn Distillers & Blenders, that will see Mossburn blend and finish a different Scotch each year in a special cask finish using barrels sourced from a distinctive world-renowned distillery across different spirit categories.

Tasting note:                               

Nose: The nose carries an immediate honied florality with baked red apples coming through. A touch of vanilla cream, pink peppercorn and some oaky spice sitting in the background.

Palate: Light, well rounded and initially delicate on the palate, more weight, length, and a touch of fire kicking in later. The casks have added a subtle undertone of apple sweetness which marries well with the heathery cereal notes of the whisky and matches the light ginger and spice coming from the oak.

Finish: Finishes with complexity and some apple crumble notes of toasted hazelnuts, sultanas and toffee brittle.

Celebrating 25 years of Weller at Buffalo Trace Distillery, William Larue Weller is the clear standout of this year’s exceptional lineup

FRANKFORT, Franklin County, Ky (OCT. 28, 2024) – The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection has returned for the fall 2024 season, representing some of the finest whiskeys produced by America’s Oldest Continuously Operating Distillery. This year’s portfolio includes all five Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) staples: Eagle Rare17-Year-Old Bourbon, George T. Stagg Bourbon, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey, Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, and William Larue Weller Bourbon.

“William Larue Weller Bourbon shines among the Collection this year with its caramel notes and long, creamy finish. It’s fitting that this year also marks the 25th anniversary of Sazerac Company’s acquisition of the Weller brand,” stated Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. “For more than two decades, we’ve worked hard to craft the signature flavors that whiskey enthusiasts love, both within the Weller brand and the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Each expression in the Antique Collection is housed in a clear glass bottle, displaying its rich color. The back label on each bottle offers a detailed history and description of the whiskey. The limited-edition Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottles are sold individually and available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $149.99 (local taxes and fees will vary).

William Larue Weller Bourbon

The 2024 William Larue Weller barrels aged over twelve years on the lower floor of a rick warehouse at Buffalo Trace Distillery at a barrel entry proof of 114. The Antique Collection’s uncut, unfiltered wheated recipe bourbon is hand-bottled at 125.8 proof and honors W.L. Weller, who pioneered the wheated bourbon recipe, substituting wheat for the traditional rye grain. On the nose of the 2024 William Larue Weller, a blend of new leather, light pipe tobacco, and caramel, enveloped by the warm sweetness of marshmallow and hints of ripe fruit. Rich caramel and toffee notes coat the palate with a long finish and oak, caramel, and fruit notes. The 2024 Global Whisky Challenge awarded last year’s William Larue Weller Bourbon “Best of Class” North America during the 2024 Global Whisky Challenge.

Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon

Bottled at its initial strength of 101 proof in tribute to the original Eagle Rare brand launched in 1975, this year’s Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon was distilled in the spring of 2007. On the nose, Eagle Rare 17 delivers complex notes of oak and caramel intertwined with subtle undertones of vanilla and pepper spice with a caramel sweetness evened by the spiciness of rye, toasted oak, and tobacco on the palate. A combination of caramel, pepper, leather, and oak, paired with roasted tobacco and dried fruit finishes this 17-year and 4-month-old whiskey. Last year’s Eagle Rare-17-Year-Old Bourbon marked the oldest release of the spirit since its inclusion in the Antique Collection. Several well-respected spirits competitions recognized the expression, including the 2024 Whiskies of the World Competition, where the 19-year-old whiskey won a Double Gold, Best in Class medal.

George T. Stagg Bourbon

Buffalo Trace Distillery first released George T. Stagg bourbon in 2002 in response to a consumer request for a well-aged, barrel-strength whiskey. The Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is known for its bold character reminiscent of its namesake, the original purchaser of O.F.C. Distillery, now famously recognized as Buffalo Trace Distillery. This year’s George T. Stagg sits at 136.1 proof and is comprised of barrels aged more than 15 years and two months. The whiskey presents a powerful aroma of deep aged wood, rich oak, and dark cherry. A layered profile of spice, oak, caramel, and a soft touch of cinnamon hit the palate. Its long and drying finish leaves a lasting impression of complexity and warmth. The 2024 International Whisky Competition awarded last year’s George T. Stagg First Place for the Best Bourbon, American, and Kentucky Whiskey.

Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye Whiskey

Bottled at 18 years and five months and named after the official cocktail of New Orleans, the 2024 Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey has scents of oak and leather with subtle hints of ripe plum, rye grain, and earthy undertones. Rye spice, smoke, dark cherry, and a touch of licorice jump on the palate. The finish on this year’s Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye lingers gracefully, imparting subtle hints of tobacco and charred oak. The 2023 Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye was honored with the Gold “Outstanding” Medal in the 2024 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey

The team at Buffalo Trace Distillery filled the barrels for this year’s Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey at 125 proof over six years ago. This uncut, unfiltered whisky is now 127.2 proof, bumping up in alcohol percentage from last year’s nearly 125 offering. Inspired by the bartender who first used rye whiskey in the original Sazerac cocktail, Thomas H. Handy is bottled directly from the barrel, honoring its traditional method from over a century ago. The 2024 Thomas H. Handy is bold and invigorating with scents of freshly cracked black pepper and cinnamon. Spice and oak flavors are prominent, with a long-lasting finish of cinnamon, pepper, and clove. The 2023 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey was awarded a Double Gold Medal at the 2024 Singapore World Spirits Competition.

Release French Oak Harvest Rye 

Nashville, IN – Hard Truth Distilling Co. has released French Oak Harvest Rye, the third in a four-part collectible series of sweet mash whiskeys in collaboration with Mellencamp Whiskey Company.

Each of the four collectible whiskeys from Hard Truth and Mellencamp Whiskey features a unique expression created by Hard Truth Master Distiller Bryan Smith along with Hud Mellencamp and Levi Collison, the co-founders of Mellencamp Whiskey Company. The final bottle in the series will be released in Spring of 2025.

“We were very pleased that the first two Mellencamp Whiskeys were very well received by the whiskey community and our fans,” said Smith. “Both Harvest Rye and Sweet Mash Special Reserve are sold out at the distillery, and we’re confident that French Oak Harvest Rye will be equally successful.”

Created to celebrate Indiana’s small, independent, and heritage farmers, French Oak Harvest Rye uses 100% Indiana grains, and a portion of sales goes to support sustainable farming initiatives and farming families.

“We have absolutely loved working with Hud and Levi on each of the three Mellencamp whiskeys. Both contribute significantly to each expression,” said Smith. “We came together because of our love for the state of Indiana, its natural resources, and the whiskeys it helps produce. The partnership couldn’t be better.”

Hud Mellencamp added, “Our collaboration with Hard Truth aligns perfectly with our values of supporting local farmers and sourcing high-quality local ingredients. I believe we’ve made some great whiskeys.”

“The experience working with the Hard Truth team has been extraordinary,” said Collison. “They have been incredibly generous with their time and have allowed Hud and I to be involved throughout the process for each release in the series.”

Each bottle’s label in the series features original artwork by Hud Mellencamp’s father, John Mellencamp. French Oak Harvest Rye showcases a self-portrait called “American Fool” — an oil and canvas artwork painted in 2020 by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter.

French Oak Harvest Rye is currently available at Hard Truth’s distillery campus and will be arriving in stores throughout Hard Truth’s distribution network over the next several weeks. It is 104 proof (52% ABV) and has a suggested retail price of $69.99. Production was limited to 36 barrels.

The unique mash bill of 72 percent rye and 28 percent corn was first featured in the original Harvest Rye. This expression, however, has been rested in new, charred French Oak barrels, which imbued additional flavor complexity to that first release. The French Oak shifts the flavor dynamic, leaning into and highlighting fruit-forward notes within the whiskey.

Berry Bros. & Rudd, the oldest wine and spirits merchant in Britain, has announced its second spirits collection exploring “A Sense of Place”.

‘Coasts & Shores,’ comprises 25 exceptional bottlings, showcasing a curated selection of whiskies from renowned coastal distilleries worldwide. The latest collection builds on the ‘Glens & Valleys’ selection which was released earlier this year, drawing inspiration from some of Scotland’s most scenic rolling landscapes.

