Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Limited Edition Release of Heaven Hill 27-Year-Old Barrel Proof Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Less than 3,000 bottles of pre-fire Bourbon available in this one time-release

BARDSTOWN, KY – Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the release of Heaven Hill 27-Year-Old Barrel Proof Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a rare bottling produced at Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery before it was destroyed by fire in 1996. Only 41 barrels produced in 1989 and 1990 passed taste testing for inclusion in this limited release that represents Heaven Hill’s heritage of distilling.

“As stewards of the Bourbon movement we take pride in the perseverance that is a hallmark of Heaven Hill’s 83-year history,” said President Max L. Shapira. “We remain committed to an enduring legacy of quality and patience, just as we have since 1935.”

Heaven Hill Barrel Proof Small Batch Bourbon, selected from limited remaining stocks of pre-fire barrels, has been closely monitored and allowed to age for an astounding 27 years. All but five of the barrels in this small batch were aged on the first and second floors, where increased humidity and evaporation caused the proof to drop. When all 41 barrels were mingled for bottling, the natural barrel proof was an unusually low 94.7 proof (47.35% abv). The resulting taste profile begins with an aroma of dried fruits and baking spices, with pipe tobacco notes developing after some time in the glass. A gentle entry is followed by an explosion of vanilla and floral flavor with traces of pepper and clove. After a slow and warming build up, the finish is incredibly long, yet very soft.

This ultra-premium Bourbon will be released in an elegant, tall 750ml bottle placed in a custom wooden box bearing two H’s on each side signifying the Heaven Hill name. The bottle is secured in the box with magnetic closure and sits in a blue satin-lined base. The distiller’s notes label features hand-written bottle numbers, distiller tasting notes, and DSP-KY-31, denoting the Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery. The one-time release of Heaven Hill 27-Year-Old Barrel Proof Small Batch Bourbon, shipping late fall 2018, will be available in limited markets for a suggested retail price of $399.

THE MACALLAN UNVEILS M BLACK – 2017 Release ~ A LIMITED EDITION SINGLE MALT WHISKY IN A LALIQUE BLACK CRYSTAL DECANTER – Scotch Whisky News

MAC-2018-M-Black-Print-Use-Bottle-and-Pack_preview

THE MACALLAN UNVEILS M BLACK – 2017 Release

A LIMITED EDITION SINGLE MALT WHISKY IN A LALIQUE BLACK CRYSTAL DECANTER

New York, June 27, 2018 – The Macallan has released a new creation, celebrating the extraordinary collaboration between three masters of their crafts: The Macallan, Fabien Baron and Lalique.

The Macallan M Black 2017 Release is the latest and most complex masterpiece in the remarkable M series of single malt whiskies. In partnership with renowned creative director Fabien Baron and crystal masters Lalique, The Macallan M Black’s intriguing single malt comes encased in one of the world’s most beautifully designed and meticulously handcrafted crystal decanters.

Limited to 725 black crystal decanters worldwide, with only 40 decanters allocated to the United States, each decanter is engraved with its own individual number which will drive collectibility. It will be released worldwide from June 2018 onwards, at an estimated retail price of $6,995 USD.

An evolution of the iconic M Decanter, this new step into lustrous black crystal from Lalique was crafted to reflect the diverse history of The Macallan single malt and presents a striking complement to an uncharacteristically smoky Macallan. Reflecting a lifetime of whisky, M Black truly encapsulates The Macallan’s established history as an innovative and exceptional single malt, and represents absolute time distilled. This is all captured in flawless black crystal, a more complex and technically challenging material to craft than clear crystal.

A testament to the custodians who have nurtured and guarded the casks and their precious contents for generations, this first release of M Black displays a rich natural color, with an ABV of 45%. Drawn from sherry-seasoned oak casks, a proportion of which contained peated malt, it delivers a profile of dark fruit, chocolate and espresso, which open into wood spice and an edge of peat. On the nose, there is rich cherry chocolate sweetness and fresh citrus notes with dried fruit, before salted caramel moves into whispers of peat smoke. The smokiness increases on the palate but serves to complement the flavors of green apples, citrus and dried fruit.

Crafted from just six sherry-seasoned casks, three butts and three hogsheads, M Black is a testament to   exceptional cask ageing and the craft of whisky making. The use of smaller 250L hogsheads serves to intensify the complex flavor profile.

