Wyoming Whiskey releases Single Barrel Bourbon – American Whiskey News

Wyoming Whiskey releases Single Barrel Bourbon

KIRBY, WY (October 20, 2021)Wyoming Whiskey’s Single Barrel Bourbon is available once again. This highly anticipated and exclusive release is the first batch since it last sold out in November 2020. Single Barrel represents the top 1% of bourbon barrels sampled each year by Wyoming Whiskey.

Single Barrel is a rich, medium to full-bodied spirit defined by its western terroir. As a wheated bourbon, it delivers a flavor profile that is soft, yet complex, which sets it apart from more common rye-flavored single barrel products. The superb flavor profile, and limited availability, create a truly rare experience.

“Once in a hundred barrels, or so, something very special presents itself,” said David DeFazio, Co-Founder of Wyoming Whiskey. “These barrels are selected for their exceptional aromatic profiles, complex flavor, maturity, and overall balance.”

Crafted from grains grown right in the Bighorn Basin, Single Barrel’s terroir reflects what the West is made of: intense elements, severe temperatures, and the rich history of Western pioneers. Each barrel of Single Barrel experiences extreme temperature variations common in the high basin between the Absaroka and Bighorn Mountains as it matures. Temperatures reach 135° at the height of the warehouse during the summer and fall precipitously to 5° degrees in the depths of Winter. In the summertime, warehouse temperatures can swing 20 – 30 degrees and facilitate greater whiskey and wood interaction.

Each hand-selected barrel is bottled at 96 proof to maintain the character which defines it. Aged for a minimum of five years in char #4 oak barrels, no two barrels are alike in flavor. Chosen from six rickhouses for its singular character and taste, each barrel yields approximately 220 bottles that capture this unique bourbon and moment in time, both of which will never happen again. Cheers to those who are lucky enough to cross its path.

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: Deep copper to mahogany

  • Nose: Bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and browned butter range to dried dates with orange citrus blossom

  • Palate: Cinnamon, dark chocolate, dried date, fig, and raisin range to a buttered pastry and orange citrus

  • Finish: Long, smooth and eloquent finish with flavor notes including dark dried fruits and candied orange peel

Wyoming Whiskey Single Barrel specifications: 48% ABV, MSRP $99, aged for a minimum of 5 years

Single Barrel may be found at local retailers in twelve U.S. markets, including: Wyoming, Illinois, California, Colorado, New York, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico, Maine, Idaho, Florida and South Carolina. It can also be purchased nationally through WyomingWhiskey.com or other online retailers, including Reserve Bar, Flaviar and Caskers. TROPHY WINNING ADDITION TO TOMATIN’S WAREHOUSE 6 COLLECTION – Scotch Whisky News

TROPHY WINNING ADDITION TO TOMATIN’S WAREHOUSE 6 COLLECTION

Tomatin, the award-winning Highland distillery has today announced the release of its fifth expression of the critically acclaimed Warehouse 6 Collection; 1978.

Distilled on 21st September 1978, this remarkable expression has been gently maturing for the past 42 years in Tomatin’s Warehouse 6, a traditional dunnage warehouse.  Nestled in a quiet corner of the distillery, Warehouse 6 houses the distillery’s most treasured casks.

This exceptional single malt whisky has been awarded Gold Outstanding at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit competition scoring an astonishing 98 points and proceeded to win the Trophy in the Single Malt Scotch Whisky 26 Years and Over category.

The 1978 edition was one of 350 whiskies judged by the expert panel. Richard Paterson, Chair Judge and member of the Spirits Judging Committee, commented: “A sublime, smooth, aromatic, rich single malt whisky, casked to perfection. Notes of blackcurrant, berry fruits and smoke on the palate. Beautifully balanced between the oak spice and sweetness. A sweet, dry, honeysuckle finish. Exceptional.”

Cask numbers 49541 and 49542 have been lying gracefully since being filled, gently and slowly maturing the spirit within. After thirty years, the spirit moved to the finest First Fill Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks and laid down for a further decade, then married together to produce this exceptional whisky.

Graham Eunson, Master Distiller at Tomatin, said: “With over forty two years’ patience comes reward. I am extremely proud of this luxurious single malt. Cask 49541 and 49542 marry together in perfect harmony to produce aromas of stewed fruits, dark maple syrup and bursts of orange peel and bergamot, meeting soft flavours of dark chocolate, warming spices and salted caramel before a long, silky finish. The 1978 is a truly remarkable expression.”

