HATOZAKI WHISKY LAUNCHES TRIPLE CASK RESERVE: A NEW PERMANENT LABEL – Japanese Whisky News

HATOZAKI WHISKY LAUNCHES TRIPLE CASK RESERVE: A NEW PERMANENT LABEL

The latest expression from Master Distiller & Blender Kimio Yonezawa joins the core range of premium world whiskies finished at the Kaikyō Distillery in Southern Japan

New York, New York – Hatozaki Whisky is pleased to announce the release of their newest expression, Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve. An original and rare expression, Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve embodies Master Distiller and Blender Kimio Yonezawa’s vision to create delicate, beautiful world whiskies in the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship. The new bottle is now available in the US for a suggested retail price of $74.99 (750-ml).

Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve represents the precision and artistry honed by Kimio Yonezawa over decades of study and application of the highest standard of whisky-making techniques. A blend of hand-selected malt whiskies, the liquid is aged first in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks before finishing for an additional six months in superior Umeshu plum liqueur barrels. Known as “ume,” Umeshu plum liqueur is a popular Japanese liqueur crafted from steeping local green plums in Japanese distillate. This maturation, unique to Triple Cask Reserve, imparts delicate, complex flavors of zesty citrus, refreshing herbal notes like tea, and subtle sweetness.

“Finishing a whisky in Umeshu plum liqueur barrels is rare in the whisky world, and I wanted to explore how the flavorful plum liqueur influence would transform the blend,” says Kimio Yonezawa. “The intense plum aromas add a layer of depth and subtle sweetness that sets it apart from other traditionally distilled whiskies.”

Produced at the Kaikyō Distillery on the southern coast of Japan, Hatozaki Whisky is a signature expression of Yonezawa’s modern whisky making. Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve emerges as an elegant yet accessible whisky, best sipped slowly and savored with friends and family to create memorable moments. It is now available in most major US markets.

HATOZAKI TRIPLE CASK RESERVE, 92 PROOF/ABV 46%

COLOR: Golden

NOSE: Fragrant oak spice with black tea and oranges, followed by dried apricots and a touch of vanilla harmonizing with the lightly toasted sweet barley aromas.

MOUTH: The palate opens with a gentle oak spiciness, accompanied by hints of dried peel and flavors of Umeshu. The mid-palate maintains a lightness, revealing more pronounced wood tones and a delicate presence of the spirit.

STYLE: Round, subtle, delicately sweet

Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve joins the brand’s core range of whiskies including Hatozaki Finest Whisky ($45.99, 750ml, 40% ABV), and Small Batch Whisky ($65.99, 750ml, 46% ABV). All Hatozaki whiskies contain no coloring or chill filtration.

NEW EDEN MILL DISTILLERY NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL – Scotch Whisky News

NEW EDEN MILL DISTILLERY NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL

Independent Scottish distiller Eden Mill has completed commissioning of their new distillery, with both gin and single malt whisky now being produced on-site. Their first cask – a Scottish Oak cask – was filled on Monday 7th April.

This momentous occasion marks the end of twenty-one months of building work following the handover from the University of St Andrews in June 2023.

The incredible space holds a mash tun, six washbacks, a gin still, wash and spirit stills, hot liquor tanks and a cask warehouse with space to store 300 casks. The state-of-the-art distillery has a capacity of 1 million litres of pure alcohol (LPA) per year and is a fantastic addition to the vibrant distilling scene that already exists within the region of Fife.

With just under 400 casks remaining from the single malt distilled at their original distillery located on the same site, Eden Mill is now turning their attention to restarting whisky production with a view to filling hundreds more casks with their new-make spirit, ready to be laid down to mature.

Located just ten minutes from St Andrews town centre on the University of St Andrews ‘Eden Campus’, Eden Mill will open a world-class visitor centre to tourists which will offer immersive gin and whisky experiences, a retail space and a top-floor cocktail bar featuring fantastic views over the Eden Estuary. The work on the visitor centre is expected to complete this summer, with a planned opening date of August.

Commenting on the news, Rennie Donaldson, Chief Executive Officer at Eden Mill said: “The new distillery marks a step change for our business and follows years of hard work by the whole team. To be able to announce that our new distillery is now fully operational is incredibly exciting and we are just a few short months away from being able to open our doors to the public and welcome visitors from all over the world.”