Capturing the expressive aesthetic of Fabien Baron’s illustrious creative vision, the M Black decanter’s tall, slim dimensions and iconic geometric form push the boundaries of traditional decanter design. Its sharp, angular facets gave inspiration to the name M Black itself, selected as a typographic representation of the decanter’s striking design. The name also conveys the black crystal material of the decanter and hints at the dark flavor profile of the whisky encased within.

Lalique has drawn on 150 years of mastery and dedication, and its long-standing relationship with The Macallan, to bring refinement and flawless clarity to M Black. Fashioned in the highest-grade black crystal for the first time, each handcrafted decanter unites tradition with striking originality.

“An incredible collaboration between three masters, The Macallan M Black has been brought to conception by creative director Fabien Baron; brought to life by Lalique’s mastery of crystal; and brought to purpose by The Macallan’s whisky makers,” said Geoff Kirk, Director of Prestige for The Macallan. “Presented in an extraordinary handcrafted black crystal decanter, M Black reflects a lifetime of whisky and continues to showcase the vital influence of The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks and the ultimate craft of whisky making. M Black is a true work of art which raises the bar for whisky decanters around the world.”

Silvio Denz, Chairman of Lalique, remarks, “It is an honour to have worked with The Macallan – our long-standing partner for over a decade – to realise this exquisite piece and showcase our shared sense of mastery, craftsmanship and heritage. The decanter is completely unique in the world of decanters, very difficult to produce because of its shape and black color. The Lalique masters of crystal have relished applying their most complex skills to bring Fabien Baron’s creative vision to life in spectacular black crystal.”

THE GLENLIVET INVITES YOUR PALATE ON A COGNAC ADVENTURE WITH THE LAUNCH OF AN INNOVATIVE NEW WHISKY – Scotch Whisky News

THE GLENLIVET INVITES YOUR PALATE ON A COGNAC ADVENTURE WITH THE LAUNCH OF AN INNOVATIVE NEW WHISKY

The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve is a stunning new Single Malt that has been selectively finished in high quality Cognac casks and has launched worldwide

To celebrate ‘The Finish’ The Glenlivet has collaborated with Michelin-Starred chef, Founder of St. John restaurant, Fergus Henderson, Bar Swift Founder, Bobby Hiddleston and Beverage and Still Photographer, Addie Chinn

22 June 2018 – The Glenlivet celebrated the release of its latest whisky, Captain’s Reserve at a global launch event in London yesterday. Captain’s Reserve is a new Single Malt Scotch whisky that has been selectively finished in high quality Cognac casks, offering a new contemporary taste whilst paying homage to the importance of the finish, much like many craftsmen, whose finishing touches add a wholly new perspective.

The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve maintains the distillery’s long tradition of pushing boundaries through innovation and is the result of a long period of flavour and cask experimentation.  Much like an artist’s finishing touches to their work that can result in an entirely different creative journey, here, The Glenlivet has created a rich new whisky selectively finished in Cognac cask that provides an experimental journey of taste – an industry first for any major Single Malt brand. The influence of the Cognac cask in the finishing process, results in a stunning Single Malt that borrows cognac’s luxurious flavour and marries it perfectly with the distinctly Speyside style that is The Glenlivet’s trademark. The Cognac cask adds a raisin-rich and intense flavour that is perfectly blended with the creamy fruity smoothness of The Glenlivet house style.

Throughout the creative world, a finishing touch can be the defining characteristic to a piece of work and has the power to add a different perspective. The world of Single Malt Scotch whisky is no different. To highlight how a finish can do this, The Glenlivet collaborated with world-renowned names from the culinary, photography and drinks worlds by holding exclusive immersive experiences around ‘finishing touches’ for its guests in London.

Michelin-starred Chef Fergus Henderson MBE, Founder of St John restaurants, Beverage and Still Photographer Addie Chinn, and Bobby Hiddleston, Bar Swift Founder and Master Mixologist each held bespoke sessions. The collaborators were selected by The Glenlivet as masters in their fields, and for their capacity to show the power of ‘The Finish’ in their own work.

Alan Winchester, The Glenlivet Master Distiller comments on Captain’s Reserve:

“We know whisky drinkers and in particular, Single Malt drinkers, are becoming increasingly adventurous when it comes to seeking out new and interesting flavours. So, we decided to set ourselves a challenge, to create something exciting and daring to provoke the evolving taste of The Glenlivet’s consumers.”

