MERIDIAN BIOTECH TO OPEN NEW FACILITY IN FRANKLIN COUNTY SET TO TRANSFORM DISTILLERY BYPRODUCTS INTO ALTERNATIVE PROTEINS – American Whiskey News

MERIDIAN BIOTECH TO OPEN NEW FACILITY IN FRANKLIN COUNTY SET TO TRANSFORM DISTILLERY BYPRODUCTS INTO ALTERNATIVE PROTEINS

In partnership with Buffalo Trace Distillery, Meridian will invest $40 million to construct an innovative facility and create dozens of new jobs in the community

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Meridian Biotech today announces a new partnership with Buffalo Trace Distillery that aims to improve global food system security by converting the Distillery’s byproduct into multifunctional alternative proteins. Meridian will invest $40 million to construct the state-of-the-art conversion facility in Franklin County, creating up to 35 high-tech, high-paying local jobs and positioning the Commonwealth at the forefront of sustainable food innovation.

The new Meridian facility will utilize novel technology that converts Buffalo Trace stillage, a natural byproduct of the distilling process, into multifunctional alternative proteins. In its new form, the stillage, which will be piped directly from the Distillery to Meridian’s Frankfort facility, can be used in a variety of industries, including aquaculture (fish farming), pet foods, and the production of organic fertilizer.

“By reimagining distillery stillage as a resource rather than a byproduct, we’re pioneering new pathways in biotechnology that have the potential to transform the spirits industry,” said Brandon Corace, President of Meridian Biotech. “Like Buffalo Trace, we are committed to making a long-term, positive economic impact on the community. We believe our technology will play a pivotal role in enhancing Buffalo Trace’s commitment to innovation, as well as setting a new standard for the spirits industry. We could not be more pleased with the close working relationship with Buffalo Trace, in addition to welcoming support from local and state officials.”

Meridian was one of five companies selected across the United States to present its innovative technology at the Distillers Grains Reverse Pitch Competition in October 2021. The event, sponsored by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet and the Cabinet for Economic Development, challenged innovators to create new ideas that tackle the growing need to address the bourbon industry’s spent-grain byproduct, while also prioritizing sustainability, environmental impact and economic value.

Governor Andy Beshear said, “We are proud to welcome Meridian to Frankfort. This investment not only brings high-quality jobs and strengthens our economic future, but it also opens exciting new pathways for sustainability within Kentucky’s iconic bourbon industry. It’s partnerships like these that prove we can honor tradition while embracing transformation and Kentucky can be a leading force in the biotech industry.”

“As Master Distiller, I have studied the distilling process and always respected the full journey from grain to glass. Working with Meridian allows us to take our processes even further by transforming stillage into something with extended value and purpose,” said Harlen Wheatley, Master Distiller at Buffalo Trace Distillery. “This partnership is a natural extension of our craft, and we are thrilled by what’s possible with Meridian’s technology.”

Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson offered, “We’re thrilled to welcome Meridian Biotech to Frankfort, the result of a strategic effort to attract investment in the growing biotech sector and another sign of our city’s economic momentum. Their groundbreaking approach to repurposing distillery byproducts complements Frankfort’s commitment to innovation, our deep bourbon heritage, and Buffalo Trace Distillery’s dedication to excellence. Having spent time with Meridian’s leadership, I’m confident their presence will significantly boost our community and demonstrate to other innovative companies that Frankfort is the right place for business. We appreciate the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s efforts in supporting this venture and look forward to Meridian’s continued growth and success.”

Franklin County Judge Michael Mueller remarked, “We thank Meridian Biotech for their catalytic investment in Franklin County. Their commitment to sustainable and transformative technologies are a great match with our aspirations. Buffalo Trace Distillery continues to invest in being a model environmental steward and corporate citizen. These two companies together demonstrate how bright the future is. We also want to thank Team Kentucky for their assistance helping Meridian Biotech find a home in Franklin County.”

Meridian is the first biotech company to locate in Franklin County. Construction is expected to begin on the new facility later this year.