As with every Warehouse 6 release, each expression pays tribute to the Tomatin craftsmen that have been custodians of exceptional Scotch for generations. The 1978 is no different, and as with the previous luxury expressions in the series, (the 1971, 1972, 1975 & 1977), each of the 350 units is decanted into an exquisite hand blown Glencairn Crystal decanter with unique copper decoration. This luxury bottle is presented with two glasses, a solid copper stopper, along with a numbered certificate detailing the remarkable journey of the whisky.

The 1978 Warehouse 6 Collection is expected to retail for £3,000 in the UK for a 70cl bottle, and is available to purchase online here and from specialist retailers worldwide.

Notes

Tomatin Distillery has been producing and blending malt Scotch whisky since 1897. Over the last 50 years, the distillery has borne witness to vast change. At its peak in the 1970s, Tomatin was the largest distillery in the world operating 23 stills and producing 12 million litres of alcohol every year. Over the last decade, significant time has been invested in rediscovering the distillery, people and values, and in refining the business model to move away from the formerly lucrative bulk commodity market to now focus on Tomatin’s core range of single malts. The 1978 release is a part of Warehouse 6’s limited edition range, which includes the 1971. 1972, 1975 and the 1977.

Tomatin is located in the Scottish Highlands (near Inverness) and is famous for its portfolio of soft and mellow whiskies, including a core range, a limited-edition range and a premium archive range (prices range from £35 – £10,000).

New Master Blender for Johnnie Walker as industry legend retires

Emma Walker succeeds Jim Beveridge OBE becoming the first female Master Blender in the 200-year Johnnie Walker story

Today Johnnie Walker, the world’s best-selling Scotch Whisky1, announces that Dr Emma Walker will take over the reins from Dr Jim Beveridge OBE, who retires at the end of the year after more than 40 years at Diageo, 20 of which as Master Blender.

Emma will be one of a small, select group of people, and the first female, to take on the coveted role of Master Blender in more than two centuries of the business’s existence, the first being founder John Walker.

Aptly named, although no relation to the Walker family, Emma joined Diageo 13 years ago and has gained extensive knowledge and experience of Scotch production and innovation to become a highly respected blender who has worked extensively on Johnnie Walker for the last six years. Her innovations include the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series and Jane Walker by Johnnie Walker.

During her career, Emma has worked in different areas of whisky production; gaining experience and understanding of how flavour develops in fermentation, distillation, and maturation, striving to ensure quality at every stage of the process. She has spent several years working with Jim to develop an encyclopaedic understanding and knowledge of whisky.

“I am honoured to take on the title of Master Blender of Johnnie Walker, and at an exciting time for the brand as we embark on the next step of our journey looking ahead to the next 200 years. I love experimenting and innovating with flavour and we’ll be working hard to not only continue to deliver the unrivalled quality that we are renowned for but also introducing blends to appeal to a new generation of Scotch Whisky fans. I have learnt so much over my career working with Jim – whose knowledge and generosity of spirit is unsurpassed in the world of whisky.”

Dr Emma WalkerNew Johnnie Walker Master Blender

The announcement comes as Jim Beveridge retires after a four-decade career in whisky during which time he has been responsible for some of the world’s most popular and acclaimed Scotch whisky blends including Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

His commitment to developing the ultimate whisky flavours began when he started his career with Johnnie Walker as an analytical chemist 42 years ago. He has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly respected figures in the industry, renowned for his skill and dedication to quality. In 2019, he was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to the Scotch Whisky industry.

“It is with pleasure and confidence that I pass on this privilege to Emma. I know she will do a wonderful job as she possesses the knowledge, expertise, and dedication to make an amazing Master Blender. On a personal level I am delighted for her, and I know that her wonderfully infectious personality, that made working with her so enjoyable, will bring something exciting and different to the team and, indeed, to the wider Scotch industry.”

INTRODUCING JAMESON BLACK BARREL PROOF – Irish Whiskey News

INTRODUCING JAMESON BLACK BARREL PROOF

50% ABV REVEALS ADDED DEPTH AND RICHNESS TO MULTI AWARD-WINNING[1] JAMESON BLACK BARREL

Hot on the heels of its recent ‘Best Irish Whiskey’ trophy at the 2021 International Spirits Challenge, Jameson is launching a 50% ABV, or 100-proof[2], limited edition of its triple-distilled Black Barrel whiskey – great to gift (and even better to keep) this Christmas.

Jameson Black Barrel Proof is made from pot still and grain whiskey matured in a combination of American oak, sherry casks and double charred ex-bourbon barrels to give an even deeper flavour experience. Uniquely, this expression will be bottled at 50% ABV and without chill filtration. The result is a rich, smooth expression that showcases the benefit that the tradition of barrel charring can add to the world’s favourite Irish whiskey[3].