Adding to Rennie’s comments, Eden Mill’s Head Distiller Scott Ferguson said: “Following the installation of our copper stills in January, we have been progressing towards getting the distillery operational and refining our new-make spirit. My objective is to replicate the profile of what we used to distil at our original site – a light, sweet spirit with floral and grassy notes. I am looking forward to coming to work at this beautiful location every day and to overseeing the distillation of our excellent products.”

All electricity at Eden Mill’s distillery will be 100% renewable, coming from either the solar farm belonging to the University of St Andrews or from renewable tariffs on the grid. The business is working on various other sustainability initiatives, including their partnership with MiAlgae which was announced in October 2024.

Eden Mill

https://www.edenmill.com/

Eden Mill distillery, established in 2012 on the banks of the Eden Estuary in St Andrews, was the first distillery to make spirits in the region in over 150 years. Today, Eden Mill has a unique selection of limited release Single Malts, and an extensive gin portfolio crafted from the finest botanicals, many sourced from in and around Fife.

Eden Mill has an ambition to create the finest gins and Scotch Whiskies with minimal environmental impact combining traditional distilling techniques with innovation. Eden Mill is building a stunning new distillery at the mouth of the river Eden, overlooking the iconic, historic town of St Andrews. The new distillery sits at the heart of the University of St Andrews Eden Campus, a unique site dedicated to sustainable businesses and research.

Fielden Whisky Reveals Summer Partnerships to Promote Regenerative Farming Practices – English Whisky News

Fielden Whisky reveals summer partnerships to

promote regenerative farming practices

‘FIELDS FULL OF LIFE – WHISKY FULL OF FLAVOUR’

Fielden Whisky is showcasing its commitment to regenerative, low-intervention farming practices this summer at a series of high profile countryside and agricultural events.

The award-winning rye whisky brand, known for its pioneering approach to regenerative farming, is dedicated to raising awareness of the vital role that responsible grain cultivation plays in the production of premium whisky.

As a leader in advocating a “no chem regen” philosophy, Fielden is helping to reshape the conversation around the whisky industry’s impact on the environment. By championing regenerative farming without the use of chemicals and working with a growing number of farming partners, the brand highlights the importance of nurturing the land to produce the highest quality raw materials for whisky.

Fielden’s summer season will kick off in partnership with Daylesford Organic for their inaugural event in Daylesford’s new ‘Love The Land’ Series. Soil & Supper is a celebration of the land through feasting, music, whisky and dance taking place on 17th May. The event is inspired by ‘Rogationside’ – an ancient English ritual dating back to the 5th century – where the land was blessed to yield a prosperous harvest. It is a night to remember the importance of living with the seasons and caring for the soil – a philosophy shared by both Fielden and Daylesford Organic.

This event will be shortly followed by Fielden’s presence at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, where Fielden will debut a partnership with Kent Wildflower Seeds and artist Francis Costelloe. Transporting visitors to a traditional cottage garden and framed by Fielden’s rye fields via a large-scale painted landscape backdrop, the display is designed to challenge the idea that wildflowers are weeds. It will take visitors on a journey through the garden into the surrounding fields bursting with life to showcase Fielden’s commitment to simple, natural interventions that restore balance, resilience, and biodiversity. Visitors to the shared stand will be able to order a sample of Fielden’s award-winning Rye whisky, while learning about the regenerative farming practices that help bring this unique spirit to life.

Later into the summer, Fielden will be the headline sponsor at Groundswell Festival on July 2–3. Held at Lannock Manor Farm in Hertfordshire, Groundswell is a cornerstone of the regenerative farming movement, providing an ideal platform for discussions around sustainable farming techniques. Fielden will be hosting two exclusive banquets, welcoming guests to its exhibitor stand at the festival, delivering the only dedicated whisky bar on site and will be sampling throughout the festival. Through this event, Fielden aims to further its mission to promote the benefits of regenerative practices in both agriculture and spirits production.