LAPHROAIG RELEASES NEW ADDITION TO THE EXPERIMENTAL ‘ELEMENTS’ SERIES INSPIRED BY DISTILLERY MISHAP – Islay Scotch Whisky News

LAPHROAIG RELEASES NEW ADDITION TO THE EXPERIMENTAL ‘ELEMENTS’ SERIES INSPIRED BY DISTILLERY MISHAP

Laphroaig Elements 3.0 explores the surprising impact of kiln fire on whisky flavor, pushing the boundaries of Laphroaig’s unmistakable character

New York, September 2025: Laphroaig unveils the third release in its pioneering Elements Series, a collection of bold whiskies that experiment with aspects of our production techniques. Now available in the U.S., Elements 3.0 is a single malt that explores the unexpected flavor impact of an extraordinary event at Laphroaig distillery. Following a kiln fire that burned longer and at significantly higher temperatures than usual, the resulting spirit led to a rich and distinctive whisky, with notes of chocolate and burnt caramel.

Famed for its innovative approach to whisky making, the Elements Series examines how small changes in production can bring new depth to the final product. The third release in the Series continues this tradition, following the success of Elements 1.0 in 2023 and the multi-award-winning Elements 2.0 in 2024, which experimented with changes in wort, mash size and malt makeup, and extended fermentation respectively.

George Campbell, Laphroaig Distillery Manager, commented, “Our Elements Series focusses on pushing the boundaries of traditional whisky making while retaining the distinctive character that defines Laphroaig. The period of unexpectedly hot kiln smoking presented a unique opportunity to explore how such an event could influence the flavour of Islay’s iconic dram. Elements 3.0 adds an exciting new twist to our multi-award-winning range, and I’m eager to hear what our Friends think of this latest addition.”

Sarah Dowling, Lead Whisky Maker, Laphroaig, added, “Through the Elements Series we have been able to experiment and gain a deeper insight into the many variables that contribute to Laphroaig’s rich and characterful profile. Our third release is a fascinating example of how innovation in the distillery can lead to delightful discoveries, enhancing our understanding of the origin of specific flavour compounds. Elements 3.0 not only offers a new way to experience the bold and distinct taste of Laphroaig but also explores aspects that impact the smoky flavour, making it a must-try for whisky explorers and enthusiasts.”

Each release in the Elements Series is designed to highlight the specific experiments behind its creation, with packaging that alludes to the experiments and the people involved, providing a unique look into the magic of the whisky-making process.

SRP: $165; Bottled at:

Aroma: Charcoal, chocolate and spice. Deep smoldering charred peat notes layered with a wash of maritime brine. Sweet and citrusy; vanilla, lemon zest and butterscotch. A hint of cinnamon spice, plums and dates draws you in and invites you to take a sip

As the rich phenolic characters subside, a tangy fruitiness comes to the fore with the introduction of blackberry, plum, and gooseberry notes with indulgent characters of a crème brûlée

Finish: Long lasting and drying, with elongated notes of iodine, leather and sooty chimney smoke

Heaven Hill Grain to Glass® Announces 2025 Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey – American Whiskey News

Heaven Hill Grain to Glass® Announces 2025 Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey

Crafted from seed to sip with locally grown grain, this limited-edition release reflects the full journey of whiskey-making at Heaven Hill Distillery®

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (September, 2025) – Heaven Hill is proud to unveil the 2025 edition of its Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey, a limited-edition release that highlights the artistry and transparency of America’s largest family-owned and operated distillery. Crafted entirely from seed to bottle in Nelson County, Kentucky, this small-batch expression honors Heaven Hill’s enduring commitment to quality, innovation, and authenticity.

The 2025 edition features a mashbill with a higher secondary grain content than Heaven Hill’s traditional Wheated Bourbon mashbill: 35% wheat, 52% corn, and 13% malted barley. The selected corn varietal—Beck’s 6225, along with the mashbill’s wheat component are grown by family-owned Peterson Farms on one of two sites in Nelson County, reflects the distillery’s dedication to sourcing local, carefully chosen grain. Aged over six years at Heaven Hill’s Cox’s Creek rickhouse site, the whiskey is non-chill filtered and bottled at barrel proof, 106.6 proof (53.3% ABV).

