The Glenallachie “World’s Best Single Malt Crowned” – Scotch Whisky News

THE GLENALLACHIE CROWNED WORLD’S BEST

SINGLE MALT TWICE IN QUICK SUCCESSION

Prestigious World Whiskies Awards handed out its top

accolade to the brand’s 12-year-old single malt

Leading independent Scotch whisky brand The GlenAllachie has been named the World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards for the second time, with its 12-year-old expression claiming the title.

Owned by industry veteran and qualified chemist Billy Walker, whose career in whisky spans 53 years, the Speyside-based distillery previously won the same title in 2021 with its 10-year-old Cask Strength Batch 4 single malt.

The GlenAllachie is the only Scottish whisky brand to win the hotly contested commendation since 2017, with recent winners coming from England, Israel and Japan.

The distillery, built in 1967, produced whisky destined for premium blends until Walker acquired it in 2017.

Since its core range of single malts was launched in 2018, the brand has experienced exponential growth thanks to Walker’s unparalleled reputation and is now distributed to over 50 countries globally.

The GlenAllachie has become renowned for its “heather honey house style” and Sherry-forward maturation regime.

The award-winning 12-year-old (UK RRSP £58) was matured on-site in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry, red wine and virgin oak casks.

According to the judges, the result is a flavour profile of “dried apple, gourmet chutney, orange zest, nutmeg and cinnamon.”

Commenting on the exceptional achievement, Walker shares:

“The whole GlenAllachie team are absolutely thrilled at this extraordinary endorsement of the 12-year-old: our flagship expression. When we took the reins at the distillery almost 8 years ago, it was beyond our wildest dreams that a previously low-profile whisky would be crowned the world’s best single malt twice – especially within such a short timeframe.

“At The GlenAllachie, we’re all about offering quality whiskies at approachable prices, and so the fact it’s our signature bottling within our core range that has scooped this top accolade highlights this. This wonderful news will only further motivate our expert team to continue our pursuit of absolute perfection, not absolute consistency. Our whisky is in the best possible hands.”

The GlenAllachie 12-year-old is available worldwide via specialist retailers (more information) and online here.

ABOUT GLENALLACHIE:

At The GlenAllachie, each decision in creating our award-winning Speyside single malt merges logic with instinct. In the experienced hands of legendary whisky maker Billy Walker, a culture of precision, patience and perseverance has been instilled in his small yet accomplished team of whisky experts.

Being independent offers us the freedom to prioritise what matters most: quality. The pursuit is not of consistency, but perfection. Never resting on our laurels, we work tirelessly to refine and enhance each batch of whisky, striving to better the last.

The result of seamlessly coordinated collaboration is a range of carefully crafted and cask-perfected whiskies, each personally approved by Billy. With a quietly confident team of passionate whisky enthusiasts behind The GlenAllachie, you can be sure we have our whisky in good hands.

Buffalo Trace Distillery April 2025 Flood Update – Tuesday, April 15

Buffalo Trace Distillery April 2025 Flood Update – Tuesday, April 15

FRANKFORT, KY (April 15, 2025) – Nearly one week after flood waters reached their peak at Buffalo Trace Distillery, signs of normalcy have returned to the Distillery. Supported by cleanup and restoration efforts by hundreds of professionals, removal of flood water debris and damage is more than 75% complete. Power has been restored to key areas of the Distillery, which has allowed craft bottling inside Blanton’s Bottling Hall and the main bottling hall operations to resume. The interiors of buildings have been emptied of water and restoration efforts have begun.