Coasts & Shores celebrates the distinctive flavour characteristics imparted on whisky by vibrant coastal climates. The collection includes a variety of bottlings from the island of Islay, famed for its iconic smoky and peaty profiles. A bottling from Smögen Distillery also marks a return to one of Berry Bros & Rudd’s favourite Swedish distilleries, offering a unique Scandinavian coastal smoke intertwined with hints of brine and a touch of minerality.

The collection is rounded out with a new offering from Sakurao Distillery, a Japanese distillery, which Berry Bros. & Rudd is bottling for the first time. Sakurao is nestled in the coastal town of Hatsukaichi, Japan, near the World Heritage listed island of Miyajima. The single cask bottling was both distilled and matured at the distillery on the shores of Hiroshima Bay.

Caol Ila Distillery

Caol Ila Distillery is sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean, sitting near Port Askaig on the eastern coast of Islay. Pronounced “Cull Eela”, it takes its name from the Gaelic, translating to “Sound of Islay”. Its whisky is respected for its distinctive, smoky Islay style and elegant, fruity balance.

Caol Ila, 2010 Moscatel Finish Cask #311739:

On the nose, ripe peaches intertwine with the aroma of bonfire night toffee apples, underpinned by a damp coastal peat. As the nose develops, hints of sticky-sweet dates emerge. The palate has a wonderfully creamy texture, layered with digestive biscuits and a distinct bonfire smoke. The finish is long and embracing, with more earthy peat and subtle sweet fruit.

Caol Ila, 2010 Pedro Ximénez Finish Cask #311745:

On the nose, an enticing blend of briny sea air and dark, syrupy raisins sets the stage. The initial sip unveils layers of smoky peat, dark chocolate and figs, accompanied by a maritime salinity. Mid-palate, the sweetness of caramelised brown sugar merges with hints of blackcurrant and subtle oak spices. The finish delivers lingering notes of salted caramel, leaving a lasting impression of sweet and smoky complexity.

Caol Ila, 2010 Moscatel Finish Cask #311743:

On the nose, briny sea air mingles with golden sultanas and honeyed apricots, underpinned by a gentle waft of peat smoke. An oily, thick texture envelops the palate, where rich, dried fruits – sultanas and figs – are balanced by earthy, smoky undertones. Hints of toasted almonds and dark chocolate add complexity, complemented by a subtle citrus zest. The smoky peat gradually gives way to a lingering sweetness of muscovado sugar and dried figs, leaving a whisper of coastal brine in its wake.

Dalmore

Overlooking the famed Black Isle, Dalmore sits on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, guarded from the North Sea by two precipitous headlands called The Sutors. Dalmore’s whisky is renowned for its densely fruity and cereal characteristics and a past steeped in legacy.

Dalmore, 2012 Barolo Finish Cask #3577

The nose opens with the rich aroma of vanilla custard and fresh red fruits, alongside an intriguing industrial note. The palate has an oily, unctuous texture that clings to the tongue, with a peppery bite balancing the sherry sweetness and Barolo tannins. The combination is as delightful as it is surprising, like eating a custard tart with a side of raspberries whilst gazing at the colossal steel giants of the Cromarty Firth.

Dalmore, 2010 Cask #4022:

The nose opens with a delightful aroma of freshly baked Garibaldi biscuits, rich hazelnut and a hint of crème brûlée. On the palate, a sumptuous wave of milk chocolate emerges, harmonised by the sweetness of caramelised nuts. The mouthfeel is well-rounded, viscous, and indulgent, leading to a prolonged finish with cosy notes of caramelised nuts and sherry-infused oak.

Inchgower Distillery

Inchgower Distillery was built in 1871 near the fishing village of Buckie on the coast of the Moray Firth. Its whisky has a characteristically coastal style with salinity and spice, redolent of its geographical location. Only one percent of its whisky production is bottled as a single malt.