The result is a beautifully balanced bourbon with a warm, rounded profile. Its burnished copper hue invites the senses, followed by aromas of caramelized sugar, light vanilla, and sweet oak. On the palate, vanilla and caramel interlace with subtle floral notes of lavender and rose petals, creating a soft and creamy mouthfeel. The finish lingers with toasted nuts, leather, and coffee tones, making this release a remarkable example of wheated bourbon craftsmanship.

“With this edition of Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon, we celebrate not only the time-honored tradition of wheated bourbon but also the transparency that defines this series,” said Conor O’Driscoll, Master Distiller at Heaven Hill Distillery. “From selecting the Beck’s 6225 corn seed varietal to bottling at barrel proof, every choice reflects our mission to share the full story of how great whiskey is made. This bourbon offers both whiskey enthusiasts and collectors an authentic connection to our grain-to-glass philosophy.”

The label design continues the series’ commitment to storytelling, featuring detailed illustrations of Bernheim Distillery and artwork celebrating the farming traditions that sustain Kentucky whiskey-making. Each bottle highlights the unique corn varietal, mashbill, distillation, and release year, reinforcing Heaven Hill’s dedication to transparency.

The 700ml bottles will be available across the U.S. at a suggested retail price of $99.99. This release also proudly supports Farm Rescue, honoring 20 years of aiding farm families in crisis.

The Heaven Hill Grain to Glass series exemplifies the Shapira family’s legacy of quality and innovation, offering whiskey lovers a deeper appreciation of the people, ingredients, and processes behind their favorite spirits. The line has already earned prestigious recognition, including the 2024 Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon being named a Best of Class finalist from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition along with a Double Gold designation from this year’s Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards.

Heaven Hill Distillery Unveils Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity in Celebration of the Grand Opening of Heaven Hill Springs Distillery

Heaven Hill Distillery Unveils Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity in Celebration of the Grand Opening of Heaven Hill Springs Distillery

Bottling contains the last remaining barrel of Bourbon produced at the original Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (September, 2025) – Heaven Hill Distillery proudly announces the release of Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity, a limited-edition Bourbon created to commemorate the grand opening of the new Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. This once-in-a-generation release embodies the past, present, and future of America’s largest independent, family-owned and led distilled spirits producer.

A Tribute to Legacy and Renewal

At the heart of Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity lies the last remaining barrel that was distilled at the historic Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in 1991 by the legendary Parker Beam and aged for 34 years. This singular whiskey barrel is mingled with 14-year-old, 8-year-old, and 6-year-old Bourbon crafted at Bernheim Distillery by former Master Distillers Parker Beam and Denny Potter, as well as current Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll—uniting generations of craftsmanship in one extraordinary bottle.

Born from just 27 barrels, the release marks a full-circle moment as Heaven Hill returns to Bardstown, the Bourbon Capital of the World, with its new state-of-the-art Heaven Hill Springs Distillery. Only approximately 4,000 bottles will be available, each bottled at 107 proof to commemorate the original barrel entry proof used at Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery and priced at $225. The Bourbon is crafted from Heaven Hill’s traditional mashbill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye.

Tasting Experience

In the glass, this remarkable Bourbon reveals a deep copper hue and an expressive nose of sweetness, oak, and warm spice. The palate is rich and layered, offering notes of butterscotch, chocolate, and caramel, mingled with pecans and toasted almonds. A long, elegant finish lingers with nuanced aged oak and warm spice, leaving a lasting impression of depth and refinement.

A Once-in-a-Generation Bourbon

Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity stands as a symbol of both heritage and progress—honoring the distillers who shaped the company while marking a bold new chapter for Bourbon in Bardstown. Crafted from the last remaining barrel of Bourbon that was produced at the original distillery and joined by select Bourbons spanning more than three decades, this release captures a unique and pivotal moment in Heaven Hill’s story.

“This release represents both a tribute to our past and a toast to our future,” said Conor O’Driscoll, Heaven Hill Master Distiller. “By uniting the last available barrel from the Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery with carefully chosen selections produced at Bernheim Distillery, we are weaving together generations of dedication, artistry, and vision. It is a rare opportunity to share a Bourbon that tells the story of where we’ve been, while also celebrating where we are going. Heaven Hill Master Distillers Unity is not just a bottle—it is a living legacy, a bridge between our past and present created to mark one of the most important milestones in Heaven Hill’s journey and in the broader Bourbon industry.”