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our contractors and dedicated teams, we’ve made tremendous progress in the Distillery’s flood recovery plan. While there’s still work to be done, the resilience and determination demonstrated this past week is truly inspiring,” said Jake Wenz, Sazerac & Buffalo Trace Distillery CEO and President. “Each day significant progress is made allowing the Distillery to return to normal operations and I am optimistic that, with this same spirit, we’ll be operating normally soon.  We want to thank all of the contractors, our leaders, and our team members for their hard work”

Starting Monday, April 14, Buffalo Trace Distillery reopened to visitors with a limited retail experience. This modified visitor offering includes a small pop-up shopping experience inside the Freehouse building with opportunities to purchase select bottles and complimentary tastings in an outdoor canopy neighboring the building. This modified experience is available to those with previously held tour reservations. Those who are eligible to attend this modified experience will receive an email with instructions on how to book. If capacity allows, additional online reservations will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. At this time, there will be no tours or walk-ups offered.  We know our fans are eager to visit so we’re making every effort to return to normal tour and gift shop operations. Because we have limited capacity, unlike normal operations, reservations are required to attend the modified experience.

In the coming weeks Buffalo Trace looks forward to sharing details on forthcoming relief initiatives to further support the community. Should you want to support relief efforts in the immediate, the Franklin County Flood Relief Fund has been set up by the city to collect donations and offer aid to those who need it most. We have some amazing casks waiting to be discovered, so this is an unmissable experience for fans and those new to Tamnavulin to sample some fantastic whiskies.”

About Tamnavulin:

Tamnavulin, named after the Gaelic term for ‘Mill on the Hill,’ draws its identity from the 16th-century woollen mill that once graced its historic site. It stands as the embodiment of the quintessential Speyside malt. Established in 1966 in the tranquil village of Tamnavulin, Scotland, the distillery’s journey has been one of both tradition and revival. Though the distillery closed its doors in 1995, it was brought back to life and meticulously restored in 2007. Since then, Tamnavulin has been dedicated to crafting exceptional single malt whisky that captures the true essence of Speyside—sweet, smooth, and fruity.

Nestled in the heart of Speyside, a region renowned for housing over half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries, Tamnavulin benefits from an environment perfectly suited for whisky production. Speyside’s unique microclimate, with its temperate conditions, provides the ideal setting for whisky maturation, while the region’s plentiful water sources contribute to the whisky’s purity and character. Inspired by this extraordinary location, Tamnavulin expertly marries time-honoured distilling traditions with cutting-edge techniques to craft its signature double cask matured Speyside malt—offering a single malt experience with twice the flavour and depth.

Introducing the Singleton Gourmand Collection: A trio of stunning 42-year-old single malts inspired by the art of Pâtisserie – Scotch Whisky News

Introducing the Singleton Gourmand Collection: A trio of stunning 42-year-old single malts inspired by the art of Pâtisserie

This April The Singleton will reveal a signature single malt & patisserie pairing in collaboration with celebrated Master Pâtissier Nicolas Rouzaud.

London, 7th April 2025 – The Singleton unveils its exceptional new release, The Singleton Gourmand: a collection of three 42-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whiskies, each designed to emulate the flavours of sumptuous desserts. To celebrate the launch of the Gourmand Collection, The Singleton has partnered with Master Pâtissier Nicolas Rouzaud who has designed three bespoke cakes inspired by each of the whiskies, which, when enjoyed together, create a single moment of pure indulgence.

The Gourmand Collection whiskies have been meticulously matured for 42 years, including the longest secondary maturation in the history of The Singleton, and are designed to capture the essence of a lavish dessert. Notes of Fig & Chocolate Ganache oozes characters of melted chocolate, cloves, spices and rich vanilla woodiness; Notes of Caramelised Crème Brûlée balances rich and sweet notes of baked vanilla custard torched to perfection; and Notes of Black Cherry Gâteau embodies the classic dessert with flavours of ripened, juicy black cherries, chocolate and black pepper.

Master of Malts Dr. Craig Wilson led the creation of these whiskies through a 29-year maturation process, using an innovative cask layering technique that reveals unparalleled depth of flavour. Dr. Wilson shared, In pursuit of exceptional indulgence, this collection pushes the boundaries of whisky maturation, much like Nicolas’ approach to creating layered, flavourful pâtisserie. Together, they create an harmonious tasting adventure that showcases the artistry behind both crafts.”