In addition to these countryside-focused collaborations, Fielden is expanding its reach through exciting new retail partnerships. This includes a limited edition release with Fortnum & Mason this month (April), a new listing at Daylesford’s Cotswold Store, and a nationwide debut on Ocado in early summer.

Fielden’s dedication to regenerative farming extends across more than 1,400 acres in the UK, where the brand works closely with a network of farmers who prioritise soil health and biodiversity. By employing nature-first techniques such as using clover to protect the soil and nurture crops – replacing the need for chemical intervention – Fielden ensures that its grains thrive, yielding maximum flavour for its signature rye whisky.

David Smith, CEO of Fielden Whisky, commented: “We take great pride in being at the forefront of the farming conversation within the whisky industry. Our summer partnerships are a reflection of our commitment to showcasing the impact that responsible farming has on the quality of our whisky. By supporting regenerative practices, we’re not only helping to preserve the land for future generations, but also enhancing the whisky experience for consumers who are eager to learn about the origins of what’s in their glass.”

Fielden Rye Whisky is available at leading UK retailers, Berry Bros. & Rudd, The Goodman Group, Amathus, The Whisky Shop, Fortnum & Mason, Hedonism Wines and a growing number of independent stores, bars, and restaurants. (RRP: £62.50). Fielden’s new limited edition release in partnership with Fortnum & Mason is in store this week, RRP: £135.

The first in a series of nationwide releases in Penelope’s new ready-to-pour portfolio, Peach Old Fashioned is packaged in a striking 750mL white matte bottle with elegant peach-colored lettering. It is bottled at 80 proof and available for a minimum suggested retail price of $29.99.

“Peach Old Fashioned is our first leap into the ready-to-pour category and we think folks will really enjoy it,” said Michael Paladini, Penelope Bourbon founder and vice president of strategy for MGP Ingredients. “We handpicked the bourbon and rye we used, along with the premium ingredients, to craft a modern take on an iconic classic. We think this will be a go-to for anyone looking for a delicious old fashioned at a great price.”

Peach Old Fashioned opens with inviting aromas of dark cherry and vanilla, complemented by hints of stone fruit and orange peel. On the palate, rich vanilla and allspice mingle with decadent peach and fig, leading to a lingering finish of caramel syrup and sweet candied ginger spice.

“Old fashioneds are one of our personal favorite cocktails to drink, especially the peach old fashioned variation,” said Danny Polise, Penelope Bourbon founder and master blender. “So when we set out to create a ready-to-pour cocktail, it was clear where to begin. Most importantly, we wanted to create a cocktail with the same great taste as if it were made from scratch in your own home or at a great bar. Teaming up with Nashville, Tennessee, cocktail creator Tim Beckner, we created a recipe layered with flavor using quality ingredients you’d find behind any great bar. Distilled at the ‘lost distillery’* of Speyside Distillers, the 18-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the company’s oldest whisky release yet.

With only 336 bottles available, priced at £162 each – this is the first in a brand-new series from the Falkland whisky bottlers. Bottled at 48.8% ABV, the liquid has a deep-copper richness in colour, heavily influenced by 1st Fill Pedro Ximenez and Bodegas Ximenez-Spinola casks.

The Saltire Rare Malt Cigar Series whiskies are designed to be the perfect partner for the finest, premium cigars. The first in the collection is available to buy online at their website now: https://www.saltireraremalt.com/

Saltire Rare Malt works with world-renowned whisky experts Hans & Becky Offringa — known internationally as ‘The Whisky Couple’ — who personally curate the entirety of the Saltire Rare Malt Collection. ‘The Whisky Couple’ describe the first in the Cigar Malt Series from Speyside Distillers as having a “beautiful copper colour*” with notes of “unripe pineapple, spicy oak, and maple syrup on pancakes” followed by “a maraschino cherry infused with Angostura bitters, milk chocolate, and a hint of liquorice in the finish.”

‘The Whisky Couple’ bring over 50 years of unrivalled industry experience and are a trusted part of the Saltire family. With incomparable guidance and advice, if curators Hans & Becky disapprove of a sample, the cask will not be bottled.

Commenting on the release of the Cigar Malt Series, Saltire Rare Malt Founder & Director Keith Rennie said: “We are so proud to announce the first release from our brand-new Cigar Malt Series. It’s an idea we’ve been discussing for a while, and once we saw the reaction from our trusted whisky experts Hans & Becky, we knew we had created something very special.