Glenmorangie bottles the spice market’s mosaic of flavours in latest limited-edition whisky – Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices – Scotch Whisky News

Glenmorangie bottles the spice market’s mosaic of flavours in latest limited-edition whisky

— Finished for the first time in four different cask types, Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is the sixth release in the imaginative series —

An aromatic whirl of spice and sweetness, Glenmorangie’s latest limited edition captures the mosaic of flavours and colours found at a vibrant spice market. Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is the sixth release in the Highland Distillery’s award-winning ‘A Tale Of…’ series, showcasing its whisky creators’ relentless imagination. Inspired by the sensory delights of these bustling marketplaces, this whisky is made from a marriage of Glenmorangie finished in four different cask types for the first time, including an experimental Glenmorangie aged in Moroccan red wine casks. Fragrant with notes of ginger, saffron, nutmeg and sugared almonds, A Tale of Spices brings distinctive layers of complexity to Glenmorangie’s elegant style.

For more than 180 years, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators have been endlessly imaginative in their quest to create pioneering single malts – as elegant as they are inviting. Led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, they are constantly challenging themselves to take whatever captures their imaginations and turn it into whisky. Their A Tale Of… series is the trailblazing result. Driven by curiosity and a passion for creating new flavours, the series’ whiskies can be inspired by a memory or experience – from the delights of an ice-cream parlour, to the cosy feeling of being warm as snow falls outside, and more.

Travelling the world in search of extraordinary casks to bring new flavours to Glenmorangie, Dr Bill has always been drawn to spice markets, with their fragrant aromas and rainbow hues. Envisioning a whisky infused with such variety, he and Master Blender Gillian Macdonald experimented by finishing bourbon-aged Glenmorangie in four different types of cask for the first time. Never used before at Glenmorangie, Moroccan red wine casks crafted from French oak give this creation mouth-watering layers of spice. New charred oak casks add another spicy dimension. Shaved, toasted red wine casks offer nuanced, fruity notes, while Pedro Ximénez sherry casks bring rich, sweet depths.

From this unusual cask combination comes a uniquely complex Glenmorangie – perfumed, sweet, and spicy. A Tale of Spices brims with notes of cumin, saffron, nutmeg, ginger and chilli. Floral hints of rose and jasmine are lifted by sugar-coated almonds and a distinct eucalyptus note. Ideal for gifting, the whisky is housed in a presentation box featuring a mosaic of vibrant, warm hues. In this way it evokes the vividly coloured, conical mounds of spices found in the most exquisite spice markets.

Dr Bill said: “I have always loved the variety of colours and aromas I’ve found in spice markets around the globe. Some years ago, Master Blender Gillian Macdonald and I experimented with Moroccan red wine casks for the first time and became captivated by the fragrant, spiced notes that they imparted to our whisky.  From there, we created an unusual cask recipe of new charred oak, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and shaved, toasted red wine casks to create a mosaic of flavours. Each sip of this limited edition is like immersing yourself in the sensory delights of a spice market – with new flavours and aromas at every turn. There are complex, earthy notes of ginger, nutmeg and cumin, with sweet floral hints and sugared almonds floating over the top. A sensory delight for single malt lovers to explore and enjoy.”

Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices has already been recognised with a Gold award at the International Spirits Competition 2025.

Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices will be available from 2nd September to purchase online at glenmorangie.com, at the Distillery Visitor Centre in Tain and in many e-retailers and specialist whisky shops, RRP: £76.

The limited edition has also inspired a menu of aromatic cocktails celebrating spice markets’ scents and colours. They can be found at glenmorangie.com.

About Glenmorangie:

Glenmorangie’s whisky makers use endless imagination and five key ingredients – wood, water, barley, yeast and time – to dream up single malt whiskies as elegant as they are inviting. They’ve been honing their craft for 180 years. They create a delicate and fruity spirit in stills as tall as a giraffe to allow for more taste and aroma. Led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden, this pioneering team are on a mission to bring new flavours and possibilities to the world of single malt.