In celebration of fine craftsmanship, The Singleton has partnered with Master Pâtissier Nicolas Rouzaud, known for Nicolas Rouzaud at The Connaught, London. Rouzaud was inspired by The Gourmand Collection to create three bespoke cakes that harmonise with the whiskies, elevating the experience of each dram. His creations reflect the intricate flavours of the Gourmand Collection, making each pairing a symphony of flavours, textures and aromas.

The bespoke cakes feature multiple layers and textures, combining elements including mousse, sponge, puff pastry, and caramel cream, all beautifully crafted to mirror the characteristics of the whiskies. Each cake’s form is an homage to The Singleton Gourmand Collection’s iconic bottle design.

Of this new collaboration, Nicolas Rouzaud said: “The art of a Chef Pâtissier is rooted in creativity, passion, and the pursuit of unbounded flavour—qualities that are also central to the whisky-maker’s craft. The Singleton’s process, flavours and commitment to slow craft and precision inspired the creation of these cakes and I’m honoured to present these alongside The Singleton Gourmand whiskies to craft a truly singular moment of indulgence.”

The pairing will be unveiled and available to experience from April 28th to May 5th, 2025, at No. 41 Burlington Arcade, in the boutique and tasting rooms of renowned wine and spirits merchant Justerini & Brooks. This exclusive event will allow guests to enjoy the perfect pairing of The Singleton Gourmand whiskies with Rouzaud’s exquisite cakes in one of London’s most historic venues. This exceptional experience, crafted for the most discerning palates, is available by reservation only for groups of two or four at justerinis.com.

For epicurean explorers visiting Scotland, The Home of The Singleton at Glen Ord Distillery will offer a unique tasting of its signature whiskies alongside a custom-designed cake by Nicolas Rouzaud. Available from May 2025 this bespoke creation is made up of a single cake designed to pair with three expressions of The Singleton; 12-Year-Old, 18-Year-Old, and 21-Year-Old. Consisting of three layers, transitioning from airy mousse to a dense base, each inspired by the different whiskies, it offers an indulgent paired tasting experience set against the backdrop of The Singleton’s Highland home.

The Singleton Gourmand Collection offers an unparalleled whisky and patisserie pairing experience, blending patience, craftsmanship, and indulgence. Limited to only 136 sets globally and priced at £8,800 (including duties and tax) for three 50cl bottles, The Singleton Gourmand is a tribute to time, craftsmanship, and flavour innovation. Notes of Fig & Chocolate Ganache Single Malt Scotch Whisky

  • Product information
    • ABV: 46.8%
    • Release volume: 136 bottles, 50cl
  • Tasting Notes
    • Appearance: Very deep umber; burnished mahogany with crimson lights. Moderate beading
    • Nose: Rich, mellow and lightly drying. Sweet promise offers a hint of dark chocolate topped with crystallised violets, adding a scented note. Beneath this lies a subtle dried fruit complex with hints of dried fig and crystallised angelica. In time, the aroma becomes richer and deeper, with suggestions of toasted nuts, espresso coffee, then cappuccino coffee dusted with chocolate and fruity raisin-laced chocolate.
    • Body: Medium
    • Palate: The creamy-smooth texture introduces a taste that starts sweetly winey, grows lightly tart and finally becomes spicy and peppery, drying elegantly. The sweetness is deep and soon more sharply fruity, with hints of fig pudding, juicy berries and melting chocolate ganache. Rich notes of ripe fig reinforce the impression as it becomes lightly peppery, the spiciness embracing a smoothly rounded, sweet-sharp nature that becomes sweeter and less tart if a drop of water is added.
    • Finish: Quite long, spicy and warming in style, with a pinch of pepper and a distinct dark chocolate aftertaste.
  • Overview of ‘Notes of Fig & Chocolate Ganache’ Cake made by Nicolas Rouzaud
    • Rich chocolate meets the earthy lightness of fig, where silky mousse, airy sponge, and a crisp base create a dynamic palate experience that complements the whisky’s rich notes. The interplay of textures ensures a well-rounded flavour profile that highlights the whisky’s depth while maintaining the subtle presence of fig.