Inchgower, 2009 Pedro Ximénez Finish Cask #301026

On the nose, rich aromas of dark chocolate and figs mingle with a touch of brine, a hallmark of Inchgower’s coastal spirit. The palate reveals the Pedro Ximénez cask’s influence, as treacle toffee and ripe plums combine with raisin and sweet dates. Subtle hints of roasted nuts and a whisper of sea spray create a delightful balance, leading to a finish that delivers lingering notes of dried fruit and gentle spice.

Inchgower, 2009 Pedro Ximénez Finish Cask #301032

Upon nosing, this whisky greets you with stewed plums, creamy tiramisu and a hint of fresh rhubarb. The palate unfolds with a luxurious wave of sultanas and figs, interwoven with a spicy undercurrent of sweet cinnamon. The finish is long and warming, where notes of toffee and oak linger above a sherried backbone.

Ledaig

Ledaig, pronounced “letch-ick” and meaning “safe haven”, is the peated single malt produced by Tobermory Distillery. The distillery shares its name with the iconic, colourful harbour town on the east coast of the Isle of Mull. Known for both its unpeated and peated distillates, Tobermory is a true safe haven for whisky lovers.

Ledaig 2009, Oloroso Finish Cask #700324 

On the nose, damp turf and bonfire embers set the scene. The palate reveals wood spice and smoked bacon, complemented by saline peat. The Oloroso cask adds a comforting layer of muscovado sugar and dried fruits, akin to the warmth of a pair of cosy socks in a fierce winter storm. The finish brings together these smoky and sweet notes, before gently fading into the distance.

Macduff Distillery

Built in the 1960s, Macduff distillery is located in its namesake fishing port, nestled on the banks of the Deveron Estuary, just a short distance from where it meets the North Sea. This seaside distillery produces a coastal malt that is naturally nutty, weighty, and fruity in character.

This whisky opens with crisp green apples and juicy, ripe pears, intertwined with gentle waves of vanilla, the subtle sweetness of desiccated coconut, and a hint of creamy milk chocolate. On the palate, layers of vanilla-laden sponge cake unfold, mingling with a spoonful of chewy lemon curd. The finish leaves lingering notes of orchard fruits and a soft, creamy touch of coconut.

Orkney Distillery

Orkney, an archipelago off the coast of the Scottish Highlands, boasts some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery and diverse wildlife, ancient Neolithic sites and exceptional whisky. This single malt is renowned for its invigorating notes of sea air. While the distillery remains unnamed, we believe that a touch of mystery only enhances its allure, especially when the whisky is as exceptional as this.

Orkney, 2006 Cask #2 

This whisky from Scotland’s most northerly distillery opens with rich savoury notes, reminiscent of Bresaola with a black peppercorn crust. The palate unfolds to reveal the gentle coastal peat this distillery is renowned for, intertwined with delicate layers of soft, spicy oak. The finish delivers a faint whisper of rubber and a slight salinity, conjuring images of a fisherman bracing himself against the salty sea air in his waders.

Sakurao Distillery is nestled in the coastal town of Hatsukaichi, Japan, near the World Heritage listed island of Miyajima. The distillery combines traditional Japanese distillation techniques with modern practices to create delicious, innovative spirits. Although it utilises three maturation sites, this specific cask was both distilled and matured at the distillery on the shores of Hiroshima Bay.

Smögen Distillery

Smögen Distillery is the vision of one man – Pär Caldenby. It sits in Hunnebostrand, on the Skagerrak coast in western Sweden near the picturesque village of Smögen. Bold and complex, this heavily peated whisky shows a beautiful marriage of maritime and malty characteristics.

Coastal smoke drifts through, intertwined with hints of brine and a touch of minerality. On the palate, succulent orange marmalade appears, atop the smoky aroma of chargrilled meats and coastal peat.

Staoisha 

Bunnahabhain, where Staiosha is distilled, translates to “mouth of the river”, referring to the Margadale which flows into the Sound of Islay nearby. Although known for a more lightly peated Islay, this expression is made from barley exposed to a higher level of peat smoke and named after Loch Staoisha.

On the nose, there is an immediate rush of iodine and sea spray, bringing to mind a maritime landscape shrouded in mist. Heavy, earthy peat dominates, complemented by a refreshing hint of mint, delicate notes of light green fruits and a whisper of chalk. The palate is robust and intense, with a striking presence of coal and deep, dark smoke. Salt weaves through the profile, while subtle hints of liquorice and almond round out this richly peated dram.