In 2025, Glenmorangie unveiled a new brand campaign, ‘Once Upon a Time in Scotland’, fronted by Hollywood icon Harrison Ford. Taking the form of 12 episodes, the series explores Glenmorangie’s authentic truths, from its stunning Highland surroundings to the real people who create its complex and elegant whiskies.

About Glenmorangie’s whisky creators:

Glenmorangie’s Whisky Creation Team’s favourite phrase is “What if?”. And they are constantly challenging themselves to take whatever captures their imaginations and turn it into whisky – be that the elegant pleasures of the ice-cream parlour (Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream), the beguiling flavours of freshly brewed coffee (Glenmorangie Signet) and more.

At the helm of the team is Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, Director of Whisky Creation. With a PhD in biochemistry and decades of experience, Dr Bill has all the skills needed to bring these ideas to life. Already, he has earned the admiration of his peers many times over. For instance, he has taken his place in the Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame. He has won the International Whisky Competition’s award for Master Distiller of the Year more times than anyone else. And he has been named Master Blender/Distiller of the Year by the International Spirits Challenge twice.

Working hand-in-hand with Dr Bill is Gillian Macdonald, The Glenmorangie Company’s Master Blender. Gillian combines art and science in her role, with her main responsibilities including the daily sensory analysis of the new-make spirit, core range recipes and the co-ordination of the Company’s sensory panel. Both Bill and Gillian manage the New Product Development pipeline for Glenmorangie which involves nosing hundreds of casks a year for final recipe selection.

About the making of Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices:

Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is the Distillery’s first whisky created from four different cask finishes. Inspired to bring complex spice and sweetness to a single malt, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators first aged whisky in bourbon casks. Then they finished select parcels in four separate types of casks. Together, their skilful combination of cask finishes creates a whisky of distinctive complexity, reminiscent of the aromatic delights of spice markets. They include:

  • Moroccan red wine casks: rarely used in the world of whisky. It is the first time Glenmorangie has been finished in the casks’ medium-toasted French oak. Since the wood was high in tannins, it brings a unique spice to Glenmorangie’s elegant spirit;
  • Shaved, toasted red wine casks: (also known as dechar/rechar casks). Occasionally used to bring their nuanced sweetness to a whisky. The process involves removing the wood from the surface of a wine barrel, and then toasting it again. This creates a rare harmony between the wine notes and oak flavours which the wood gives the whisky. They were used in the creation of Glenmorangie’s innovative Private Edition release Glenmorangie Milsean;
  • New charred oak casks: These bring additional spice to whisky – memorably used by Glenmorangie in its Travel Retail Exclusive Glenmorangie Elementa and, from the core range, Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve;
  • Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. These casks are known for their rich, sweet flavours. They add a fruity sweetness to the whisky.

About Glenmorangie’s A Tale Of… series:

This award-winning series of experimental limited editions showcases the relentless imagination of Glenmorangie’s talented whisky creators. Crafted to bring joy to whisky lovers old and new, its single malts have inspired playful collaborations with fellow creatives, as well as a host of delicious cocktails.

  • The series began with Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake, released in 2020. Capturing the magic of a cake moment, this sweet, multi-layered whisky finished in Tokaji dessert wine casks, is lusciously reminiscent of cake. Renowned pastry chef Dominique Ansel created a series of cocktail and cake pairings, known as CakeTails, to accompany the whisky.
  • Second in the series, Glenmorangie A Tale of Winter encapsulates the magical feeling of sitting in front of the fireplace as snow blankets the world outside. Finished in Marsala wine casks, it swirls with a flurry of wintry aromas and flavours. The whisky’s knitted-style packaging inspired designer Donna Wilson to create knitted clothing and accessories.
  • Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is the series’ third whisky. Inspired by Dr Bill’s walks in the woods near his home, it is Glenmorangie’s first single malt crafted from barley kilned with woodland botanicals. With flavours as lush and leafy as a forest, the whisky’s artwork featured a fantastical, technicolour forest illustration created by Thai illustrator Pomme Chan.
  • The series’ fourth whisky is Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo. Marrying Glenmorangie’s first whisky aged in sought-after Japanese Mizunara oak casks with bourbon and sherry casks, it is as full of contradictions as Tokyo – a favourite city of Dr Bill. Inspired by the whisky, artist Yamaguchi Akira created a stunning cityscape of Tokyo, which is depicted on the whisky’s packaging. It won a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
  • Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream is the fifth whisky in the series. To evoke the flavours of an ice-cream parlour in a whisky, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators married whisky aged in bourbon casks with a parcel of whisky finished in high-vanillin casks. These virgin oak casks were toasted especially to create higher concentrations of vanillin – an aromatic compound which brings vanilla flavours to whisky.