Notes of Caramelised Crème Brûlée Single Malt Scotch Whisky

  • Product information:
    • ABV: 45.3%
    • Release volume: 136 bottles, 50cl
  • Tasting Notes
    • Appearance: Burnt caramel; deep, dark umber; blackened old oak with magenta lights.
    • Nose: A very mellow nose-feel with sweet promise. There is an immediate impression of light, summery coconut backed by clotted cream, the creamy coconut soon fading to be overlaid by rich hints of prune juice, dark molasses and toffee sweetness as it lingers in the background. Gradually, the aroma edges towards cappuccino coffee with a pinch of powdered milk chocolate. The chocolate note increases as the whisky develops in the glass and is enhanced by a drop of water.
    • Body: Medium
    • Palate: The texture is creamy-smooth and the taste begins lightly sweet; the sweetness is soon edged with bitterness, suggesting the brittle, burnt toffee surface of a crème brûlée. More hints reinforce these first impressions, as it becomes attractively savoury, then sharpens before drying gently. With creamy smoothness to match the brûlée, it is straightforward and smooth to drink with a rounded, sweet- spicy nature, which is enhanced if water is added.
    • Finish: Medium to long, drying gently in a lightly peppery conclusion to leave a hint of dark chocolate in the aftertaste.
  • Overview of ‘Notes of Caramelised Crème Brûlée’ Cake made by Nicolas Rouzaud:

    • Release volume: 136 bottles, 50cl
  • Tasting Notes
    • Appearance: Old polished rosewood with ruby lights.
    • Nose: A mellow nose-feel, lightly nose-drying. The aroma is elusive: very faint top notes suggest a dry chocolate sponge backed by desiccated coconut. Beneath this lie tantalising hints of sweetness in a subtle fruit complex, slightly tart, of the kind found in homemade black cherry jam. A note of Crème Anglaise develops over time, and the chocolate note increases slightly, especially with a drop of water, suggesting fruity nut and raisin chocolate.
    • Body: Medium
    • Palate: Creamy-smooth in texture and immediately sweet, it soon becomes lightly tart and drying, the sweetness now suggesting blackberries and dark red just-ripe plums or black cherries in syrup. More hints of fruit reinforce these initial impressions, while the taste is seasoned with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and crisp black pepper. A drop of water balances the primary tastes, bringing the smoothness and sweetness forward while reducing the tartness.
    • Finish: Quite long, slightly tart and elegantly dry, with another pinch of that pepper and a trace of milk chocolate in the after taste.
  • Overview of the ‘Notes of Black Cherry Gâteau’ Cake made by Nicolas Rouzaud:
    • Inspired by the Black Forest Gâteau, this creation showcases bold fruity flavours. A variety of Griottines cherries are blended with rich chocolate, highlighting the whisky’s vibrant black cherry notes.

Buffalo Trace Distillery April 2025 Flood Update

Buffalo Trace Distillery April 2025 Flood Update

FRANKFORT, KY (April 11, 2025) – The Kentucky River is returning to normal levels, and the Frankfort community is beginning to assess and understand the damage caused by flood waters across the region. At Buffalo Trace Distillery, flood waters have now completely receded, granting access and allowing for clean-up and recovery efforts to happen throughout the entirety of campus.

Distillery leadership teams, along with engineers and expert clean-up and restoration professionals, have begun performing detailed assessments and subsequent repairs for any of the buildings affected by flood waters. The amount of damage is still being determined.