Very occasionally Berry Bros & Rudd come across a cask of whisky that for various reasons we are unable to disclose the origins of, and whilst we would usually try to avoid this scenario, some casks are just too good to pass by. She will now lead the senior management team in driving an ambitious programme of growth for the five-year-old business, building on the success to date of its award-winning service and owned spirits portfolio.

Barbara has over 30 years’ experience in supply chain and operations management within the global drinks business. Joining Young Spirits in 2023 as Director of Operations, she has provided leadership and strategic direction across the business, overseeing operational management at the site and ensuring long term organisational growth through her commitment to brand and service development.

She will now focus on scaling the Young Spirits service, building its highly skilled team, and strengthening the commitment to operational and customer service excellence, sustainability and sector-leading innovation for which Young Spirits is known.

The 2024 release is the second chapter in the series that celebrates The Dalmore’s whisky making artistry and the role played by exquisite casks sourced from the world’s finest winemakers, in the creation of the iconic Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Casks are intrinsic to the craft of Scotch Whisky, as the vessel within which the spirit is matured. In time the cask will influence the whisky, due not only to the type of wood it is made from, but the fine wines it has held previously. The life a cask has led is fundamental to the potential it represents to the whisky maker, which is why The Dalmore whisky makers curate exquisite casks sourced from the world’s finest wineries and bodegas.

The Port Edition was born from the exclusive partnership between The Dalmore and Symington Family Estates, who grant The Dalmore’s whisky makers exclusive access to the rarest of Graham’s Port casks.

Each set in the collection comprises three rare, aged whiskies, which together showcase the flavour potential in Graham’s Port wine casks, each one nurtured for decades under the watchful eye of winemakers, today led by Head Winemaker Charles Symington (4th Generation). It is in the hands of The Dalmore’s whisky makers that these carefully curated, very rare Port casks enhance the rich character of the exceptional Single Malt Scotch Whisky for which The Dalmore is renowned.

The Port Edition is beautifully presented in a bespoke leather-finished travel case handcrafted in Florence, Italy – perfectly framing the trio of new expressions. Each age-statement whisky is housed in the iconic Dalmore bottle adorned with a matching collar. A century of whisky making artistry is captured in this exceptional collection. The story begins in the valley high above the Douro River, where since the 1700s, Portuguese winemakers have painstakingly carved into the schist soil to create terraced vineyards in the mountainside, distinctive to the Douro. Each year at Graham’s principal estate, Quinta dos Malvedos, the grapes – exclusively picked by hand – are taken to the onsite boutique winery where they are transformed into the exquisite wines the port house is renowned for.

90 miles downriver in Vila Nova de Gaia is Graham’s 1890 Lodge, overlooking the historic coastal city of Porto, the gateway to the Atlantic. After each harvest, Graham’s wines are taken to the lodge where they are assessed by Master Blender, Charles Symington. Only the very finest wines are selected for long-term ageing and these wines often remain at the lodge for decades.

New Baker’s High-Rye Bourbon, a new expression that pays homage to Baker’s trucking business, where he delivered grains to the James B. Beam Distilling Co. During this time, he developed an appreciation for different grains and their influence on whiskey.

This high-rye recipe has 2x the standard amount of rye in Baker’s Bourbon and is a continuation of our innovation journey, celebrating Baker Beam and all that he did for our distillery

It offers a unique tasting journey with each pour, predominate tasting notes include the taste of charred oak, brown sweets, and a subtle rye spice. On the nose, it’s charred oak with notes of vanilla, caramel, and dried fruits. It’s full-bodied with a hint of baking spice.

This liquid is distilled to a 107 proof and barreled and aged for a minimum of 7 years, allowing the bourbon to pull more caramel, dried fruit, and vanilla flavor from the barrel wood.

Inspired by the brand’s name and origin story, ANGEL’S ENVY’s “Worth The Envy” campaign redefines envy as a virtue. It positions envy as a positive; a catalyst to create enviable moments in their lives as a source of influence to reimagine what people expect from bourbon and to challenge the category standard.