DRAM5 UNVEILS A DISRUPTIVE, DESIGN-LED BLIND BOX WHISKY TASTING EXPERIENCE FOR THE MODERN DRINKER – Scotch Whisky News

DRAM5 UNVEILS A DISRUPTIVE, DESIGN-LED BLIND BOX WHISKY TASTING EXPERIENCE FOR THE MODERN DRINKER

London, September 2025: DRAM5 is a design-led whisky discovery box, launching to market in September 2025, which reimagines the way that whisky is experienced and appreciated. Created for both the curious and the connoisseur, DRAM5 invites whisky lovers into a bold new world of flavour exploration. Its mystery boxes contain five surprise single-cask, barrel strength Scotch whiskies, inviting the drinker to explore Single Malt Scotch whisky without preconception, offering an innovative tasting experience.

By stripping back branding bias, DRAM5 challenges traditional whisky tasting and redefines it as something immersive, interactive, and unapologetically modern. The contemporary concept champions a tech-savvy, digitally sophisticated approach to flavour, with a design sensibility that provides an elevated boutique experience, a fresh take on traditional whisky labels.

Sourced from both celebrated and boutique distilleries across Scotland, the whiskies in each DRAM5 box are drawn from individually selected casks, each chosen for its character, provenance, and uniqueness. The first release is strictly limited to 6,000 boxes, every single cask whisky featured in the collection is exclusive to DRAM5 and cannot be purchased elsewhere.

Each of the DRAM5 blind boxes will include a surprise combination of premium, rare and ultra rare expressions. 60% (3,600 boxes) will only include premium drams from distilleries in Scotland such as Benriach, Blair Athol, Craigellachie, Glenrothes, Glenturret and Laphroaig amongst others. 35% (2,100 boxes) will also include a rare single cask whisky within the selection from distilleries such as Ben Nevis and Glen Grant, with whiskies aged for 27 years or longer.

For those fortunate enough to receive one of the 5% (300 boxes) including ultra rare drams within the selection received, they could find whiskies such as an Ardbeg 34yo, a Littlemill 36yo or a Macallan 34yo. This potential mix of ultra rare, rare and premium whiskies in every DRAM5 blind box will ensure that each delivers a unique, exciting and unpredictable tasting experience.

The concept centres around a disruptive approach to blind tasting for a new generation of drinkers; from unexpected flavour combinations to rare regional expressions, each dram is approached without expectation, encouraging exploration of flavour and aroma on its own terms. The DRAM5 mystery boxes reimagine whisky discovery; rather than acquiring a single bottle with a fixed identity, customers engage with five different drams. For some, that may mean encountering a distillery previously unknown to them. For others, it may be an unexpected favourite that challenges their usual preferences, either way, step into a curated world of flavour, exploration and storytelling.

To accompany the release, DRAM5 has introduced a digital collectors programme for the tech-forward modern collectors. The beautifully crafted “Capture the Moment, Collect the Story” is a dynamic collector’s programme, accessible via the DRAM5 app, where users will be able to access information on the tasting profile of each specific liquid and the distillery it originates from. Users will also be able to upload a photo of each bottle they have unlocked and build their own digital archive, record tasting notes, track where and when they enjoyed it, and even note the friends who shared the moment. Over time, the vault becomes more than a list but a curated personal flavour vault powered by tech and fuelled by discovery.

DRAM5’s visual identity and packaging has already garnered reputable design accolades, including recognition from the Muse Design Awards and a Gold Award the iF Design Award 2025. The packaging stands as a bold expression of contemporary design, fusing modern minimalism with tactile luxury. It brings a refreshing playfulness to the traditional world of Scotch whisky, seamlessly blending meticulous craftsmanship with a reverence for the centuries-old art of whisky distilling. Every detail of the boxes, from the sleek exterior to the carefully curated interior, reflects a celebration of both innovation and heritage. Each box is a bold statement piece finding itself equally as at home on a drinks cabinet as it is a gift to impress even the most discerning drinkers. DRAM5 is designed to spark conversation at a dinner party, at a tasting night or simply to savour each dram at home. However used, DRAM5 transforms tasting into a moment of delight, surprise, and genuine connection.