“Jameson Black Barrel is a triple distilled blend of our small batch grain and traditional single pot still Irish whiskey and boasts a robust spiciness, with flavours of butterscotch and fudge. Paying tribute to the cooper’s skill, maturing a portion of our whiskey in double charred barrels brings out sweet and spicy characteristics in abundance as it penetrates deeper into the charred oak,” explains Irish Distillers’ Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman.

“Like every family, Jameson is made up of individual characters with their own distinct personalities. Bottling Jameson Black Barrel at a higher strength is a great way to accentuate the already beloved characteristics of this unique whiskey to create a totally new experience for whiskey enthusiasts.

“So, if a full strength whiskey that’s bursting with aromas of toffee and fudge, complemented by a spicy character and a rich vanilla finish, sounds like it’s for you – or maybe even for someone you know –

then you’ll find that Black Barrel Proof is a great addition to the Jameson family this Christmas. Slainte!”

Set to appeal to whiskey fans seeking to explore a more intense flavour experience this Christmas, the limited-edition release of Jameson Black Barrel Proof will be available online at JamesonWhiskey.com and via select outlets in Ireland and at Dublin Airport from early November at RRP of €60.

Best served in a cocktail or maybe over ice, but always with friends!

Tasting notes by Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman:

Nose: Butterscotch sweetness and creamy, toffee, fudge aroma.

Taste: Rich smooth taste with a deep intensity and dialled up spicy notes, complemented by vanilla sweetness.

Finish: Smooth and rich finish with a hint of vanilla lingering on the palate.

KENTUCKY DISTILLERS’ ASSOCIATION WELCOMES THREE BOYS FARM DISTILLERY AS CRAFT MEMBER – American Whiskey News

KENTUCKY DISTILLERS’ ASSOCIATION WELCOMES THREE BOYS FARM DISTILLERY AS CRAFT MEMBER

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association today announced that Three Boys Farm Distillery in Franklin County is the newest and 49th member of the nonprofit trade group that unites and leads Kentucky’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

Three Boys Farm Distillery was founded in 2012 on a scenic 127-acre farm in rural Franklin County. Located at 283 Crab Orchard Road, the facility hosts thousands of visitors each year to participate in the modest, authentic, family-owned craft distillery experience.

Entrepreneur and former architect Walter Zausch recently purchased the distillery and has been working aggressively to enhance the popular visitor center experience and event facilities, update production equipment and expand operational capacity.

The picturesque farm features the distillery, bottling line, gift shop and barrel storage nestled among fields of heirloom variety corn used in their Bourbons. Current products include Three Boys Bourbon, Three Boys Rye Whiskey, Whiskey Thief Crafted Bourbon, Whiskey Thief Rye Whiskey and Foggy Dog Flavored Whiskey.

“We couldn’t be more excited to join the KDA,” said Zausch, who is originally from Henderson, Ky.

“We offer a unique and hands-on experience for our visitors and guests. As we get ready to celebrate our 10th year as a craft distillery, our membership and partnership with the KDA will help us achieve our goal of offering one of the best small batch and single barrel experiences in Kentucky.”

KDA President Eric Gregory applauded Zausch for updating the distilling side of the business while keeping the intimate, home-spun visitor experience that has proven popular with guests. “Three Boys is not glitz and glamour, and that’s what appeals to visitors seeking the true craft experience,” he said.

“Walter is a whiskey aficionado who also brings decades of experience as an entrepreneur and leader in customer-experience in California’s tech industry. We look forward to his unique perspective and proudly welcome Three Boys Farm to our growing family of Kentucky’s finest distillers.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association today announced that Saddlestone Distillery in Woodford County is the newest and 46th member of the non-profit trade group that unites and leads Kentucky’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

Founded by Cynthia Bohn, Saddlestone Distillery is the latest venture for Equus Run Vineyards which opened in 1998 and is nestled on 38 acres amid picturesque horse farms, historic stone fences and the quaint charm of Midway, Kentucky’s first town built by a railroad.

The property at 1280 Moores Mill Road includes the winery and distillery, tasting room, offices, event barn/hall, vineyards and a beautiful amphitheater with live concerts. There are guided and self-guided tours and ample opportunities for picnics, fishing and relaxing.

Saddlestone Distillery will produce brandy and agave spirits. It received its Class B distiller’s license from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control in July.

“We look forward to opening our new distillery to the public in the very near future and joining the membership of many wonderful spirits brands,” Bohn said. “The camaraderie and support of the KDA is to be commended.”

KDA President Eric Gregory said, “Cynthia has done an exceptional job establishing Equus Run as a first-class winery and popular destination for visitors. Her distilling venture is an excellent addition to the KDA, and we look forward to working with the Saddlestone team to champion Kentucky spirits.”