I am grateful for the excellent preparation work that our teams completed in advance of the flood, which mitigated the extent of the damage we might otherwise have sustained. Similarly, based on previous floods, our full-scale recovery plan is underway. We are confident we will be back up and running shortly. As of this morning we started shipping our finished goods again and we expect to resume bottling sometime next week,” said Jake Wenz, Sazerac & Buffalo Trace Distillery CEO and President. “Restoration of this National Historic Landmark is our top priority to ensure a quick return to making quality, award-winning whiskey and welcoming guests from around the world. Our hearts remain with the rest of the community who are also dealing with the aftermath of this flood.”

Inspection of any barrels touched by the flood began Thursday, April 10 and will be ongoing until all have been appropriately assessed. This is a very involved process, including both barrel inspection as well as the same rigorous quality testing every bottle of whiskey undergoes at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Based on historical knowledge from previous floods, Buffalo Trace has been successful in recovering any barrels that might have been affected by flood waters; the Distillery is confident in its process. Inspection is expected to take several weeks, however, any loss of barrels is not expected to be meaningful.

A lot of heart and soul goes into every product we make, which is why our team is dedicated to testing with heavy scrutiny each barrel possibly affected by flood waters to ensure there are no issues,” said Harlen Wheatley, Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller. “We have never, nor will we ever, compromise on the quality or safety of the whiskey we make.”

Teams also started clean-up inside the Buffalo Trace Visitor Center, which saw flooding on the first floor and will require a period for repair. Teams are working diligently to re-open the Visitor Center in a modified manner as soon as possible. As of now, the Distillery will be closed to visitors through Sunday, April 13th. Additional updates regarding visitor access are as follows:

  • As a first step, the Distillery expects to operate a greatly modified retail experience early next week from the “Freehouse Building” – aka the visitor check-in center directly adjacent to the visitor parking lot.
  • This will be made accessible via an email reservation system available first to tour reservation holders whose visits were interrupted by the flooding.
  • More details will be shared as they are available on Buffalo Trace Distillery’s social media pages.
  • Until the Distillery fully reopens to visitors, only select team members, recovery experts and guests are permitted on-site.

We know it is disappointing to have the Distillery closed and it is our top priority to welcome guests again as soon as possible. Recovery and clean-up teams at Buffalo Trace Distillery will continue to work diligently to prepare the grounds for reopening and the facility for operation,” said Wenz. “We also want to again say a heartfelt thanks to our team who has been tireless in their support, and the Franklin County community as well as our fans and vendor partners for their support and understanding during this time. We look forward to welcoming you back soon,” said Wenz.

In the coming weeks Buffalo Trace looks forward to sharing details on forthcoming relief initiatives to further support the community. Should you want to support relief efforts in the immediate, the Franklin County Flood Relief Fund has been set up by the city to collect donations and offer aid to those who need it most. Bladnoch unveils new taste initiative to share its bold Galloway spirit – Scotch Whisky News

Bladnoch unveils new taste initiative to share its bold Galloway spirit

Scotland’s oldest privately-owned Scotch whisky distillery, Bladnoch has unveiled an innovative new global tasting initiative designed to give more whisky enthusiasts the chance to sample its bold Galloway spirit.

Designed to bring the distillery’s taste-first philosophy to life, the Bladnoch ‘dram back’ program will allow whisky fans to try single malts from the distillery, formerly known as ‘Queen of the Lowlands’.

Running from March, the ‘dram back’ initiative will initially be available on Bladnoch Wave I: Time & Maturation, before being rolled out across three more of the distillery’s most popular whiskies: Bladnoch Alinta, Bladnoch Samsara and Bladnoch 8 Year Old.

As part of the tasting initiative, 50cl dram sample pouches of Bladnoch Wave I: Time & Maturation will be available to order directly from the Bladnoch website, priced at £15 RRSP each including postage and packaging in the UK or as part of an international order, allowing whisky fans to put taste considerations front and centre when deciding on their next whisky purchase. Each tasting pouch is made with sugarcane, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly way to try a new whisky dram.