This release marks a new approach to Scotch whisky appreciation where rarity, exploration, and sensory discovery come together in a format designed to challenge and delight both experienced collectors and curious newcomers alike.

Jura adds two more years! – Island Scotch Whisky News

Jura adds two more years!

Single Malt Scotch Whisky establishes Jura 12 Year Old as its entry level whisky, replacing Jura 10 Year Old; and reveals new look that makes buying whisky more accessible

As part of its mission to make whisky drinking more accessible and enjoyable to a wider audience, Jura, the Single Malt Scotch Whisky made on the Isle of Jura by a Scottish island community, has announced that Jura 12 Year Old will become the new entry level whisky to the brand’s aged range, replacing Jura 10 Year Old.

With two additional years of maturation, Jura 12 Year Old is bursting with delicious flavours of peach, citrus and walnut and perfectly encapsulates Jura’s fruity and balanced house style.

The move comes in response to consumer taste tests which showed that substantially more people, including younger and more frequent drinkers love the flavours of Jura 12 Year Old even more than Jura 10.

At the same time Jura has also revealed a new, easy-to-understand pack for its range of single malts, featuring a ‘first of its kind’ taste scale designed to help people easily identify ‘at a glance’ the three key flavours in each of its whiskies.

Research by the brand showed:

  • around two thirds of people looking to pick up a bottle of whisky leave empty-handed because choosing a whisky is too confusing.
  • one of the most important things people want is to have confidence and reassurance about how the whisky will taste.
  • the overuse of technical terms on pack such as maturation and cask journey, does not always explain how they relate to taste, which is at the heart of a consumer purchase.

Jura’s new on pack taste scale aims to reduce this confusion by making it easy to identify ‘at a glance’ the three most prominent fruity and balanced flavours in each bottle of Jura. The scale rates each of the three flavours on strength from zero to six.  For example: Jura 12 Year Old has flavours of Peach rated at 4, Citrus at 3, and Walnut at 3.

Technical information about the whisky has been kept to a minimum on pack, using language that everyone can understand, and leading with flavour. However for those interested in further details on cask journey and maturation, an on pack QR code will take people to the Jura website for more information.

Claire Blackadder, Head of Brand for Jura, explained: “Making whisky that people love and can enjoy is at the heart of what we do. Consumers tell us they love Jura 12 even more than Jura 10, and we are thrilled that our teams have worked hard to make that happen and we can now bring Jura 12 to more people in more places. Those additional two years in cask enhance Jura 12’s depth and character, making it more appealing to new customers and gifters alike.

“The new look pack has been designed to help make the process of choosing a whisky easier and more accessible for customers. People tell us that buying a whisky can be baffling, and with the overuse of technical terms customers often leave a store empty handed. Not everyone is a whisky expert, and the most important thing people want to know is what the whisky will taste like. With our new pack redesign and taste scale, customers will easily be able to decide whether Jura would suit the occasion, and have the confidence that they are buying a whisky packed with Jura’s signature fruity and balanced flavours that appeal to many.”

Each bottle of Jura will also now display a larger age statement, alongside an enhanced bottle silhouette, to make it easy for those who love Jura to identify their favourite whisky. The makeover also heroes Scotland and the Scottish island community who produce Jura whisky from the brand’s beachside distillery.

The brand is also introducing a new travel retail-exclusive range called the Islanders Series. Comprising four expressions: White Oak Cask, 13 Year Old, 16 Year Old and 19 Year Old, the new travel retail range is inspired by the values of Jura’s islanders and features the same design principles as the core domestic range.

Jura 12 Year Old will replace the 10 Year Old on shelves in the UK in October 2025, before being rolled out around the world. The new look Jura pack will be hitting shelves in the UK in September before rolling out globally. The travel-retail exclusive Islanders Series is expected on-shelf in select outlets from October.