Alan Winchester continues describing the fine-tuning skill that creates the perfect finish: “It’s an art form. After maturing the whisky in a combination of American Oak and ex-Sherry Oak casks for many years and selectively finishing it in ex-Cognac casks, we’ve mastered the delicate but delicious balance between the influence of the finish and The Glenlivet signature style. Captain’s Reserve offers whisky drinkers the opportunity to broaden their Single Malt Scotch repertoire, and to try something new, creating a whole new taste experience.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Fergus Henderson said: “A dish can be transformed by the magic of finishing additions: there is great power in a caper, or a pickled walnut! The same is true for a whisky; there is great power in a Cognac cask. It’s no secret that I am partial to a dram, so I am delighted by this collaboration.”

Addie Chinn who has been shooting cocktails photos around the world said:With a great The Glenlivet cocktail selection ‘Finished’ by Bobby Hiddleston and guests, the photography must do them justice. Everyone likes to show off their food and drink on social media these days. So, just as you would garnish a cocktail or dish to give it that finishing touch, so too should your photographs be edited – even if only subtly – to make them stand out. With apps and programs so readily available, there’s no excuse for not giving your images that final touch.”

Commenting on how a finish can change a drink, Bobby Hiddleston said:

“The finish is everything with the drink, whether it’s a Single Malt finished in Cognac casks or a carefully crafted cocktail. For example, using The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve as a cocktail base last night, I’ve showcased how different garnishes and the use of atomisers can hugely affect the finish on the drink.”

Captain’s Reserve is a tribute to Captain William Smith Grant, great-grandson of George Smith, founder of The Glenlivet, whose name adorns every bottle. The Captain not only fought in the First World War in France, but went on to fight for The Glenlivet, guiding the distillery through the difficult Prohibition years and leading the Single Malt Scotch whisky revival in the UK and the US.

The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve is available worldwide from now at the RRP in the UK of between £45-48.

Notes:

NOSE: Bursting with sweet and fruity aromas. Rich in honey and apricot jam, with notes of sweet cinnamon bread and a subtle sensation of spicy liquorice.

TASTE: Succulent flavours of mandarins in syrup, ripe poached pears and chocolate-dipped raisins.

FINISH: Incredibly smooth and luscious.

About The Glenlivet:

Created by George Smith in 1824, The Glenlivet is The Definitive Speyside Single Malt, renowned for its heritage as a visionary within the single malts category. Standout initiatives include the release of The Glenlivet Cipher, a mystery single malt, and the creation of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, a great representation of the distillery’s signature style.

Wyoming Whiskey Introduces Steamboat Special Edition Whiskey – American Whiskey News

Wyoming Whiskey Introduces Steamboat Special Edition

Wyoming Whiskey Introduces Steamboat Special Edition Whiskey

A lighter, sweeter offering inspired by the Cowboy State

KIRBY, WY (June 13, 2018)— Wyoming Whiskey announces the release of its Steamboat Special Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey with one thousand cases of  Steamboat to be distributed exclusively in Wyoming beginning Friday, June 22nd.

A 750ml bottle of Steamboat with custom labeling will retail for $45 in a limited edition canister featuring the historic image of Steamboat from the Wyoming State Archives. Steamboat is smooth, easy-drinking, and slightly lighter than Wyoming Whiskey’s Small Batch bourbon with a red berry note complementing its customary vanilla and caramel flavor profile.  It is bottled at 90 proof.

The label of this bottle pays tribute to Chugwater, the birthplace of Steamboat, with an image of the Chugwater Cliffs.

Like all WW products, Steamboat is 100% locally-sourced and was named after the Cowboy State’s iconic symbol which is represented on the Wyoming license plate.  Steamboat was the name of an “unrideable” horse ridden by Clayton Danks in the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo in 1909.  While some controversy surrounds the identity of the rider, the duo is believed to be the bronc and rider that inspired Wyoming’s revered logo.

“Steamboat Special Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey may be found at Wyoming liquor stores throughout the state,” said co-founder David DeFazio, “And, unlike the horse, this whiskey doesn’t buck.”

Diageo appoints three “dream jobs” in Scotch whisky – Scotch Whisky News

Diageo appoints three “dream jobs” in Scotch whisky

Diageo has appointed three of the most coveted jobs in the Scotch whisky industry: lead roles for the investment project to bring the iconic Port Ellen and Brora distilleries back to life, and a new manager for the famous Lagavulin Distillery on Islay.

Last year, we announced that Port Ellen and Brora – two of the most revered “lost” distilleries in the global spirits industry – are to be brought back to life, in a powerful statement of confidence in the future of Scotch whisky.