“Worth The Envy” premieres with a 30-second spot that takes viewers on a thrilling “pursuit of envy” through a diverse cast of characters and unexpected locations. A bottle of ANGEL’S ENVY Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels is the hero, guiding the crowd around a vibrant hotel hallway, through an intimate loft space, and a chic pool party. The spot culminates at a sunset beach soiree, where the bottle and a cocktail are sitting heroically on the table before being picked up, leaving the audience guessing where ANGEL’S ENVY will take them next.

“When we think of bourbon, it’s typically driven by moody and isolating environments, limited cocktail offerings, and enjoyed primarily by aficionados,” said Bruno Luglio, Executive Creative Director at Sid Lee, the brand’s creative agency of record. “By embracing ANGEL’S ENVY’s rule-bending ethos, we were inspired to create a campaign that’s as exciting, inclusive, and progressive as ANGEL’S ENVY itself — and captured an opportunity to flip perceptions of envy – and bourbon – and reimagine it as a motivation to raise the bar.”

The new campaign will air the 30-second spot and cut down 15-second spots on NBC Sports and The Golf Channel, and on premium streaming services Hulu and Peacock.

Spark Plug Cocktail Recipe
Mix up a delicious twist on the classic Espresso Martini Cocktail with ANGEL’S ENVY, as seen in the spot:

  • 1 ½ parts ANGEL’S ENVY Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
  • 1 part Vanilla Liqueur
  • 2 parts Espresso

Add all ingredients into a shaker tin. Shake vigorously and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with three coffee beans or grated cinnamon.

International Beverage unveils Old Pulteney single malt whisky’s new partnership with Nuno Mendes

 Renowned chef’s culinary creations celebrate the unique flavour of ‘Old Pulteney Port’

Scotch whisky brand Old Pulteney has teamed up with celebrated Michelin Star chef Nuno Mendes, to create a series of exquisite recipes that showcase the latest release in Old Pulteney’s limited-edition Coastal Series, Old Pulteney Port.

Combining the rich maritime history of the brand’s home in Wick, with his own Portuguese heritage, Nuno Mendes has drawn inspiration from both locations to create a series of dishes that celebrate the whisky’s distinctive flavours.

“I’ve crafted these recipes to highlight the beautiful connection between Portuguese and Scottish cuisines, using Old Pulteney Port to enhance the natural flavours of the sea,” Mendes says. “The flavours I’ve explored are a celebration of our shared coastal heritage, and come to life through delicious, memorable dishes.”

Old Pulteney Port: Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich sultana sweetness with vanilla and buttery notes, candied orange peel and hints of

gingerbread. Undertones of cherries, marzipan and dark chocolate add depth and balance.

Palate: Sweet and spicy with notes of baked apples, caramelised sugar and cinnamon swirl pastries. Opens up further with vanilla custard, a touch of rose water and The Maritime Malt’s signature minerality.

Finish: The taste continues into delicate and fruity notes, warming spices and plum jam sweetness.

Colour: Rose gold with a peach highlight.

Old Pulteney

Old Pulteney is the only brand whose story, distillery, and whisky are shaped by the sea itself. Nuno Mendes

Born in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, Nuno Mendes’ passion for travel and food began early, inspired by his father and grandmother. His culinary journey took him to the California Culinary Academy and later Japan, where he further sharpened his craft.

In 2006, Nuno made waves in London’s food scene with Bacchus in Hoxton, quickly gaining a reputation for his innovative approach. Following this were projects such as The Loft Project and Taberna do Mercado, which solidified his status as a boundary-pusher, while his Michelin-starred restaurants, Viajante and Mãos, received widespread acclaim.

In 2014, Nuno took the helm at Chiltern Firehouse as executive chef, leading it to success and publishing Chiltern Firehouse: The Cookbook (2016). His second cookbook, Lisboeta (2017), set the stage for his latest venture: Lisboeta on Charlotte Street, Soho – a celebration of Portuguese cuisine launched in 2022 in partnership with MJMK.