Tomatin introduces Double Cask 13-year-old single malt travel retail exclusive – Scotch Whisky News

Tomatin introduces Double Cask 13-year-old single malt travel retail exclusive

Highland distiller Tomatin has bolstered its global travel retail range with the release of an exclusive double cask 13-year-old single malt whisky.

Available now from selected global travel retail outlets, Tomatin Double Cask 13 Year Old is matured in bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks, creating a classically smooth single malt in the distillery’s flagship style.

Bottled at 43% ABV with an RRP of £54.95 (€64.90 EUR), Tomatin Double Cask 13 Year Old presents a nose of baked apples and pears with clove-spiced caramel sauce and tropical aromas delivering hints of coconut and guava. On the palate there are flavours of chocolatey granola with yoghurt-coated dried cranberries and sultana with a touch of cinnamon.

Available as a 1-litre exclusive for global travel retail, Tomatin Double Cask 13 Year Old will complement the distiller’s existing global travel retail range, which includes Tomatin 8 Year Old, a vanilla-sweet 1-litre whisky matured in bourbon and sherry casks (RRP £42 GBP; €47.50 EUR); Tomatin 16 Year Old, a luxurious single malt crafted in Portuguese Moscatel wine barriques (£74.95 GBP; €89.90 EUR); Tomatin 21 Year Old, matured solely in exclusive first-fill ex-bourbon casks (£190 GBP; €224.90 EUR); and Tomatin 45 Year Old, aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and bottled in its most natural form, yielding just 250 special bottles (€5,500 EUR).

The 13-year-old single malt will feature a refreshed outer packaging and label design. Its rich purple colour was carefully selected to increase standout and vibrancy on shelf, with gold detailing elegantly symbolising the tree rings found in oak – a nod to the distillery’s first-class wood policy and commitment to knowing the history of each cask that passes through its warehouses.

Tomatin Double Cask 13 Year Old will replace the distillery’s existing Tomatin 12 Year Old in global travel retail.

Tomatin 12 Year Old will remain for sale in all global domestic markets.

Tomatin 8 Year Old will also carry the refreshed outer packaging and label design, with a teal blue box and label adorned with the range’s signature gold detailing. The 8-year-old whisky’s nose has aromas of vanilla-sweetened baked apples and pears developing into deeper dark fruit flavours, gently balanced with ginger and cinnamon for a sweet and spicy finish, presented in a uniquely generous yet elegant 1-litre bottle. It will be available to buy in global travel retail outlets from summer 2025.

Tomatin Distillery has partnered with Rumesco Agencies, which represents premium, niche brands in European travel retail, since 2017.

Rumesco Agencies is founded by Rudy Leentjes, a travel retail professional for more than 40 years with a background in Seagram, Allied Domecq, Beam Suntory and Maxxium travel retail.

Graham Nicolson, global sales director at Tomatin, said:

“Our global travel retail range showcases the unrivalled variety and quality of casks we have to offer at Tomatin Distillery. The introduction of our 13-year-old single malt whisky is a natural evolution in our portfolio and a welcome addition to the range.

“Refreshing the outer packaging for our global travel retail whiskies is part of our brand progression in this area. It was important to us to consider the influence of oak in creating our single malt whiskies, with gold detailing on outer packs designed to honour the importance of wood quality in all that we do.”

With a proud heritage dating back to the 15th century, Tomatin has been a home for the whisky making team’s dedicated craftsmen and their families since the current distillery was established in 1897.

Tomatin 13 Year Old is available from April in major UK and international airports including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Istanbul and other travel retail outlets worldwide, priced at £54.95 RRP for a 100cl bottle.

Building upon this triumph, 2024 saw Tomatin’s 18 Year Old secured Double Gold for the third consecutive year at the SFWSC, elevating it to Platinum status. Meanwhile, both Tomatin’s 45 Year Old and 12 Year Old, alongside Cù Bòcan’s 15 Year Old took home Double Gold Awards, and Cù Bòcan’s 12 Year Old also secured a prestigious Gold Award.