For a limited time only, Bladnoch Distillery will also give the ‘dram back’ to each of its customers if they go on to purchase a full-size bottle of the whisky they sampled at a later date, with the cost of their initial dram deducted from the bottle price at checkout.

Bladnoch Wave I: Time & Maturation is the first expression in The Wave: a five-part limited-edition series which showcases the five pillars of whisky making. Bottled at 53.8% ABV, the expression demonstrates the marrying process of whisky casks, opening with floral pine needles and fresh cut oak on the nose and imparting notes of sweet oak and toasted coconut on the palate, with a sweet, warm, refreshing finish.

‘Alinta’, an indigenous Australian word from several southeast Australian language groups, means ‘fire’ and ‘flames’ and evokes the notes of campfire embers found in each sip. Bladnoch Alinta utilises PX sherry and ex-bourbon casks combined with a sweet, smoky, peated spirit, setting this unique expression apart from anything previously released by Bladnoch.

Bladnoch Samsara, meaning ‘rebirth’, is a full-bodied and fragrant blend of malts matured in Californian red wine and ex-bourbon casks. This unique non-age-statement single malt whisky is rich and sweet, with notes of vanilla, fudge and citrus.

Bladnoch 8 Year Old is aged exclusively in American oak red wine casks, each hand-selected by Nick to bring together this rich expression featuring a nose of strawberries with herbal pine cones and a palate of strawberry jam, polished oak and nutmeg, with a very long, sugary and warm finish.

Nick Savage, master distiller at Bladnoch Distillery, said: “Our taste-first philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at Bladnoch. We’re proud of our signature grassy, floral spirit, which is typical of the Lowlands. However, we also use our taste-first approach to take educated risks and provide a range of whisky experiences, rather than being constrained by traditional whisky conventions.

“We believe that the best way to understand our taste-first philosophy is to taste it. Our ‘dram back’ initiative is our way of saying thank you for supporting our whisky, and we’re looking forward to sharing more drams with our whisky fans around the world this spring.”

Dating back to 1817, Bladnoch Distillery is one of the oldest single malt Scotch whisky producers in the world and is enjoying a bold and powerful revival. The legacy brand has been revived in recent years by David Prior, who purchased Bladnoch Distillery in 2015 and is the first Australian businessman to own a Scotch whisky distillery.

The 2025 “Greats of the Gate” bottle will honor the legendary racehorse Lexington, who competed from 1853 to 1855, winning six of seven races, and was famously sold to stud for the highest price ever paid for an American racehorse at the time.

“The ‘Greats of the Gate’ series is a unique opportunity to honor the legendary horses who shaped the sport while also supporting the organizations that allow Kentucky’s culture to thrive,” said Rob Samuels, eighth-generation whisky maker and Managing Director, Maker’s Mark. “We’re incredibly proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Keeneland, which has deep roots in Kentucky’s horse racing heritage and whose patrons enjoyed the very first Maker’s Mark cocktails in the 1950s.”

The bottle features an illustration by Kentucky artist Tyler Robertson with artwork wrapping around the bottle in orange and black – the racing silks colors of Lexington. The bottle’s crown will be dipped in bright orange wax and topped with a white silk ribbon. Every bottle will include a certificate of authenticity signed by Maker’s Mark Managing Director Rob Samuels; Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin; renowned artist Tyler Robertson; and Bret Jones, President of Airdrie Stud, and a descendant of the horse’s owners.

“Keeneland and Maker’s Mark share a mission of service and philanthropy that benefits both the horse industry and our community,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said. “We are proud the commemorative bottles continue to be both a prized collectors’ item for our fans and a successful fundraiser for so many worthwhile organizations.”