The distilleries will have dedicated Brand Homes to welcome guests and they are expected to become iconic attractions in the Scottish tourism landscape, attracting whisky pilgrims from around the globe.

Georgie Crawford, one of the most respected distillery managers in the industry with seven years’ experience of running the Lagavulin Distillery, will now be responsible for bringing Port Ellen Distillery back into production 35 years after it closed.

Leading the equivalent revival of the Brora Distillery in Sutherland will be Brora native Stewart Bowman, who previously was part of the team at Clynelish Distillery.

Lagavulin Distillery, situated on Islay, will be managed by Colin Gordon, who will move from his previous job managing Diageo’s Port Ellen Maltings on Islay, where the peated malt barley is made for Lagavulin and Caol Ila Distilleries.

Announcing the Port Ellen and Brora appointments, Diageo’s Distillation & Maturation Director, Keith Miller said: “Bringing Port Ellen and Brora distilleries back into production are dream jobs for any whisky-maker and I’m delighted to appoint Georgie and Stewart to these key leadership roles.

“They both have the experience and knowledge of their craft that we need to bring these distilleries back with meticulous care and attention to detail. I’m also pleased that they are both from the local communities where the distilleries are located and they bring a great understanding of the heritage and roots of these distilleries.

On the appointment of the new Lagavulin Distillery Manager, he said: “Running Lagavulin Distillery is one of the most highly prized jobs in Scotch whisky and I am delighted to appoint Colin Gordon to the role. Colin is one of our most promising young whisky-makers and he has built up terrific experience and skill in his time with Diageo. I know he will do a great job leading the team at Lagavulin.”

“It has been a real privilege to be the Lagavulin Distillery Manager and to work with the fantastic team there for so many years. However, the opportunity to bring Port Ellen Distillery back into production truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am thrilled to take it on.”

Isle of Arran Distillers eye spring 2019 opening for Lagg Distillery – Scotch Whisky News

Lagg550

Isle of Arran Distillers eye spring 2019 opening for Lagg Distillery

Construction of the Isle of Arran Distillers second distillery on the south of the island is on track to be completed and open to the public by spring 2019.

The most recent milestone at the Lagg Distillery is the completion of the steelworks. With the structure now in place, the Distillery has begun to take on its distinctive shape, overlooking the south coast of Arran and the Firth of Clyde. The new distillery has been positioned next to fields of barley that provide a portion of the malt currently used in distillation at Lochranza.

Come the turn of the year the copper pot stills will be installed, shortly followed by the first production run with a heavily-peated (50ppm) spirit that will become in time the flagship Lagg Distillery Single Malt Scotch whisky.

Seven hundred of these casks were first made available to purchase in February and, so far, have proved a very attractive offering for a variety of individuals from all over the world. As well as being an opportunity to be part of single malt history on the Isle of Arran, every cask owner will become a member of the exclusive Lagg Cask Society. Membership guarantees a bottle from the very first cask to be filled at Lagg which is reserved exclusively for the Society. In addition, each member will have their name displayed on the Lagg ‘Wall of Fame’ and receive an invite to the Lagg Cask Society Members Day for a first-look of the distillery and visitor centre before its official opening.

Once the casks have been laid down they will remain at the distillery for a minimum of ten years of maturation under the careful eye of Graham Omand, who has recently been appointed the distillery manager of the Lagg Distillery.

Graham is the nephew of the Isle of Arran Distillers master distiller James MacTaggart. He has been working under his uncle’s guidance at the Lochranza Distillery for over eight years. Speaking about the progress, Euan Mitchell, Managing Director of Isle of Arran Distillers, said: “It is fantastic to see the vision turning into a reality. With just under a year to go until we plan to open the Lagg Distillery, we’re delighted to confirm that everything is on target to be completed by spring next year. We’re assembling a team, headed up by Graham, which will play an integral role in growing the business and producing rich, earthy and high-quality peated spirit.

“The decision to concentrate on heavily peated single malts at the Lagg Distillery comes after the popularity of our Machrie Moor limited edition range.  Being able to dedicate the facility to this style of whisky will enable further innovation, becoming a space where we can experiment with different flavours.”

When fully operational in 2019 the Lagg Distillery will increase Isle of Arran’s production capacity to 2 million litres. Further, the total visitor numbers to both distillery sites are expected to exceed 200,000 by 2020.