Proceeds from the commemorative bottle will benefit the nonprofits Kentucky Classic Arts by providing support for musical theatre performance opportunities for Central Kentucky; Kentucky Harvest by expanding their food rescue and donation efforts across the Commonwealth; Kentucky Arts Center of the Bluegrass providing free entry to guests for the museum along with arts programming; and Blue Grass Farms Charities through building a new pantry opening this summer at The Thoroughbred Center.

Over the course of the 10 years, Keeneland and Maker’s Mark are committed to raising $4 million for various Kentucky nonprofit organizations through this bottle series.

Rare Find, the well-regarded single cask and small batch independent bottler is marking the start of its 10th anniversary by revealing a lineup of new single malt whiskies that feature unique ‘firsts’ in the brands’ continuing journey.

Founded in Leith, Edinburgh, Rare Find bottles limited-edition whiskies sourced from sought-after distilleries – meticulously selecting, maturing, and finishing in the highest quality casks to deliver whiskies that are rare by design. The anticipated new expressions from the bottler showcases four exceptional Scotch single malt whiskies, including a debut from Glen Ord, a collaborative team selection, and a first experiment using a rum cask sourced from Foursquare in Barbados.

The 2025 Spring Rare Find releases consist of:

  • Glen Garioch 16-Year-Old (Ribera del Duero Finish): A milestone selection, this marks the first cask chosen collaboratively by the entire Rare Find team. Finished in a Spanish Ribera del Duero wine cask, it delivers a deep, complex profile with layers of dark fruit and spice.
  • Glen Ord 10-Year-Old (Châteauneuf-du-Pape Finish): The first Glen Ord ever released by Rare Find, this exquisite Highland single malt has been given a sophisticated twist with a finish in Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine casks, adding rich berry notes to its signature malt character.
  • Secret Lowland 11-Year-Old (Sherry Hogshead): A classic sherried Lowland malt, this expression offers a harmonious balance of dried fruit, toffee, and warm spices, perfect for sherry cask aficionados.
  • Dailuaine 16-Year-Old (Foursquare Rum Finish): A pioneering release, this is the first time Rare Find has worked with a Foursquare Rum cask. The result is a beautifully layered whisky where Dailuaine’s rich, malty character is complemented by tropical sweetness and oak spice from the renowned Barbadian distillery.

Speaking about the upcoming release, Greg Urquhart, Spirits Manager for Rare Find shared his excitement: “This latest collection is a testament to our relentless pursuit of quality and flavour, and each bottle tells a unique story, both of the liquid’s maturation and of the journey of Rare Find over the last decade. Maker’s Mark Celebrates its Warehouse Team with Latest Wood Finishing Series: The Keepers Release 2025 – American Whiskey News

Maker’s Mark Celebrates its Warehouse Team with Latest Wood Finishing Series: The Keepers Release 2025

LORETTO, Ky., Maker’s Mark, the iconic handmade Kentucky bourbon driven by a vision for better flavor and a better world, today announced the next iteration of its Wood Finishing Series, The Keepers Release 2025 – inspired by the warehouse team who ensure every barrel of Maker’s Mark matures consistently to the founders’ taste vision.

“From the beginning, our founders – my grandparents – went to remarkable lengths to create an uncompromisingly delicious bourbon,” said Rob Samuels, eighth generation whisky maker and managing director, Maker’s Mark. “We are delighted to introduce this latest Wood Finishing Series expression that celebrates the team who still rotate each and every barrel of Maker’s Mark by hand and who continue to embrace our founders’ perfectly unreasonable pursuit of excellence.”

Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series is a collection of one-of-a-kind expressions that use an innovative wood stave-finishing technique to enhance distinctive characteristics already present in the brand’s iconic bourbon. The Keepers Release 2025 showcases rich, oak-forward aromas of seasoned wood, brûléd sugar, and tobacco, leading to a long, enveloping finish characterized by dried dark fruit and a lingering roasted sweetness.

“The Keepers Release was born from our close collaboration with the Maker’s Mark warehouse team, the guardians of our barrels,” said Dr. Blake Layfield, master distiller, Maker’s Mark. Their sensory experience of Maker’s Mark is unlike anyone else’s — the aromatic oak at different times of the day, evolving tasting notes of our whisky as it ages over multiple seasons — which provided inspiration and helped us shape the flavors of this release.”

At 54.6% ABV / 109.2 proof, the release will be available at U.S. retailers for $74.99 beginning today. For more information, please visit www.MakersMark.com.

DEWAR’S BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY PUSHES THE BOUNDARIES OF INNOVATION AND DISCOVERY WITH RELEASE OF DOUBLE DOUBLE 21 YEAR OLD STONE TOASTED

DEWAR’S BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY PUSHES THE BOUNDARIES OF INNOVATION AND DISCOVERY WITH RELEASE OF DOUBLE DOUBLE 21 YEAR OLD STONE TOASTED

The world’s most awarded Blended Scotch is revolutionizing the art of cask finishing with an experimental stone toasting process using Icelandic Magma Rock

HAMILTON, Bermuda, – DEWAR’S® Blended Scotch Whisky, renowned for its pioneering and award-winning approach to blended Scotch, introduces the latest addition to its acclaimed Double Double series – DEWAR’S Double Double 21 Year Old Magma Stone Toasted. This cutting-edge release builds upon the award-winning Double Double 21 Year Old expression, introducing a new cask-finishing technique that sets a new benchmark for innovation in whisky maturation.

Crafted by six-time Master Blender of the Year, Stephanie Macleod and her blending team, this limited-edition release follows DEWAR’S signature four-stage aging process, ensuring extraordinary depth, balance, and complexity. This new iteration is finished in virgin French Oak casks that have never been previously filled and stone toasted using Icelandic magma rock—a method rarely, if ever, applied to whisky making.

“Our motivation is to always aspire to make ever greater whisky,” says Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender at DEWAR’S. “Curiosity and experimentation allow us to respond to the present and future desires of whisky lovers, and the Magma Stone Toasted expression embodies this philosophy, as we believe we are the first whisky to use this technique. We are always looking to push the boundaries and find new ways to do things, and this new finishing process has unlocked an entirely new spectrum of flavor for Scotch.”

The technique harnesses controlled, radiant heat from pre-heated Icelandic magma stones, allowing for more precise, even toasting that gently enhances the whisky’s fruit-forward character. Unlike traditional fire toasting, which relies on open flames, this method ensures uniform heat distribution across barrels, eliminating flare-ups that can cause inconsistent toast levels from cask to cask. To achieve this feat, the process employs electricity to heat the Icelandic magma stones, reducing reliance on combustion-based methods and lowering carbon emissions in barrel production, and the stones are placed in a metal cylinder within the cask, gradually emitting heat to gently open the oak’s pores. The result is an exquisitely layered whisky that showcases notes of cinnamon, cloves, creamy caramel, and baked apples, complemented by toasted cereal and a refined oak presence.

Brian Cox, Vice President of DEWAR’S North America commented: “This expression is more than just a new finish—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, discovery, and the evolving art of cask maturation. By introducing something new and different to the category, we’re offering whisky lovers and newcomers alike a new way to experience the depth and refinement of Dewar’s, inviting them to discover rich layers of flavor shaped by time, tradition, and experimentation.”

DEWAR’S Double Double 21 Year Old Magma Stone Toasted follows the celebrated success of previous releases in the Double Double series, including Mizunara Oak finish, further cementing the brand’s position as a leader in innovation. As with all Double Double releases, this expression is non-chill filtered and contains no added caramel coloring. This limited-edition expression is bottled at 46% ABV, available in 750ml format, and carries a suggested retail price of $139.99.

For those interested in diving deeper into the creation process, DEWAR’S invites whisky enthusiasts to explore an educational video featuring Stephanie Macleod, detailing the meticulous craftsmanship behind this unique expression.
